I really like Allegiant, I used to only fly Delta but the cost was just too much for me with wanting to see my family more than just once a year. They fly directly from LAX to Memphis non-stop which some airlines don't offer. I like to directly get there to see my family as often as possible and with Allegiant's prices, I'm definitely able to do that.

I work with Allegiant in their software department. And I must say you pretty much covered all the points regarding their business model. You rightly said that even though they project as a low cost carrier, their profits are quite high. I wish they gave more value to their IT engineers 😄.

As someone who doesn’t have much interest in the economics part of companies, it’s still incredibly simple to understand how companies like Allegiant make their money. Editing was top notch as usual. Great video!
@TheBudgetTraveller7862 жыл бұрын
Excellent points, it isn't difficult to see why Allegiant is so profitable. Even when other airlines try to compete with them, its difficult since most options with legacy airlines require a transfer in a hub city and are usually much more expensive. Also, I do want to clarify that the carrier usage charge can be waived if the ticket is bought at the airport counter, I have purchased $17 tickets with Allegiant in the past. But buying a ticket at the counter is tricky for most airports, since it is only open when there is a flight for that time.
@Travelog2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip about buying at the counter, I've heard that before but had forgotten that was for allegiant!

Something very interesting is that Allegiant just announced the purchase of 50 new 737 MAX
@Travelog2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, saw that news after I had finalized the upload. All I can think of is they must have gotten the deal of the century. Given the costs of new planes and training crews on an entirely new type they must have paid next to nothing and they are banking on the fuel savings.
@Blank002 жыл бұрын
Interesting leisure company to say the least. This airline that scored better than United for customer satisfaction in 2019 is the same airline that reoortedly got punished by investors for ordering 737 MAX recently, and of course, the same airline that got hammered by 60 Minutes in 2018. What could be the next trivia fact about this company?

Their bag fees are high. It seems like when you add up the fees such as a carryon and a checked bag, and a snack, and a soda, it adds up to more than what you would pay on Southwest where all of that is included in the base fare. My recommendation is that if you don't mind a tight seat that doesn't recline, having to pay for snacks and drinks, don't mind no in-flight entertainment, going a shorter distance for a vacation, and are a very light packer, you can probably save money by going Allegiant. But if you are a business traveler or someone who takes a lot of baggage, or wants the full service airline experience, you are probably better to fly a different airlines.

I just got back yesterday from flying Allegiant from St. Pete to Knoxville for the 10th time. The only issue was last year while departing from Knoxville was one of the engine generators went. The mechanics took care of it within an hour and we went on our way. Other then that, flights have been flawless.

My wife and I are booked on Allegiant in October to/from Vegas. Made the reservation in early April. Paid the extra fee's for all the perks. We chose our seats (1A & 1B) for both flights. Imagine our surprise when we were notified that our seat assignments were taken away. Had to rebook our seats (5E & 5F) for both. flights. We were really looking forward to the extra legroom in the first row. Not anymore. Anyway, it seems we are treated like second or. third class travelers. Never again will we book with Allegiant.

I love their flight out of newark. it has no delays because it is in terminal B which is usually international but pretty much inactive in the early morning. the flight definately beats the 10 hour drive in cost and time flying to cincinatti. seats are very uncomfortable but for that shot of a flight it was no issue.

My wife and I flew Allegiant out of South Bend on New Years to Orlan...I mean Sanford! Even after purchasing 2 exit row seats and 2 carry-ons, it still ended up cheaper than having a layover with AA, DL, or UA. Since the flight was delayed, they served cans of pop at the gate, so we took a few to have on board, and my card was never charged for the snacks I bought on board when the FA scanned my card. Would I fly them if another airline offered the same direct route? Probably not. But sometimes it's better to pay a ULCC's fees and get the direct flight over a layover and a CRJ-200 with one of the big 3.

Allegiant probably has the most unique business model in the us. They fly to the most random cities you’ve never heard of and have destinations to all the popular tourist cities but really don’t fly to many major airports. Most budget Airlines mainly fly to the big hubs but never go to the small cities allegiant does. The fact they are profitable and fill up planes is mind boggling to me. I love allegiant and fly them a lot in my sim. Im from south bend and hope to fly them one day. I should’ve flown them to Las Vegas when I went last year. Also something interesting is when I said that they don’t really fly to many major airports, they often go to cities with big airports and literally have another airport in the city just for allegiant (st Petersburg, Orlando Sanford, Phoenix mesa etc…). No other airline does that on the same scale allegiant does besides maybe southwest
@TheGecko2134 ай бұрын
Perfect observation I go frequently to Sanford , FL The whole freaking airport is exclusively Allegiant Orlando just 20 miles away is a massive behemoth with humongous security lines while you can finish security at Sanford in 10 mins flat and be at your gate just five minutes before boarding time 😮
@daybreakgray34522 жыл бұрын
agree with you on the legacy carriers. delta doesn't offer enough to justify paying $400 extra for DTW -> LAX.. i really could care less about lackluster in-flight entertainment, and tiny bags of chips. i only fly delta because they fly the same route multiple times a day, so i'm a little less stressed over cancellations.
@billsfo64002 жыл бұрын
Direct does not mean Nonstop. Direct means no change of planes but the plane will stop one or more times. Like an Airline I worked for once had a 737 that started in Scottsbluff NB then into Lincoln, next stop Omaha, then to Phoenix, last stop Tucson. Direct flight BFF-TUS.

I've known about the Allegiant model for years, and your information was great and you covered it well. I still find it hard to believe there are enough passengers filling up on those overpriced snacks and drinks and buying all the extra bundles, but they are still in business so obviously I am wrong. The sped up takeoff and landings were annoying, but that seems to be the trend now on YT. No longer is it about the flying or love thereof, simply the product.

Yo you managed to make a damning safety evaluation of those below-wing GAT employees in Savannah. 1:05 naughty naughty going up that belt without a handrail, 8:16 isn't how you wing-walk, and those are for sure soft-toe. Bruh that means the cost savings month-to-month of contracting ramp services has to be greater than the cost of however many times a year they that they punch a hole in the company's metal, which would inevitably result from those bad safety habits. Or else that'd be bad business.

The price is great. BUT always buy trip insurance and life insurance. And NEVER bundle services like car rentals and hotels. I found it more much expensive and impossible to cancel, because you must call them, and they NEVER answer their phones. Zero customer service, that’s not what they do. Renting through Costco travel is far less expensive and much more flexible. Most importantly you don’t have to pay up front and worry about getting your money back like you will with Allegiant. And its not like they have hundreds of substitute planes when something goes wrong. You’ll end up on major carriers to get home. So buy trip insurance with companies like Allianz so you aren’t stuck waiting for Allegiant’s schedule. Also search Allegiant Safety…

Allegiant isn't what you state it is. It's not an LCC (Low Cost Carrier, like JetBlue and Southwest), it's a ULCC (ultra-low cost carrier). I don't like the arguably deceptive pricing- fees exceed ticket. If you want to make a killing on the ultra-rich, have at it. But tricking broke folks is a bit low in my opinion, kinda like booing at the Special Olympics. I don't have a dog in this fight but exploiting the lower end of the middle class seems like a dishonorable business model- not that they would care. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would prefer an endeavor that would make my grandkids proud.
@Travelog2 жыл бұрын
You are right, but I personally don't draw much of a distinction between a LCC and ULCC. I referred to them as "a European style LCC" (ie Ryanair, easyjet, Wizz), which I thinks covers the bases. Their fee structure is absolutely exploitative by nature. I personally disagree on calling Southwest a LCC anymore, as their fares are now often higher than the big 3, and you get a lot more for your money (no basic economy, 2 free checked bags, no change fees on all tickets) than the "full service" carriers.
