Trazodone works, I have terrible sleeping problems but I'll take a couple trazodone, maybe smoke some buds, and its night night for me. I also feel like I have vivid dreams when I take trazodone, which is kind of nice because I rarely remember my dreams.

This was literally the most helpful info I've seen yet. Been on Mirt for over a year and have noticed the sedation aspect is wearing off so considering switching to Trazadone. Still not made up my mind but SO good to hear a rational explanation from someone who has actually experienced both drugs - especially long term when all the studies out there consider "long term" to be 3 or 4 months' use. Also - now I understand why I've gotten into the habit of taking not one but TWO bowls of cereal to bed with me........ !!!!!!

If you take remeron on an empty stomach: it is definitely going to want you eat anything you could possibly imagine. And, also the sedative effect will work stronger and heavier ( in a good way ) Euphoria like . Back to the need of eating after half an hour of taking this med. is a major thing . But you can avoid this by taking it after eating not before; but the sedative effect will be less. It's your choice. Overall remeron is an absolutely great medication.

Worse side-effect for me on mirtz are food gravings and sometimes restless legs when trying to sleep. That's why I chose to try something else. Also tried nortriptyline, which was too mild for me.

I find that it fills my sugar cravings without excess sugar and a lot less calories. I also drink nearly nothing but water or sparkling water. @@naty9978 i actually just came off mirtazapine this year, was on it all up for nearly 9 years Hmm.. not really, i think it almost gets worse, you really need to change any bad habits you have early on. I think that only allowing myself to drink water or herbal teas helped me, try not to drink juice or anything like that. If you find yourself struggling with it in the next few months you can always get off it. But keep in mind if you gain weight and feel not as healthy as normal, that will have its own negative mental health effect so its really worth trying to fix

Trazodone: Makes your body tired. Mirtazipine: Makes your brain tired. I prefer remeron for sleep as far as off label sleep aids go. Just try not to take remeron everyday... I gained a lot a weight. I was able to taper off ever the course of 2 months with little problems. Although, I noticed much much greater next day grogginess with remeron rather than trazodone. Allow at least 12 hours for sleep when you first start remeron. I also agree with brokenharbours anecdote on how he believes higher doses of remeron are in fact more sedating than lower doses. For me 22.5 mg was more sedating than 15 mg and 30 mg more than 22.5 mg.

As someone who has also been on Mirtazapine for 4 years and has experimented a lot with it, I’ve been up to 22 mg (briefly) tapered down 3 times, Twice quickly (don’t recommend that) and the 3rd time very slowly, was off it for 45 days, now back on. Anyway, if you’re taking it only for sleep, Mirtazapine is sedating at 1 mg, so there is no need to take a high dose of this med. Take a low dose when you really need sleep and you won’t have to worry about any side effects.

Ah, Trazadone or Remeron....I've been on them both off and on through the years, for me it's Trazadone....Remeron puts me to sleep like waaaay way too long lol, I wake up like way too late the next day with a very hard time shaking off the cob~webs from it. Trazadone gives me a good solid 7 to 8 hours, sometimes maybe 6 hours, which is better for me...even though it's kind of rough upon first waking as I feel groggy~ish and all but it doesn't last as long as with the Remeron.

Many thanks for an excellent video. I have been on Mirtazapine for 8 years now. It has been a true friend to me. I sleep very well. Yes, those munchies are terrible. I am now using another strategy: take Mirtazapine and just drink some fruit juice to fill the tummy. Then just run out of the kitchen. I get into bed and read a book on binge eating until I fall asleep. My munchies have always been due to staying too long in the kitchen after taking it. Take Mirtazapine and go and read in bed.

Ive was prescribed Mirtazapine . It shoots your appetite for ,and you can easily put pounds on. Secondly it makes you feel sapped of energy and exhausted all day long. Thats what 15mg did to me. 7.5mg didnt have the all day fatigue factor though, but still raised appetite. I have a gree with the video poster, the higher dosage you take IMO will have much stronger (excessive) hypnotic effect., NOT LESS.

@77dris7 жыл бұрын
I was started on 1 pill (15 mg I believe) in October 2014, then the pains and weight got to me months later (as well as dry mouth), around May 2015. In October 2015 I dropped to 1/2 pill (7.5 mg) and seemed ok, until 2 weeks later, HUGE panic and anxiety that lasted for a couple weeks. I had NO idea what was happening since 2 weeks had passed and I didn't think it was related to the withdrawal. In December I dropped by another half, down to 1/4 pill (3.75 mg) and same results... 2 weeks later I had major attacks of panic and anxiety, just not myself. In February I went off completely and WHOA! That entire spring I felt like I was tied to a chair with my eyes taped open and propped onto the surface of the sun! Anxiety, panic at times, sweating, extreme insomnia, though I did lose weight. Abdominal pain (upper left) went away after a couple months but the other negative effects did not, so in May I started taking a tiny sliver (1/8 pill though it's hard to cut it properly) and have been there ever since. Weight gain is about 20 lbs and no amount of working out (do weights 4-6 days a week) really helps. Diet can help but I'm eating what seems like very little food to drop even 10 lbs , so not sustainable.

I had to ask for Trazadone after facing insomnia myself with no relief and having trouble with SRRI or SRNI’s for depression. It was helpful but Mirtazipine really helped me with insomnia. I had maybe 2 nights of 4-5 hours sleep each week without anything I was a zombie from not sleeping. With both I sleep 4-6 hours most nights with maybe 1 or 2 nights of sleeplessness. I also had stopped eating much and had lost nearly #20. So for me it works really well, I stopped losing weight and I’m sleeping better.
@alaididnalid76608 жыл бұрын
Good review. But here's a thought, each time you take an additional dose of Trazodone you are upping your tolerance even further making it ineffective in the long run. You can try asking your pharmacy to create melatonin supplements and combine it with either meds. I personally take 3.5mg of mirtazapine for now with 1mg melatonin, hoping to keep the weight gain at bay. Have you experienced withdrawal from mirtazapine or trazodone at some point? I came off mirtazapine before with no withdrawal symptoms after being on it for only a month or so, however, for some things get rough when they titrate down to below 4mg where it gets especially hard to dose the drug.
@quinmckendry9869 Жыл бұрын
It's not even a class of actual sleeping pills which are the one your describing. There is s difference between dependant on something and tolerance. Dependance is not an issue here though ( people are dependant on wheelchairs too ) I do understand though, as a recovering addict, the absolute seriousness of being an informed patient. I'm floored that you ask someone what doc gave them and they answer ' some orange pill or whatever ' Docs hate me as I also became a SW in medicine after addictions and I overall, if that's possible. I agree, tolerance is for many things ( hot sauces, booze, benzos ( thee most hellish withdrawal ever ), but certainly, for me, trazodone so far 9ver just week of 50 mg has helped alot. Whatever causes less harm, the sleep deprivation, or the pill, tough balance. I heard no mention of sleep cycles, which is hugely important. He lost me by not mentioning that as that is an absolute requirement. Benzos were Hell visited upon withdrawal. These pills described are not even close to the nightmares of benzos and the blue litter footballs, zopiclone ( total disruption of sleep cycle).

I went off of Mirtazapine 2 months ago. If you don't taper off and just stop cold turkey, your heart will pound and you're likely to have anxiety attacks--even if you didn't have anxiety prior. If you taper off slowly, the excess weight (which usually is accumulated around the abdomen area) falls off, quick. I became very moody for a few weeks. That's about it. Once your body adjusts, you'll be fine. This is a very gentle drug, and it's very easy to stop. As with all drugs, you're body will be shocked if you stop abruptly. But if you taper off over a few days, you will be fine.

It can cause pretty bad headaches for some. Supposedly mirtazapine (not trazodone) is sedating at lower doses. I was taking 100 mg of traz way back and that seemed to work for a good while. Maybe trazodone isn't right for you. Diphenhydramine (benadryl) works in a slightly similar way to mirtazapine. The cost of these two meds isn't much actually -- they are both generic and are pretty cheap, might even be less expensive than benadryl brand name.
@travt7Ай бұрын
7.5 mg of mirtazapine works so much better than Benadryl for me. My primary care physician tells his patients not to take diphenhydramine for sleep because it may be associated with dementia. If mertazapine is a stronger antihistamine, is there even more risk of dementia for long-term mirtazapine use?
@brokenharbourАй бұрын
Good question! So the property that benadryl has that is thought to cause dementia comes from its action on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, not from its strength as an antihistamine. Mirtazapine thankfully does not have the same acetylcholine blocking capacity so even though it is a stronger antihistamine than benadryl, it is a much weaker "anticholinergic" by comparison. They are two distinct pharmacological functions.

do you know how do unisom/doxylamine succinate compare to mirtazapine? Both are antihistamine. I am struggling with poor sleep for a while now, been taking unisom, but it doesn't have effect anymore. Is there anything you can counteract sedation of trazodone in the am? I am likely to end up on that one. I heard Mirtazapine is supposed to be fast metabolized, and you can't achieve full sleep cycle.

Can I get Trazadone through my primary care doctor instead of a psychiatrist?
@LeeAnne199011 жыл бұрын
Trazadone made me feel dizzy. Like I had too much alcohol to drink. No drowsiness. It only worked because I had to keep my eyes close in order to minimize the dizziness. The remeron is great. It works fast, and enables me to fall asleep withing 10 minutes of laying down. The only bad thing is I get EXTREMELY hungry while on it. If I let myself, I could eat two whole meals in one sitting. The cravings are almost impossible to control. It makes me feel like I haven't eaten in days.

When you say mirt isn’t sedating the next day, are you popping an Effexor in the morn and saying that or is that with mirtazapine monotherapy

If you have anxiety, insomnia, and depression, you most likely have a low B12. The best test to determine a low B12 is a methylmalonic acid test, because it will measure the B12 at the tissue level. A serum B12 test is not that accurate, because B12 can be low at the tissue level for years before it shows to be low in the blood. When B12 gets low at the tissue level, it causes methylmalonic acid to rise. This acid blocks enzymes that convert ammonia to urea for evacuation out of the body through urine. When the ammonia starts backing up, it gets elevated and causes depression, anxiety and insomnia. Get that methylmalonic acid and ammonia test done, because I would bet that's causing your problem. Take care my friend.

dont forget that you will start building tolerance on mirtazapine in a couple monthes. so take only small doses like 15 or 30 mg which are the recommended doses and when you stop sleeping just stop the drug.

Remeron made me see things like walls moving didn't like it so I'm on trazadone now and it's working for me I take 150mg to 200mg a night and sleep fine and wake up just fine.
@BillSheley5 жыл бұрын
I just started taking Remeron about 2 months ago. Started at 7.5mg and am now up to 15mg. I notice that when I watch a car go by and then stop following the car, its like a dust cloud flys the other direction. Like the background is moving. Is this similiar to what you saw? Wondering if I should be alarmed. I really need it for sleep.

I saw this video looking for answers and you seem like you could possibly help. I have bad insomnia and have tried the prescription grade benadryl (i can't remember the name at the moment) and then tried temazepam (worked great but stopped working as usual with benzodiazepines), and now I'm on trazodone which made me want to sleep for two days the first night I took it on a 25mg dose but after taking it twice it doesn't work. It seems that I'm hitting dead ends to this insomnia thing and it's quite frustrating. My doctor wants to prescribe ambien next but i've read up on it and it doesn't seem so safe to me.
