Hi P'Onn, my name is Nicoletta. My father was a good friend of Somchai from the time he was studying in Germany. I just found pictures from my visit to the island in 1997. Somchai was just building his house on the mountain. It would be wonderful if I could get in touch with him. Thanks very much.

@nickvonnixen4529 hi Nick Sadly to inform you that Somshai had been to heaven a year ago. But most of his kids ie Yodchai, Yodying both are half Thai-German are often to be seen in Koh Mak. Let me know if you need some help. Or having a plan to come to the island.

@@NiponSud Hello P'Onn, Thank you for your reply. I already feared it. My condolences to the whole family. Unfortunately, my parents are no longer on earth either. They have been visiting the island for many many years. Maybe you even know them. Klaus and Ursula. The mother of his children definitely knows my parents. I grew up hearing the stories of Somchai and my father, how they built the bathroom and toilet for his parents in 1969,......Somchai always had a lot of stories to tell. If you want I can send you the pictures I have. I think there are still some from the late 60's.

I love your island reviews. I work online as a teacher and am looking for a relaxing place to work that has good internet.
@TravelRoads3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for your support, it means a lot! ❤️ If you are looking for a low-key island with good internet, here are my top options for you: Koh Lanta: The island is not big, but not too small. It’s not overdeveloped. It has beautiful beaches and right now is a good time to go (November- March). There’s a big co-working community on Koh Lanta. facebook.com/kohuborg Even if you don’t use their facilities, you can easily meet lots of international people and go out with their fun gang (they organize events all the time). There’s great internet on the island and you can find cheaper accommodation options or book a place right on the beach. (Let me know if you need recommendations). Koh Phangan: It’s a big island with a lot of charm. Lots of cheap accommodation options here and good internet. If you choose this island, you need to carefully pick the area you want to live in. Some parts of the island are more crowded (Thong Sala), some are more local (Chaloklum). I am recommending you Koh Phangan because I love this island and even though it’s big, you can find a relaxing place to live, while still having the excitement of a night out. There’s good internet here. Koh Mak: This is a good option if you need to relax completely. The island is small. There’s a small community of expats you can meet. In general, not much going on on this island. So if you need a “retreat”, you can find peace and quiet here…and good internet. Koh Samui: Has good internet. If you pick your bungalow right, you could be on a lonely beach and relax. The island is pretty empty right now. The areas around Thongson Beach & Bang Kao Beach are very quiet. Big boulevards and lots of street traffic on this island. Phuket: Good internet here too and tons of accommodation options. You need to find the right area to live in. The island is big with lots of street traffic. Koh Samui and Phuket are not the most relaxing places. I am recommending these two only for the internet. You can also buy yourself a sim card with good internet and create a hotspot on your computer so you can work from anywhere :) Does this help? In doubt-> go with Koh Lanta or Koh Phangan :)

Good vdo! Koh Mak is nice place to relax. Me and Pin were there April 2017. Currently in Khon Kaen we have been driving the country and with government discounts travel is quite inexpensive. Our next plan is to visit Koh Chang, Mak again, and Kut. After these visits driving, with several stops along the way, toward Krabi. Thailand has been the place to be during this pandemic.

to go to turtle beach you have to go to koh mak resort and follow the beach upto a point were you can go into the jungle, more less when you are in front of koh kam, until you'll see the road through the jungle that arrives to the beach. At least is what we used to do before summer.

Hi Dawn, I did not snorkel off the beach at Koh Mak and don't know if there is such an option. I booked a snorkeling trip that took me around the bay and surrounding islands. Kho Mak vs Ko Ngai May I ask you Which island do you recommend?
@TravelRoads3 жыл бұрын
Hello! How many days do you have for your holiday? What time of the year are you traveling? What is the goal of your trip (relaxing? snorkeling? a romantic getaway?) Koh Mak and Koh Ngai are on opposite sides of Thailand. It's easier to go to Koh Mak from Bangkok. Koh Ngai is more difficult (and expensive) to reach. There is more to do on Koh Mak. Koh Ngai is a tiny place with only one beach. If the weather is bad, you won't have much to do. However, if you don't mind spending a higher budget, from Koh Ngai, you can easily go on day trips to Koh Mak and Koh Kradan (which are beautiful!). If you tell me more about your trip, I would be happy to recommend the perfect island experience :)
@이성현-p2l3 жыл бұрын
@@TravelRoads Thanks for your kindness reply^^ I am currently traveling in Northern Thailand for 8 months, and from mid-November to mid-January, I have a desire to spend about two months introspection on a beautiful and quiet island that is not well known to people in the south. Male, solo traveler on a low budget.(long-term bagpacker). I am thinking about it now,either Kho Mak or Ko Ngai now. IF there is a better island, please recommend it. I am ready to hear your opinion.
@TravelRoads3 жыл бұрын
Hi @@이성현-p2l, what a cool trip! Kho Ngai is not for you. It's way too small and really expensive. You will have nothing to do there. Most of Thai islands are empty right now, so no matter where you go, there won't be many tourists around. Koh Mak can be a good base for you. You can find cheap accommodation there. The island is small but pretty. You can go on snorkeling trips. And will meet lots of friendly locals and expats. The community is really open and welcoming- just go hang out at Banana Sunset and you will meet everybody. Koh Kut is another alternative. It's the most beautiful island I have seen. The problem is, you will not find good deals on your accommodation online. You need to talk to people directly once you get to the island. If the ferry is working right now, it's easy to hop from Koh Mak to Koh Kut. If I was on a 2 months introspection, I would also consider Koh Phangan. It's a big island and it's touristy. But there are very quiet places on Koh Phangan, where you can feel cut off from the rest of the world. You can have lots of people around when you feel like being social, and quiet moments by yourself. Another island I would recommend looking into is Koh Mook. It's not a very known island and it's not developed. The beach is beautiful! (white sand, fantastic water). It's a small Thai Muslim island. People are friendly. You will make a few friends there, but will probably be mostly by yourself. Unfortunately, I don't have a video to show you what the island looks like. From Koh Mook, you can easily do day trips to Koh Kradan (an amazing island!!! but not for long stay- too expensive), or Koh Ngai. I hope this helps. If you don't have time to research all the options, pick Koh Mak- it's easy to get to from Bangkok and it's a nice place :)) Look for facebook.com/yodyings. Yodying can recommend you accommodation options on Koh Mak. There's also information: here: www.kohmakguide.com/ Let me know which island you pick and how was your stay. Enjoy your trip! :))
