Thank you for the video. I enjoyed seeing the reproductions of the homes, and I like the piglets, too! Hmm...I seem to remember you had an affinity for wild baby boars ;-D

@ 6:02, the deeper you live below ground level, the more stable your environment. Most places around the globe it's only 5' down. : ) @ 6:15 - it is wattle & daub on the inside of the walls! Probably the first stage of the building, to get the Mrs & children out of the weather. Except I don't see any 'mud' (called slip while all this is being made. That's supposed to be stomped into the straw. My guess is this was a pig stye. They over built the roof big time. Also, if you looked up, at either end, you would have seen an opening left to allow any wintertime, indoor cooking/heating smoke to vent. @ 6:17 , you only need the one room to get out of the weather, and to keep out the wild animals while you sleep. The main living room, cooking area and Loo are the out doors. :) The name for the fish catching instruments, borrowed from the Germans, is weirs. The items in the room you saw were too dense for weirs, though. It would quickly become very heavy. As you'd be trying to lift it out, a lot of fish would be making it out of the opening. My guess is they are for hanging food items from the beams, out of reach of rats. @ 8:35 , the small walls behind your sweet lady are called 'wattle', why they would bother going to the trouble, and usage of valuable daylight/time, for an inside wall is beyond me. They must have left the wattle exposed in that house so people can see it. 8:41 When you went to the low opening to look into the oldest house, the part from your waist down is wattle (without any daub again). If I may make a short rant, whomever did the stick bit did a horrible job. Boy Scouts would have completed a far better product. What is supposed to be mixed well into those sticks is a slurry of mud with chopped straw. The mixture is forced in through the small openings, completely covering the 'wattle', or support sticks. Again, if one had the time to spare, they would also use a thicker mud slurry to cover the infill with a few nice layers of mud, so it would all be safe from the rain, and of course, hold in more heat. R There are wattle & daub buildings all over the place in any Medieval village in Europe. Or if it's a small house/room, cob was used, built up on a foundation of stones. Cob would need a good roof. @ 9:36, I see a smoke vent, up in the far wall back there. Proof that (a real one) it would have been a domicile. :) @ 12:21, If you research the draw of the medieval bows, they had an unbelievable 300 pounds draw, average. Even with a top shelf compound bow I could maybe get 80 to 120#. That's why the French with their fancy armour were a joke to the northern tribes. Their arrows would pierce the armour as if it were nothing. The mounted warrior would be skewed in no time - from an arrow. I don't suppose there was a Docent handy, too much to pay another wage I guess. Or maybe she's over there doing battle with the short Horde. :) This is lovely thing you are doing, sharing your visit with me. I am disabled and rarely get out of my own mobile home... Thank you so much, Nanette California, USA

I agree with you wholeheartedly that the items should still be in the grave!! Yes, you could have put a loft in that one house easily enough for more room! Thanks for sharing! Happy trails to Dan and Mazzy, The Travel Trolls!!

Nice little museum, good of you to share. I love the Bilbo Baggin's house as I love The Lord Of The Rings & The Hobbit. I read the books in high school, and was truly sad when Peter Jackson made such a mess of The Hobbit. The only thing I was happy he changed in the other movies was that extremely stupid Tom Bombadil. The guy was a git! I didn't mind Gandalf, but his one staff looked like a closet pole. I couldn't understand why they didn't have a nifty carved up one?! I thought those little houses you looked at were really darling. Just add a floor and some toilet amenities and rent them out for summer cottages. A little dolling up here and there and you could call it Hobbiton.

Did you know when you inhale cigarette smoke, your lungs become contaminated with radioactive material? More than the most radioactive places you can think of on earth. More than Chernobyl, more than airline Pilots & stewardesses, more than if you worked at a nuclear power generating station, and more than having pano X-rays at the dentist. Plus, your close friends or family members suffer from a degree of second hand smoke as well. I lost my Mother to lung cancer. :(

That would be a replica of Bilbo Baggins house. The real one is in new zealand. Gandalf was a bum, always traveling asking people if he could sleep on their couch.

Come on, Dan, enough ranting about graves. Many of the finds are found and documented because roads, houses or other infrastructure are being built. I only appreciate that archeologists document the stuff and use the finds to understand the life of people that lived in the past. It is not like any grave would be untouched when they are building a motor way. Either museums or the finds would be scrapped. I know what I prefer.

Many? You mean the ODD grave is found because of construction work. MOST are not. Did you see any documentation in the museum displays? Are the public not allowed to see the documentation? Don't get me started on grave digging because I will go off on one.

Now, I cannot answer for England since I don't live there but all the information is public in my country, albeit not on display. Here, you are always allowed to see all the documentation the museum have about any specimen. It is not a right though, to have it exactly on the signpost where you perhaps want it.

I agree with the 6. I don't like the grave displays. I've seen them do the same sort of thing here with Native American burial places and its not cool. The pigs were adorable though :-D
