Great video! It sounds much like the 383 stroker in my real 83 Chevy k10. It even sounds like my cheery bomb glasspacks through dual exaust! Very accurate recreation of the sound

Really cool video... *SUBBED* Is this still the go to a year on guys? I've just bought a Traxxas TRX 4 Defender. I wanted to put a light bar on top of the roof rack along with some bright headlights for FPV at night with a DJI Air 03 unit. Also, Can the receiver be changed out? As I need to install an ELRS receiver Any suggestions? Would really appreciate it. Thanks and take care.

Cool, thanks for the sub. The TRx4 line up from Traxxas are all very capable rigs. Yes, the receiver can be switched out. You will probably need at least a 5 channel receiver due to the remote diff lockers and two speed transmission. I got a special edition Orange Spektrum DX5 Rugged from my wife this past Christmas. I have converted three rigs so far. My Vaterra V100 Camaro, Traxxas 4tec 3.0 Corvette Stingray and Traxxas Rustler 4x4 VXL are now running off my Spektrum DX5 Rugged.

The V8 sound is one of if not the loudest sound the module has. I tried a few other and none mask the RC motor whine like the V8 sound.

Can you describe how it performs when changing from Forward to Reverse? Do you have to pause when driving? for example if you switched directions more quickly at 14:21 or 16:33 would the sound unit lose sync? My ESS ONE+ will go to idle perfectly, but if I proceed to Reverse from Forward (and vice versa) too quickly it goes to idle and 'gets stuck'. That is, it fails to detect the throttle is being applied. To be fair it forces me to drive in a more scale fashion, as in 1:1 it takes a moment to shift from FWD to REV and we often ignore that scale effect.

Yeah, my sound kit performs similarly. As long as you drive in a scale fashion it functions perfectly. However, if you mash the throttle to quickly from a stand still the sound kit will have to play catch up. Hope this helps😁

Do to come with a charger

It doesn’t require a charger. It plugs into the truck’s esc and receiver getting power from whatever battery you are using to power the truck itself. The sound kit can be run on a separate battery though and would require a charger for the battery you choose. I don’t feel it is necessary though if you are running a lipo as the main power source. This sound kit requires very little power to operate. I run a 3s lipo in my Blazer.

Mike jones Thanks🤗 It is geared low for torque, so with or without upgrades the top speed is the same. The drivetrain is tough and can handle a brushless system, but I prefer the stock brushed system for scale realism.

I plugged the red plug that the ESS kit provided and plugged it into the red plug on the Y-harness that was plugged into the ESC. I used one of my spare Y-harnesses so I could run the Traxxas light kit and the ESS Dual sound kit at the same time. I believe I purchased those red plug Y-harnesses on Amazon.

Is it possible to run this off the reciever power if the reciever puts out 7.4 volts?

You should be able to. Mine is powered through the receiver. The power supply I have installed is just for the light kit.

I've got a gen 8 axe. And the bec for the esc puts out 6v or 7.4v to the reciever. I dont have that external jst dongle like you have on your traxxas. I was thinking about replacing the jst connector with a servo connector and plugging it right into the reciever on an open slot. What do you think?

sabresswords 🤔 that might not work. You have to plug into the esc so that the engine revs will match actual throttle revs through the esc. You could make an adapter to plug into the JST connector on the sound system and then plug into the receiver. That way you aren’t cutting wires and voiding the warranty on the ess dual sound system. Is there a wire or port on the Gen8 esc that you can make an adapter for and plug into on your Gen8 esc?

@@beyondthebluerc1 no extra port on the axe esc. But the adapter from the jst connector on the sound system was my idea. IE, jst to servo plug adapter and then plug that into a spare port on the reciever. I knew about the Y plug that goes to the throttle channel. I was talking about the power lead. I dont want to have to power it directly off the battery if I dont have to. I run ec5 connectors and they're a bitch to make jumpers for.

I’m sure it could be modified to fit. It comes with Velcro as well as the plastic mounts. The plastic mounts probably won’t work, but Velcro should he the job done. I would probably try to use Velcro straps in addition to hold it down more securely.

The sound font I am using in this vid is called Big V8, which is one of the sound fonts that comes preinstalled. At some point I do want to download some other sound fonts and install them. I have other projects I want to get done and this one is low on the priority list. Plus, I honestly just keep forgetting to do it🤪.

EZ4U2Say11 It’s been a while, but I think that while the sound kit is powered up and running you have to press the “-“ button for a couple seconds to change sound fonts. Hold it down 1 beep is the first sound font and hold it down again 2 beeps is the second sound font. You can also plug it into a computer and download different sound fonts. The sound kit comes with 2 engine noise sound fonts. I am using the big V8 sound font.
