I've thought the x-maxx was badass ever since i saw it leaked out before it was released. It only being able to run 30mph on 6s though was kinda a killer for me. But now with just a gearing change you're hitting double! Thats awesome man this thing has sparked my interest even more!

Thanks for the insight. I take it that the X is geared very low out of the box ... too low? How much did this gearing reduce your run time? Personally I think 60mph is too much for off roading , 45mph would be the sweet spot as long as the run time doesn't suffer too much. The OE run time seems to be around 40mins with 6500"s , I'd give up 10min for 45mph Thanks again

+Hammer Home With the high speed gear I was able to manage around 15 minutes of run time and still had extra juice left. Driving for 15 minutes is a long time for me and if I wanted to get more run time I just drop the gears/pinion size, Its that simple and easy. If you are looking for a 45mph top speed I would try a 18-20 pinion gear. My guestimate would be around 20-25min of run time. If you use a 8400mah 3s batteries like I have you could possibly get more. Thanks for watching!

In conversation with a buddy , we think that maybe with Traxxas's low 25C rating on the 3s batteries they sell ? They have kept the gearing low to not damage the total package. 40+ C rating batteries in a 3s configuration are few and far between right now. I do have an idea for speed runs if that's what you like.... Hobby wing has a 1/5 speed control with built in fan , 8s and it's not expensive. Drop in two 4s batteries and a fan on that motor for a 70+ mph tire explosion. cheers!

+Hammer Home Yes we've been talking about that ESC with my fellow speed run buddies. I might just swap out the XL2 on my XO and see what it does on 4 but that wont be the problem for this truck, the weakest link will be preventing the tires from exploding or ripping apart. This truck is too new to do that. Maybe later. With my SPC 7200mah 70c rating it has way more punch then the traxxas 8400mah 25c that I have. The higher the C the better for this truck imo

Sooooo , my theory may be correct with the low gearing to protect weak C batteries. Good to see that the X will hammer out regardless of higher gearing. I have a REDCAT XBE with a Castle 1717 on 22v and it is stupid fast , at almost the same weight as the X and a comparable motor , I expected more from the X than the first few video's we seen , but now it's become clear that it is tuned on the low side out of the box.

I would be interested if the XO1 1717 motor from Castle has more power than the new Traxxas motor ... Since you have a XO1 , I would like to see them swapped for a comparo ... I own two 1717's but yet to get the X .. I'm sure others would like to know if this is a potential upgrade or not.. Thanks again

what gear and spur combo do you consider the medium for the X Max. I want to run it on whatever surface without putting to much stress on the system and high speed run it on the same gearing. thing 18-20 on a 46. Im going to try the 18/54 first tho and see if I'm happy with it

+Jay Coleman That's a good start 18/54 if you go higher with the 46 spur I would not recommend doing that on the stock esc. That's the weak link imho

+udluuz I purchased two 30 mm fans for both sides of the esc. And I'm getting a cooling system for the motor as well. Stock gearing is 15/54. The truck needs more top end. Is going from 15-18 on the pinion gonna make much difference?
