I watched this video for nostalgic reasons. I lived full time in an RV for 7 years. My first RV was a Casita I kept it for 2 years. My only complaint was that it was not a 4 season trailer. Allow me an anecdote. It was Thanksgiving I was camped in Mimbres NM elevation around 5,700 feet ASL. I went to dinner at a friends house retuned to my Casita it was 6˚ above zero with light snow, needless to say the rig was frozen solid. I got into the sleeping bag and rose around 5 AM. As quick as I could I was heading south toward Padre Island somewhere south of El Paso the rig was thawed. Loved this well done video, and I miss the way of live. Safe Travels to all!

Oh wow! 😯 We've never camped at that temperature (and I hope we never do). Did you ever get a 4-season camper? If so, what did you get? I 'd love to go full time, but Doug is not on board. Glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you are still getting out there!

@@TravelsandTravails I traded the Casita on a 22 foot Arctic Fox it was a good rig then I got a partner and she talked me into an Evergreen Everlite. We had some issues with this unit but the company stood behind the product. We left the RV life for health reasons which will keep me house bound. If I felt just a bit better I would like nothing more than to head out, in a small rig, staying near to home and that would be just fine, there is lots to see in New England. Wish you safe travels.

We got our new Casita early summer last year. We made the decision after I spent nearly five years studying what I saw at campsites, rv shows and anywhere campers are seen. I talked to rv owners, watched videos, talked to rv dealers, and much more. The more I learned and the more I thought about the kind of camping I do, my new knowledge helped me to decide to go smaller, lighter, shorter and fiberglass. When you research fiberglass rvs you can narrow the search field greatly and easily. The decision to go Casita has, so far, proven to be the best for us. Good luck to those still searching and happy travels to all.

Hope we made the right decision : / We ordered Escape in 0ct of ‘20 and “hope” to get it in Feb of ‘22. Sold our 3 year old Casita for exactly, too the dollar (including all upgrades) for what we paid for it before we even put it on the market. You should never go through a drive through with a trailer. Good way to get stuck not being able to go forward OR backward. Ask me how I know that. I make mistakes so you don't have to. We bought our Casita Freedom deluxe in 2012. Lived full time for 18 months and put 80,000 miles on her! Family commitments put a 4 year stop to travels, but 2017 we again hit the road full time putting another 50,000 miles! Not one single issue! I did the driving and felt comfortable wherever we roamed! 30 National Parks, all 48 contiguous states and adventures too numerous to mention! We never stayed in anyplace other than our Casita. We did finally replace the toilet with a porcelain one....but full time living does increase the flushes....lol. Great quality product ❤️

Thank you - you have given us food for thought. We are buying a Ford Maverick truck - hauls up to 4,000-lbs and we were wanting a small trailer to start camping. Your video is helping us to make that decision. It's just the two of us. What we are really after is a small camper trailer that has a little bit of office space so my partner (she is going back to online college) can do her homework and be able to take nature breaks and for me, to get on the computer and learn more about my trade. At the same time, we would love for it to be a romantic love nest.

Although both Casita & Scamp are adorable, when you have little kids, you should never have to choose between a bathroom and bunk beds. Are you comparing a 13' Scamp to a 17' Casita? How much difference would there have been if you went with a 16' Scamp? To be fair, that should be included in the comparison. I was told that the "deluxe" model meant that it had wooden cabinets and trim.
@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 3 жыл бұрын
On a Scamp, the deluxe has the hardwood interior. On a Casita, deluxe means it has a bath. I don’t have any personal experience with the 16’ Scamp, but you make a good point. Doug says he looked at the 16’ Scamp, but it had smaller holding tanks than the Casita.
@williambranham6249
@williambranham6249 3 жыл бұрын
If your'e referring to deluxe with respect to the Casita in the model year we had, 2010, there was no wood to be found. It was somewhere between particle board, masonite and Medium density fiberboard. If that material gets wet for a period of time, it would swell and split. We never had an issue.
@northwindswi

You’re right on the smaller tanks but wrong on the fridge. A Scamp 16 has the bigger fridge and better insulation. Both trailers have pros and cons. We like our permanent full size bed and dinette and wet bath. I would prefer a queen but wouldn’t personally switch to the small twins.

One RV dealer said a RV roof should be sealed every 6 months that's too much time and work. I wonder why they said that but when I crawled on top of that new camper up the ladder and just looked at the top of the RV roof there were hundreds of holes through the roof. Obviously this is a leak waiting to happen. I've also experienced leaks and brand new cargo trailers that had to be sealed up. But I have a plan you could go for many years if not forever without sealing it. To really seal a roof even though it's gavalume - metal, aluminum or a fiberglass roof you still have stuff running through the roof AC, vent, sky light and more that will crack and leak over time. It's not if it's going to happen but when it's going to happen. What I did is I put 6"x 35' ft long aluminum on one side and sticky black tar on the other side that goes on the roof (I think they call it insulation tape.) Located in the insulation area at Lowe's for around $18 a roll. I installed it on my roof at all the seams, sky light and more so there would be no leaks down the road but at first painted it with Uncle Henry's 587 and after installing the insulation tape painted it again. Because I did have a small leak on my new cargo trailer. I'm pretty sure that's the number 587 and it's like icing batter which spreads with a paint roller or brush and for a just less than a 5 gallon pail is around $87.00 At home depot. White is the coolest color and won't get the roof as hot. this aluminum and tar tape will last for many of years down the road if not forever. It actually reminds me of dynamat sound and noise deadener but it's thinner, a lot less weight and money. Because getting water in a camper you can't see at first causes mold and is alot more time and money to fix later.

We had a Casita Liberty, the twins are too narrow, 22 inches wide, while a residential twin is 39 inches wide. Even the Casita Independence twin is much narrower than a residential twin, something like 30 inches versus 39. Almost all the molded FG are narrow, we have owned three: vintage Trillium, Casita (sold it) and an Escape 19.

Escapes are nice trailers. Liberty twin would be too narrow for me too. I do ok in the Independence because a queen bed is 60” wide and that’s what we were sharing at home.

Very good explanation! All the facts and none of the frill. But I would have liked to have seen a little more of the trailer with your doing a voice-over, such as storage space, the kitchen area in detail (although the fridge pic was pretty good), and the outside features. I'm a person who loves detail in something like this. Good job on the bed possibilities, however. That's the kind of detail I want for the rest of the trailer. If I could live my life over, I'd have gotten one of these decades ago!

What does this Casita weigh? Either I missed that, or it was left out. My 22 Outback Onyx Xt has a 3500 lbs, so that's a deciding factor in whatever camper I may buy. Thanks for the video, this type of car camping may be in my future, as it's the only way I'll ever get my wife to camp with me. I'm getting older, and setting up and breaking down camp when tent camping, is getting to be a real chore. And given that I have ZERO desire to camp in "family campgrounds" full of RVs with noisy gennys running, radios playing and kids screaming... something small enough to get to dispersed sites is a must-have capability. Thanks for making me aware of this brand.

May I make one suggestion I’m just a trucker myself but if you really want to have plenty of ice cream and other frozen things invest in a cooler by Alpicool T60 i’m not plugging this cause I make any money off of it I’m just saying in my 22 years of driving I’ve used other ambient coolers where I couldn’t have ice cream and now I found this modestly priced refrigerator freezer that fits on my passenger seat it really works well and you don’t have to pay the same price as you would for a domestic or something that is in that same style and I also recommend hooking it to the household inverter plug the cigarette lighter plug maybe it’s the power in my truck but I’ve melted a few of those the inverter side works flawlessly

Thank you so much for this video, it was very helpful. My wife and I are at a point where our Class C RV and tow car are getting to be more than we can handle and we've been thinking of going to a small trailer. My wife insists that whatever we do, it must have a bathroom. I've been leaning towards a Scamp or Casita and after watching your video I do think the Casita would probably be a better fit for us. I do like the twin bed idea because neither of us wants to crawl over the other to go to the bathroom at night (perhaps that TMI......).

I commented earlier about my Casita( n0w sold) but the prospect of camping in the 4th season(I assume winter) doesn't appeal to most people. The Casita is not insulated unless you count the carpeted walls. It has been mentioned he Oliver is a 4 season RV. I looked on their website and although in cross section the Oliver shows an inside fiberglass wall , a mylar/bubble wrap layer (Reflectix) in the middle and a fiberglass outer shell, I could not find in the specs or other information as to what degree this RV is comfortable in cold weather, nor to what degree the water lines will not freeze. With our propane heater we camped in 0 degree weather but the water lines had been winterized. We were comfortable but we like cold weather. It was warmer than a tent by far and we were out of the weather. From that perspective it was a 4 season RV. I'd like to know from an Oliver owner their experience.

Nice video. We owned an Oliver for a few years and sold it, not losing any money on it at all. Such great trailers, just a little small for us. Love watching videos about other fiberglass trailers. We are now looking into a Bigfoot 25. We may wait a few years until we retire, but our love of camping and fiberglass trailers make videos like this interesting. I would consider a Casita if it had a dry bath. Just something I feel I need. More power to those who are fine with a wet bath as they get the better priced trailers.

For me, Casitas were out mainly because their ceilings are too low, especially their smaller trailers (13, 16). Would have to go with a Scamp for that reason alone. Yes, both Scamp & Casitas have great resale-value, and sell fairly quickly. I like the Oliver, but for me it's too large/heavy, so I'd only be looking at a Scamp 13, T@B 320 Boondock Edge or an Airstream Basecamp-X. I think the size/weight limit for me would be something like the Lance 1685, but it's a bit TOO large/boxy for "off-road" use (and tighter trails). Smaller TTs are more nimble "off-road" and lighter to tow, so they're less wear & tear on my tow vehicle. Happy Travels, -- BR
