This was a mandatory title bout. He was next in line. You cant anachronistically compare his legendary status today to his newly crowned head back then. He ended the career of a ton of people who earned the right to fight him. This was the European champ, whether you like it or not. SRL is my favorite fighter. He's my GOAT. But he didn't fight internet sensations nor would he if that was even a thing back in the day. That he dominated is beside the point. He earned his right to fight the champ.

@pluckinmageetar Жыл бұрын
@@raggedcritical You're being a little insincere, but I have no animus towards you. I laughed, sooo.... No, it wasn't a direct diss of Danny Green, but the comparison was made not only to (rightly) slam "Fake" Paul but also to suggest that Mr Green, or simply fighting him, was somehow comparable to a Jake Paul fight. Anyone watching the fight for the first time not knowing either fighter would never have made that comparison. Neither would I, as someone far older and wiser than the alphabet generations, who grew up in the fight game...and who saw this fight live, knowing full well the reputation of each. My only point was that Mr Green was eons better than Mr Paul and that he earned his thrashing at the hands of arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time. And he didn't become "a KZbin sensation" to do it but persevered through years of preparation and toil. Peace brother!🤘😎

Sugar ray Leonard speed was just something elite.
@SPIDERM0OSE2 ай бұрын
Everything about his boxing was elite. Ring IQ off the charts, heart, finishing instincts, stamina, speed, power, footwork, big game temperament. No matter who, no matter when or where, Leonard made it his fight, he did it to Duran, Benitez, Hearns, Hagler. In terms of talent Roy Jones is very close to him, but Roy didnt have Rays finishing instincts. I think you have to go back to Sugar Ray Robinson to find a fighter as complete as Leonard.

@@goodyeoman4534 Agreed, and don't forget he fought another great, Carlos Palomino, for the same world title three years earlier, and almost won. A shame he never quite reached the top title but it was a different era, when being ranked in the top ten was an achievement and a world title actually meant something, unlike today when all the meaningless titles are split and they're lucky if they fight just once or twice at most a year.

Kalule was a higher caliber than Green & a weight class higher. Hearns 1 was a war, only a great fighter could have won that. Maybe it was his most spectacular win but I cant look past his Hagler performance if we are ranking performance, Hagler was something else, to roll off the couch n do that to him was mind blowing. His Lalonde win was spectacular too but between it, the Kalule win & Green, Id say the Kalule win is his best, especially seeing as he was still the WW champ & defended that title after beating Kalule.
