Couldn't run a battery down, overheats every time in sport mode AND beginner modes, thermal shutdown every time. Got an HR ESC fan and heatsink and motor fan and heatsink, sport mode, finally drained a battery and it never got hotter than 127 degrees

My stock ultimate usually over heats around the 7-10 Minute mark. Kinda disappointing. Also, the motor has this loud Screeching noise when I’m near full throttle. Just doesn’t sound right. Will need yo upgraded the electronics 😵💫

@WTFRCCars4 жыл бұрын
If your running 3s off road you will need to fit a fan on the motor also on the esc then fit a smaller pinion to drop the load on the motor and esc, this will drop the top speed though.

I ran mine on a track today in 29° heat on 3s for 20 mins and had no problems....seems strange to me. Granted the motor was hot at the end and I do have a fan on the esc but it never went into shutdown.
@WTFRCCars3 жыл бұрын
Yeh you can make em work but traxxas should fit a fan to both the esc and motor as I say stay ck out the box it won't run a full battery before it hits thermal shutdown :(

I’m confused, I’ve ran only 3 s since they came out with the system. Back when they had the gold posts on the esc on the first gen. I’ve never used 2s never destroyed a motor or esc. Owned every vxl made. Bigger tires and gears may be your issue. Don’t forget traxxas warranties the motor and esc if your worried.
@WTFRCCars3 жыл бұрын
The issue it that the traxxas vxl system as it comes with stock gearing stock wheels can only run for about 10min and then the esc hits over heat shutdown there just not very good, the Hobbywing system I swapped it out for can run none stop for the whole 8000 mah 2s and 3s battery no issues at all and is a higher kv motor so should run hotter, we also had exactly the same issue with a arrma senton 3s stock 3s just get hot and shuts down if you keep doing it eventually you kill the esc and it's crap having to wait for parts to be replaced so on most of my rc's I just swap out the crap stock gear for something much better and don't have to deal with the over heat issues I don't drive the RC any different with the hobbywing gear it's just more powerful so when on the grass track it runs cooler.

I do think with a good cooling fan on the motor and esc the stock vxl would be ok on 3s but they should supply it with the RC from new it would literally cost traxxas less than $5 a car lol

This guy is FOS….I run ONLY 3s with no problems whatsoever…..You obviously don’t understand the concept of “DRIVING” your vehicle. Full throttle all the time is not driving….
@WTFRCCars2 жыл бұрын
Don't understand driving? I race 1:8 and 1:10 and never have a motor over heat the slash and senton can't run a full 5 min on a track at 3s without thermal shutdown on stock gearing out the box there just not upto it they both run fantastic on 2s though. For the price of the traxxas ESC and motor or the spectrum in the senton you can get castle or hobbywing that can run 3s fine it's just the stock electrics in both are total garbage.

In fact, Deans plugs are not an upgrade over the Traxxas ones. Same structure, but smaller and harder to disconnect. The best upgrade are the XT-90 - much more contact area and higher amperage flow. Plus, they are waaay easier to solder than the Deans...
@WTFRCCars Жыл бұрын
The system in this one doesn't even come close to the max amps of deans and I have many other rc's with deans on them so it's just easier, deans are definitely an upgrade from the traxxas plugs they are weak and nothing else uses them, as for the xt plugs I do use xt 60 on the crawler but for anything else I run ec5 and 4/5mm post connections

I have a Traxxas Slash 4x4 Ultimate which only has a fan for the esc and motor and I run a 21T pinion with a 54T spur gear (everything else is stock) on 3s and hit upwards of 75mph where mine has never overheated. It definitely gets really hot (170 F°) after 15 minutes of run time in warm weather but I haven’t had any issues although I only run mine on the road but thanks for the video!

I'm neither a Traxxas or Arrma fanboy but it's just the price of the Traxxas that kills it for me. All I've done to my 3s Senton is adding twin Chinese motor heat sinks and cooling fans for about £9. It's been faultless for a year, even through a bit bonkers on 3s. Buying a Traxxas, throwing away stuff that you've paid for and then having to fit more bits that you've paid for would make me wince. 👍

My mate has just got an arrma senton 3s with the new spectrum RC gear the lag is so bad he's had to remove the RC gear and swap it all out just so it was drivable there was a half a second delay on every input :( the servo was also terrible 7kg servo in a sct was no use at all the older aarma RC gear was spot on but by the time he replaced everything just to make it usable it cost more then the slash I don't get why they changed it, it is a great RC now though :)

@WTFRCCars4 жыл бұрын
It's such a shame I think it changed when horizon got hold of aarma, I think it's hard to compare the senton 3s to the slash ultimate as they are both different priced and very different spec cars if you upgraded the sentons shock and hubs to alloy like the slash and the alloy adjustable motor mount and sway bar kit they would be the same price and probably drive much the same I do find the senton easier to work on when having to remove the motor and center shaft but the draw back is the centre bearing pops out sometimes so ya win some ya loose some think in the end so long as you like the car ya have it doesn't really matter lol we have loads of fun with em all

Yeh the centre bearing is a bit of a strange choice not sure why they didn't go with a solid center shaft and a normal nut adjust for the slipper clutch but guess they thought it would work better.

So for the stock ESC and motor they don't like 3s, you can fit a motor fan, and ESC fan and a smaller pinion will all help if your going to run 3s, for me I swapped out the ESC and motor for hobbywing max10 SCT and 4000kv motor as I run mine mainly on 2s set up for track use :) 3s is pretty much useless on a 1:10 SCT for anything other than speed runs they handle way better on 2s and the battery is lighter too, I absolutely love the slash it drives fantastic :)

If your getting 45min run time your driving very slow or stopping a lot that's why it's not over heating a slash 4x4 will drain a 8000mah 3s in around 20 min on a track constantly driving fast.

@bdd1469 Жыл бұрын
@WTFRCCars What is the difference between " racing it " and running it WFO in short grass? Do multiple cars magically make your car run hotter? Is there an extra wide fucking open setting on my controller when entered in a race? I regularly ( several times a week ) run my car in short grass in 80°+ F Temps NOT on a track, OR being slowed down by other cars, and it doesn't overheat on one 5000 3s pack. It doesn't take a genius to realize you are going to use a battery quicker, aka make more heat faster when you are not limited by turns, traffic etc, like you are in a race. I hear what you are saying, but there is no logic behind it, unless the slower speeds you are running in a race don't cool as well as WFO all the time. Maybe the older motors and esc's are different, but I havn't experienced any overheating issues on 3s, except in tall grass, which Traxxas tells you not to run it in.
@WTFRCCars Жыл бұрын
Braking causes lots of heat in the esc also we have had them overheat running 3s on flat dirt and gravel on a day with just under 20° c temp the traxxas esc and motor are poor no heatsink on the motor and no esc fan for the price the electrics are just plain bad, don't get me wrong I don't hate the slash ultimate it's a fantastic RC and lots of fun just not a fan of traxxas electronics
