Being an active lifelong mariner both in my profession and private life aboard my beloved M/V Salish Sea, home berthed in an old marina in the west end of Victoria Harbour, it pains me to see derelict boats. It especially pained me to walk by kia ora III day after day. My heart was greatly relieved the day Geordie and Peter made their huge commitment to her.

Thanks so much Kim. The boat is a joy and the neighbours even better.

There is one near our marina in the Thousand Islands. Flox is her name, the oldest boat in the area, built around the time of the Titanic and served during WW1. A few years ago, the owner who's been her custodian for the past 60 years wanted to donate her to the local wooden boat museum. They asked 20K$ to take her... She's still out there, slowly decaying but afloat. I think the owner will sail her until she sinks at the bottom of the St. Lawrence.

Hi Peter! After a couple of years on the shore, I just picked up something that will work for us. Surgery and recovery have kept me out of the game, but I've never missed an episode! I'll probably be branded a traitor, but this one is glass. I've had so many wood boats that one transgression can be forgiven. But one thing for certain, there will be gobs of wood on this boat! What's even better, looks like I'm going to end up with a trailer for the boat as well! No more marina to worry about. No more haul outs, yard time and all the insurance for being in the system. Just walk out my door and get to work! I'll be posting video on this boat. I can't wait to take the grandkids out fishing and crabbing. For once in my life, I'm focused on fewer and fewer projects. Sold the airplane, sold several cars so I"m down to 4 or 5. By the way, it's a Monk design!!!! In any event, I'm planning on heading to Victoria sometime this summer. Would love to meet up and grab lunch. I just don't get to Victoria enough! Looking forward to coffee at Murchies too!

Huge hint. after spending 22 years helping a friend with a 104' wooden boat.. measure the prop/s measure the rudder.. get some short lengths of drain pipe to slip over them and hold them in place with something like giant tie wraps... have an upholstery or sail shop sew up a massive V shaped water proof material.. you can slip that in under the hull and lash it up either to the sides of the hull.. or opening it up and lashing it to the dock.. so any breaches in the hull that might happen can't sink the boat when unattended when lashed to the deck cleats .. or capture any debris when working on the hull or rails.. dropped hammer.. no problem its in the tarp under the keel.. throw a sump pump in to remove the water to pull the tarp in close to the hull.. hang a sump pump over the outside of the tarp to pump water into it.. hint.. rig a 5 gallon bucket with oil absorbing pads to act like an oil remover when pumping out.. don't want to use that many oil absorbing pads.. stick a 2 gallon bucket with a lid on top in the middle of the oil absorbing pads inside the bucket.. you can use bulk head fittings top and bottom side of the bucket to allow flow from your pump.. just a few ideas.

That boat is awesome, and as cheap as it must have been..... you can either spend a ton of time and some money for a great looking/running but still inexpensive boat that you could never get your money back on.....
