Travelling at horse pace - Living on the road with a gypsy wagon pulled by horses

Luis and the world

3 жыл бұрын

Mickaël and Florian sold their house and started living on the road with a gypsy wagon pulled by two Persian horses. It’s now 3 years they live nomadic.
I meet them in Brittany, north-west France, they stopped in an empty field (they are allowed to stop in common land to feed their animals) where we stayed for three days together.
They showed me how they get water, take care of the horses, have joyful dinner with friends (yes even living on the road this is possible!) and play board games at night.
If you find this way of living a little extreme please use it to better see how mainstream society dictate our ways of living: we live in cities of concrete, inside cubicles that mark the separation between the outside and the inside, where outside is wild, scary and unsafe, the inside is private, lonely and secure. We need to see more inspiring people as Mickaël and Florian to change this vision of standardised living.

Hi everyone, it's Luis, the filmmaker who made this story. 📽 I'm so happy I had the chance to meet this amazing couple, when I uploaded the video I hoped to get some views because this story deserve it. I wanted people to know living happily on the road in a sustainable way it was possibile, it just come down to your attitude and how you see life. So I'm thrilled by the 30.000 people who watched this and wanted to thank you all, especially those who are commenting. 🙏 Happy to see this is a dream of many. Stay free, stay wild 💚 Luis

France is a very special land for those that have the fortune of 'free spirit'. I have lived here for 29 years of my life (62 years) The first 10 in the Foreign Legion and after off grid with my animals. The couple traveling in this reportage have richess that money just cannot buy!!!

I've met several people, over the years, living this way. Always really wanted too also. Too dangerous on the roads here now. The people I knew who actually lived in wagons quit back in the '40's because cars were crashing into them frequently even then. I've taught my horses to drive & have been a slave to them for decades. Always love seeing people traveling with horses.

I would so LOVE to have a partner I could do this with, here in America!! My family use to trail ride all over the South in wagons. Until my Dad passed away. Then we kinda phased out of it, & can't seem to get back into it. Congratulations & best wishes to the two of you in your future travels.

Oh" how I wish I could speak french. I did travel throughout the nineties Me and my partner converted a motor coach. We travelled for 5 years in that ~ And then in an old gypsy caravan we worked with circuses in order to survive. I thoroughly enjoyed the circus work, but most of all living that sort of lifestyle. It suited me. Now I consider doing it again but this time horse drawn although I know nothing about keeping horses. ,,, I am assured it is quite easy to pick up keeping horses that is. The only thing is that in England it is virtually illegal to live that lifestyle now. So I would have to move to france or another european country. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your video.

Totally! After spending some time with Mickaël and Florian I (Luis, the filmmaker) felt this relief from following a structure we are constantly impose to in our everyday life. Without even realising it city life is so stressful. It takes out all your energy and creative vibes. Try to sleep in a nearby forest just outside your city. Do it for one night, just as an escape with camping gear. You'll see the difference in your way of processing things instantly.

@@living_silence yeh I slept up a hill in the middle of the city, but it has woods (and at the other side of the hill is actually the zoo but I didn't go that far) and was great for camping. Busy during the day but at night it was like being in the middle of nowhere. I woke up FREEZING in the morning and had barely slept and felt smelly and dirty, but I didn't have my usual debilitating anxiety that I have every day I wake up inside a house

Hi guys. Thanks for this great video. Me & my family are planning living this way over the next year or so. We've got a lot of planning to do to get where we want to be. Is it an enjoyable lifestyle? It certainly looks it. Obviously we understand that it'll come with its work, but we want to experience a more easy going life at a slower pace with no bills & also living how people used to live. We already have certain skills to live sustainably in this lifestyle, we've just got to be patient to get ourselves a small holding so we have somewhere to reside & put a twin stable on for the horses for the colder months. Would be great to hear from you both.

I admire what you're doing. But I don't think that would work in America. Americans are more fericely independent and protective of their property. Find a place to camp would be harder. Driving the back roads will also be dangerous. People will not respect your rights to share the road and law enforcement will not understand what you're doing. I wish you safe travels. And may the horse 🐎 be with you.
