Hey everyone, welcome back to ChriswithaC RC! Today, I’m diving into what might be an unpopular opinion: the Traxxas Sledge Truggy deserves way more credit than it’s getting. I know it’s still early days, but I took this beast out for a spin in a setting that I believe truly showcases what it’s made for.
Now, I know many are saying this truggy should be catching 30-40 feet of air, but I don’t think that’s its main strength. As a huge truggy fan with plenty of experience under my belt, I can honestly say that this one has reignited my passion for the RC bashing hobby.
In this video, I’ll not only show you what the Traxxas Sledge is really capable of but also share some simple and affordable tips to keep it running smoothly-especially addressing a few known issues.

Just ignore the haters. If you don’t drive your RC cars like you stole them, any brand can last a long time without issues or breakage. I have a bunch of RC cars of all types and brands. Traxxas, Losi, associated, Arrma, etc. I love em all. I’m not a hard core basher. I’m more of a blaster, with mild bashing and jumping. I can’t remember the last time I had to buy a part for any of them, because I broke something. I don’t drive like a knucklehead. Great video, man. That thing is awesome.

Totally agree with you , I don’t like to nail myself to a brand , but rather enjoy them all for what they are for instance this sledge feels heavier and slower getting to its top speed but , with that it feels more direct and controlled, now my Hobao feels precise but not easy to keep down when flat out . There all different that’s the point you learn there nuances and driving styles . Stay awesome buddy Chris :)

You have to decide if you want to use the Sledge as an extreeme basher, or just run up & down on a flat field. With the later it will do it all day long. As a basher which most tend to do with the Sledge it does have issues, which a lot of very good experienced drivers will attest to. They normally bend the chassis first time out bashing, followed by transmission problems. The Sledge problems are pretty well documented out there on video's. The ironic thing is Traxxas has just had a taste of its own medicine, they have just had to change the name of there brand new release Mudboss truck, because they nicked the name from someone else lol.

The thing is buddy , having a good mixture of both bashing over some smaller jumps and running flat out on fields , dust , gravel , tarmac . So planning on doing some smaller upgrades to help with the strength of the truck , as problems develop ill address them with researched upgrades. SO have the upgraded spur and pinion done , Then going to look at the spiral cut gearing , a chassis and then also some wheel hubs . Stay awesome buddy Chris :)

I cant agree any more you feel brand new and chilled rather than destroyed . when you truck comes home in one . Nice video man. I love the Sledge, traded my Kraton stock and Blackjack24 for a very nice upgraded Sledge with the Max8, shock tower chassis aluminum mounts front and rear and couple other things. Just had to drive 3 hours for the trade, little crazy but was well worth it. Absolutely love it

I want one. Bad. I like the way truggies look. Want to step up from rustler 4x4 3S. Maxx is not enough of a step up, and XRT is out of my price range at the moment. This one fits the bill. I can take my existing 3S batteries and be off and running. For general dirt work I think it would be a ripper.

I’ve had nothing but issues with mine. Still stock just metal gearing. Constantly chasing issues. Mainly with rear differential, and I got it shimmed. 😢

The problem with most of these major brand rc's is the owners that go out there and straight up abuse them beyond belief and then cry about durability and it sucks etc. Although nothing is perfect don't try and kill it and then bitch and moan after!!!! Great show sir!!!

This is totally true buddy I could not agree more , if you want a stunt truck by a stunt truck , a truggy by definition is a truck and buggy hybrid this is what people are forgetting ! A stunt truck by definition is a truck built for stunts This is the way I see it . Love seeing you rip around in the welsh valleys fella. For me Traxxas is a brand that doesn't appeal because they are a Lot more expensive then the competition,,, I also don't like the nature of them building cars that are trying to force you to buy their overpriced batteries,. I think they no doubt make great cars, I really like the look of the Maxix and Xmaxx but im never spending a grand on a toy car. I know many don't like their aggressive business practices but I don't care about that, in fact I think any company has a right to protect its patents.. so yeh, for me its just the silly pricing. I would rather spend far less on a Team Corally, don't see any need to spend far more on a Traxxas.

Hey buddy , Yeah i totally hear you on this , I agree with the Aggressive practices mentioned it was uncalled for many thought , but i stand with what i said in another comment , Tons of cash thrown at a design team , Prototypes , Testing etc it does not come for cheap your paying companies salaries to come up with the trucks we love and hate ( according to some ) you can imagine a team was set out to create a receiver box , cad designed then sent to a prototype team who set out the cast for the parts , a machine then produces samples , each one gets tested . finally a testing team uses this day in day out to make sure our receivers stay dry ! ( the end user ) so it does make you think well hang on they do have a right to protect there invented parts . Yes i agree pricing does seem like alot , But one thing to mention here also is cost of vehicle expensive , but in many cases if not most replacements and upgrades cost less than the opposition . its a ECO System we all buy in to . and after all that a chinese brand copies them all ! go figure lol . As i said im not a fan boy of any brands but i do like RCs and we all need to remember we do this for down time . its a Hobby . Stay awesome buddy Chris :)

@@ChriswithaCrc yrs, it does take a lot of resource to develop and test, I have been a buyer for over 25 years, 12 of those I lived in the Far East so I am fully aware of product development cycles. the Chinese are masters of copying, they are also the place to go if you want high volume low cost manufacturing but just because a products the same or similar doesn't mean it is. times are changing though. for Traxxas I just find them too expensive, just my opinion, at the end of the day its like you said its just an enjoyable hobby and you put in as much or as little as you want. I am a fan of team corally, I find the pricing better, build, performance and durability are excellent and im sure they are taking share from the big brands,, but the Chinese are coming,, Rlaarlo and MJX are the 2 brands that spring to mind. anyway, good video, no denying the impressive performance of the sledge in your video. :)

Cant agree with you more buddy , and i also love TSM and AVC to be honest , for fast ground running it makes sense to use a gyro , I use a gyro on my Radiolink RC8X also . I love all RCs but do have my favourites thats for sure . Stay awesome Chris :)

Great video my guy, the Sledge is a beast. I’ve done a few upgrades because they were needed such as M2C motor mount, spiral cut gears front/rear diffs, hardened steel pinion/spur, RPM bumper, and aluminum shock caps. Check it out

Hey there buddy , Ive been watching you videos avidly , So many good tips and information , Thanks for keeping the community going brother . Yeah So im currently putting a list together as we speak of the upgrades im hoping to have for it . i want to add them for reason rather than just wanting them .Strategic rather than want ! does that make sense , Ive already added the hardened spur and pinion gears , Motor plates for the bottom of the chasssis , and a RPM bumper . Im thinking Bulkheads , Chassis , front and rear spiral cut gearing and hubs . Stay awesome Chris :)

So thats the Cambrian wheel its a memorial to the miners of the south wheels valleys . the Valleys were i live was the heart of the Coal mining here in wales . so that wheel is part of the machines they use to excavate the coal out from the mine. it was put there to remember a disaster that took place in the mine . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambrian_Colliery

im not a business traxxas fan. but had to have the xmaxx from what the internet said. if your a ground pounder then ya the sledge will be fine. if a person was thinking they might want to build up to extreme bashing and launching. This might not be what a person would want, with a stamped chassis and monkey metal, I would highly not suggest it.

My buddy went nuts and bought him and his wife each a Sledge last year. They don't bash, don't jump, and have for sure never attempted a flip. They drive around in the yard on the grass and sling gavel in the driveway. They've each killed a servo, she bent a chassis, both had multiple bent axles and shocks. I honestly can't remember all the issues. After hanging out and doing some light bashing one time with a few of us they both got 8s Outcast EXB's. I'm not gonna scream anything particular is better but from my limited non ownership experience the Sledge isn't worth the price and isn't a great basher. I've got a Xmaxx and TRX6 so I'm not averse to Traxxas but it's rare you'll hear anyone say positive things about a Sledge. I'd also be hard pressed to think that if you ran 2 bone stock Kraton EXB's in that field the same way you did the Sledge that you'd break them both.

Hey buddy , Yeah i hear you , I am planning on getting a Xmaxx very soon , but i paid a reasonable price for this truck and already im having less issues that my k6 EXB v2 . its was a weird situation with the EXb , I put a alot of time effort and research in to what would work and it just did not pay off. I love the way the Sledge and traxxas are put together mind . So maybe this is is the one for me . Stay awesome buddy Chris :)

You can’t remember it all because you’re lying! All they do is drive around the yard and driveway, and they’ve fried servos, bent chassis’s, bent axles and shocks, etc? Either your lying, or they can’t drive, and are constantly crashing at high speeds.
