Tray's DIY Trike Motor Install!

We join Tray in his bike workshop as he takes us step by step installing a Tongsheng motor on his HP Velotechnik Scorpion. Tray says "It's so easy even you can do it!" From our Webcast on May 2022.

Dishwashing Liquid helps sliding on or Off. Throttle is Right hand, flip so use raise thrum to press.

What size mid drivebottom bracket you using? 68, 100 or 120

For non-mechanics, which way do you loosen and tighten the pedals?

Right pedals loosen by turning counter-clockwise, left pedals loosen clockwise.

Dab a little bit of grease or anti-seize on the threads when you reinstall. That will keep them from seizing together and makes it easier to remove next time.

Who did you get your e-assist kit from? I have a gekko 26 non folding and want to put e-assist on it for touring....utah trikes wants to sell me a bafang kit but I like the torque sensing of your motor.

Steve, I got my kit from these folks: cycles.eco/ Fantastic to deal with and they can configure a kit to meet you trike needs. I much prefer the Tongsheng torque sensing vs the Bafang's cadence sensing. The tourque sensing makes it feel like a seemless extension to you ability to pedal vs the on off feel of the Bafang.

I'm trying to decide which e-assist system to install on my gekko 26...mid-drive or hub motor....but also thinking if I should just sell the trike and upgrade to a better trike to handle the multiday/week/month touring i want to do during my retirement years. Since I sold off my truck on Friday I'm now carless in LA. Hopefully I can find a trike to use....e-assist or manual....to do these trips.

If I understand right, Bafang now has a 750w torque sensing motor. Looking to convert my Tricon to electric mid/IGH.
