Why not a Ford Lightning EV to tow camper across this Beautiful Country? You would only have to pull over and unhook camper every 77 miles to recharge for an hour, who wouldn't want to deal with that? lol....We love your channel Robert, thank you for showing those unable to travel how Beautiful the USA really is.

Hi Robert congrats on your new Trail Boss. You definitely have earned it and hats off to you. I also have a 2022 refreshed Trail boss and I must tell you Chevy really knocked the exterior and interior designs out of the park. This is my first pickup truck and really overjoyed with it. I started Watching your channel a few years ago and you inspired me to join the RV adventure life. I ordered an Airstream 2021 August and had planned on towing it with an Audi until my wife convinced me otherwise. After much research I settled on the Chevy Trail boss with the 5.3L V8. I ordered my trail boss Last December and took delivery mid June and 3 months later got the Airstream. The interior with the digital gauge cluster as well as the infotainment systems are phenomenal. The center console's electronic shifter is also nice for me. GM has done a really nice job with the interior. I have driven my truck 5900 miles since taking delivery and have nothing but praise for GM. I get around 21 MPG on the highway and 13 when towing the 23 foot 6000 pound Airstream. The 10 speed automatic produces better milage when you drive between 60 and 70 mph. In my 40 years of purchasing American, Japanese and European vehicles this is my first GM and couldn't be happier. Your observations are spot on although I have not experienced any hiccups with either of the dashboard screens. I use Apple CarPlay and pandora and both are also great and have met my expectations. I really look forward to seeing your RV adventure videos with your new truck.

Being a Ford guy since the 70s, well, that was hard to watch. Just kidding. One thing I will disagree with is those blue LED headlights that have found their way on nearly every vehicle. Driving long hours at night those lights are very hard on your sleep patterns. I actually had to have mine removed. It's very similar to the blue screen issues when looking at a computer monitor and it is why MS has provided the night mode for many years. Also, I was tired of having every approaching car flash its high beams thinking mine were on high. On our hilly and curvy roads in north Georgia, the blue lights are simply dangerous in my opinion. I think it was a mistake when automakers decided to go with them. Perhaps you can at some point let us know if you experience similar issues. Other than that, it's a very nice truck. I hope you have many pleasant miles ahead.

Let’s face it, I’m a cheap bugger! My desire is to by a winter camping setup that can also be used the rest of the year and the Mini-Tiny with the heated tank set-up looked good to tow with my Canyon. As I got into the details more I found myself limited at the ski resorts to “self contained “vehicles”” (Vans and Slip-in Campers [pickup bed] that the Canyon can’t do). It is really coming down to where do I want to shower, in the camper or at the rear door and/or truck stops, I want a composted toilet either way since tanks are problematic and need care for winter use and I never liked the Idea of dragging around a cassette. However, along my decision journey, I considered the Sierra (GMC Version of your truck which I think is the AT4 for off road). The price tag on the 2022s was outrageous and the Chevys are comparable, I may keep my Canyon All Terrain for 10 years, or more, due to that, and find a good used cargo van and insulate, wire, panel and heat it with a gasoline or diesel heater. Also in order to get the leather seats and all terrain package I still had to forego the heated seats (I love my heated seats on cold winter days) due to the chip shortage, here in Tennessee, for the 2022 models. I hope the 2023s have them at those prices. Then those sub 20mpg’s for the V8 make using it for anything other than a tow vehicle iffy. I cringe at $40 gas fill ups from a half tank on my Canyon and I only see the price of fuel getting worse next summer and diesel is close to $5 a gallon now so all those mpg’s saved there are eaten by it’s cost. I no this because a woman I work with’s Dodge dually diesel is eating her alive but she needs it to tow her hood cleaning equipment, her other job.

Very nice truck, I have it’s cousin the GMC Sierra also a 5.3l. Check out the Pulsar LT. You can completely bypass auto start stop and cylinder deactivation amongst other things which will extend the engine’s life. Also you can add a open air filter intake and that will give you better MPG’s. Lastly I would invest in an oil catch can to help reduce carbon buildup. Non of these will void your warranty. Check it out.

Your gonna love the amount of room you have in this truck compared to your Colorado. I used to have a Toyota Tacoma and upgraded to my current Tundra crewmax cab and the difference is night and day. Goid luck with your new chevy. I never owned a chevy truck but i have been a passenger in them and i think they have the nicest interiors and the most comfortable seats of all the full sized pickups. One thing I would suggest is to get rid of those stock mirrors and get a good set of aftermarket tow mirrors. Thanks for showing us your new ride and good luck with it.

Congratulations on the new truck! I have the older 3.0 RST and love it. I will mention you didn't think you would use the 4 window down feature. I use it on the remote. Hold down the unlock button for a few seconds and all 4 go down. I have use that all the time during the summer, to vent the heat before I get in the truck. Still hot but not as bad.

Congratulations on your new truck! We used to tow our trailer with the 5.3L and the mileage ran between 8 and 10 mpg at 63 mph. If you slow down to 65 mph your mileage towing should be a little bit better. Everything has to do with HOW you drive it while towing. P.S.: You can disable/turn off the things that you don't want to have running. The owner's manual will tell you how.

Thanks for sharing. I am glad to hear that it is a step up from your Colorado and I am sure that your butt thanks you. I was a big fan of the digital dashes at first but they have become so common it has made interiors kind of generic. The reason they are common nowis because they are cheap. I agree with the shifter comment and also I include push button start with that. Change for change sake is not a step forward. If I could afford it I would have gone with the diesel option on the chev it is just such a nice engine for towing and hwy driving. The equal on the ford side would be the 7.2kw pro power onboard/hybrid. For RVer there is no quieter or more powerful generator. You will never have to worry about disturbing the neighbours or sweating/freezing in your trailer again. Just fill up your truck before you park and enjoy.

We have 3 Trail Boss Survey Crew trucks. The oldest is a 2019, 2020, and a 2022. The 2019 burns oil, the 2020 had a bent valve and the 2022 is problem free so far. No tailgate handle!! Transmission can shift hard when doing 3 point turns...clunk clunk! My seat has worn and ripped already on the 2019 with 36k. Looks nice though, just disappointed in many aspects when you drive them daily like I do and have been through multiple Gens. We have run Silverados for almost 30 years. The old ones had crappy interiors and cheap door and lift gate handles. The doors were easy to spring. . I dod not like them. Then 2014 came along with the new design and it was in Kelly green, beautiful looking truck that faired well mechanically. I bought and still own a 2015 LTZ Z71 now with 54k miles. I love this truck...BUT..... the oil pan leaked.... $1800 bucks because the front end needs to be removed. Next was an oil leak at the harmonic balancer seal...$450. No my AC finally went this week.... that could be on the cheap side, $150 recharge. I like that I have a key, and a real tailgate WITH A HANDLE. My interior is nicer than the new trucks as well.

Nice truck! Good choice for a towing rig. The tires alone are probably hitting the MPG a half to one mile per gallon since they are wide and have aggressive tread. And of course the taller stance isn't helping the MPG. My last two weeks at work I got to drive around a 2022 Silverado and Wow the headlights are that impressive! My 2018 F250 with 83k miles needs a new engine so I got the new truck. Nice vehicle Stay safe! Bill in Utah

i coulndt remember which truck you got, i knew if was the 1500, i am looking at this very truck, also there is a 1500 custom 4x4 that is less, seems like it has all or mostly same features, just doesnt have the hood scoop and off road package look. decisions decisions....glad i found this video.. i also looked at Tundra but dont like they only make V6 now even though its twin turbo. The tundra actually weighs more as well. Safe Travels

Robert, thanks for all the information. I am curious about your reasons for upgrading from the Colorado? More comfortable seat, better towing, or other? Thanks again for all the enjoyable content! Jim

I myself would have gone with the Duramax engine. Duramax is very quiet and high torque that really makes climbing hills easy. I think it would get a little better mileage. Anyways, great choice. Happy travels 🙂

I had a '20 LT Trail Boss and sold it after a year because the offer was too good to pass up (more than what I got it for new). I have videos on modifications I made to it on my channel. I loved it although you can't park it everywhere and it eats up more gas than the average vehicle.
