He's definitely ONE of the best drummers, maybe not the actual best of all time. But he's up there. People under rate him because the styles of music he enjoys playing. But if you dig deep into his catalogue you can see he has the real chops of top level drummers.

What makes a drummer a great drummer isn't knowing all these tricks, playing fast and complicated crap it's actually being on tempo and holding the beat and knowing how to read write and play different generas of beats.

Most professional musicians dont read and write music. You are partially correct. Being able to play on time is important. But being able to "do the tricks and play fast" in time makes you an incredible drummer.
