In this film, we transform a Limited model Toyota Tundra with a standard TRD Off-Road package into a true TRD Pro Tundra. And then we put it to the test against a real TRD Pro.

+runNride You are correct that it is essentially a Toyota commercial. Still, we never said anything we wouldn't otherwise say about a Tundra or TRD Pro Tundra. Unfortunately some of the challenges don't look as exciting as they were in real life. That first hill climb was seriously steep and the off-road race really put the trucks to the test. Plus, I think you can tell that the section on the whoops was pretty serious stuff. 4:41

Well it does say sponsored by Toyota. So what's the big deal...the truck is bad arse and that's all that matters. Chevy, ford, dodge do the same but they always feel the need to down the competition and provide unfounded stats. I see ford commercials and they talk about f150 strong beds and towing capacity...dropping elephant sized lumber in the truck... then I see one on the road and its tail is dragging from a stack of bricks! Ask Ironman Stewart if TRD is for real!

Very little off-road here my stock 2016 Tundra 4x4 Limited couldn't handle. Okay, stock except for dealer swapping out the standard tires for BFG TA KO2 tires when I bought it. About the only part of the TRD Pro package I'd really want is the dual exhaust - just not enough to pay for it. I like the grill, wheels, and paint (Sunset Bronze) on my Limited far better.

I could a driven that course in my Colorado Z71 no problems stock as is! I know it I have! When I get my next one, a ZR2, then I'll be able to add some speed! But I did give a 👍thumb up! The Toyotas are nice trucks. Not much to look at but they do perform, just as long as you don't live in a rust/salt belt area!

But please not that we produced this five-part series to highlight some of the features of the new TRD Pro Tundra and didn't say anything we don't honestly believe. Have we learned some lessons here? Absolutely. The unfortunate thing is much of the off-roading is quite extreme, even if it doesn't appear so in the video. The first "challenge" is one seriously steep hill. The "whoops" were plenty exciting and that race between Josh and Steve was pushing these trucks to their limit.

I remember when TRD meant something. Similar to Mugen for Honda and Nismo for Nissan. it was about an extra level of performance. sure you could say that's what it still means on these trucks but come on people. TRD was for cars like the Supra, or MR2, or Celica. What has Toyota become? A me too car company with no vision or desire to break from the crowd. Oh and this was totally scripted. "ya know these tires are so grippy I didn't even need 4wd to get out of trouble" Sounds like it could have been uttered by the likes of Troy McClure.
