@Steve Sigler Are you glad you chose the Double cab over the Crewmax or was it just a financial decision? Asking because I'm considering the TRD Sport right now and am thinking about the Double cab over the Crewmax due to price and the storage compartment under the rear seat of the doublecab. Although I do like the more room in the rear of the crewmax.

@@dalephillips8250 I just saw your comment and wanted to chime in incase you wanted further info. I had a 2018 Crewmax Trd off road. And now I have a 2020 double cab sr5 sx package in black. I wish I picked the double cab the first time around. I really love it because it was sportier looking in my opinion, you get storage under back seat, its lighter, bigger bed. I drive most of the time alone and only have one kid. So I have plenty of room. Even when I have my buddies with me , it's more than enough in room. One thing that annoyed me more than anything was the small bed. I always had the tail gate open and had to make multiple trips. I'm not hating on the crew max. It was good to me but I got much more utility out of the double cab. The price had nothing to do with my choice. In fact, I would pay more for the double cab. I hope that helped

@@smj1250 Thanks for that input sir. It is just the type of feedback I'm looking for since you've experienced both. That seals it for me then I'm going to go with a double cab option. But let me ask you 1 more question....are you ok with the regular SX model over the TRD off road model you had? How is the ride better or worse without the TRD packages? Should I spend the extra for TRD packages?

Great review. Presented real nicely. I am a fan of these gas guzzling Toyota V8s. I am picking up a gently used (13K miles) 4x4 Platinum Tundra tomorrow 2/16/21 w/the running boards, sun roof, and matching tonneau cover (same smoky mesquite color as the 1794 you reviewed). It will sit very nicely next to the other Toyota gas guzzler I picked up last year that was discontinued. The 2020 Lexus GS F (V8 baby all the way - also dated by lux car standards). My intention is to never have to purchase another car in this life. So what if they are not the best with regards to fuel economy (hell no truck is GREAT on fuel economy). Get what you like as long as you can afford it and it makes you smile when you start it up.

That's a beauty. I have a 2018 SR5 double cab that I love! Remember, the towing and payload numbers you cited drop off on the 4 wheel drive. More like 9800 and 1620. That 4WD added weight subtracts directly from the payload. Still good though.

My dad only drives Tundras because they are just good trucks and you get what you pay for with this truck as opposed to a truck with new updates and shitty manufacturing that’s gone break down in about 8mths. Myself and tens of thousands of Aussies are wanting to Tundra. These utes sell nicely in smaller markets like USA, it will sell more in big markets like Australia, (just so everyone knows, utes (pick up trucks) sell 15% more in australia then in USA, based on per 1000 people). Just for one example, dodge brought its RAM to Australia via a converter, the company converting is at 24hr production and not able to keep with orders. Australians love utes.

@@robertausdemore7855 I am not sure about fuel over in USA, but here fuel can cost from $1.50 to $1.80+/L (about $6 or $7 per gal) for 98 oct. most people here have 2 cars/4x4/utes, and most common vehicles sold here end up using more fuel then a F250 or silverado or Tundra or titan, as we have to tow a lot and not just have it in the back of the ute like you guys in USA do. RAM converters are maxxed, Land cruiser cutters and extensions are maxxed out as well, and RAM's use less fuel than a hilux or ranger over here, and RAM's cost about 130k (90k USD) and same ute is only 45k over there.

Save your $$$ buy a older diesel pickup truck put it aside and only use it when you need to actually tow or haul something. Despite popular opinion that is what trucks are made for not as a DD. Hey. Nice review. First time I watched you and I like the way you described this truck. I had a 2014 Toyota Tundra TRD Off-road. Worst truck I have ever owned in about 30 years, 2 transmissions, 4 rather important modules. It towed very well, tracked nice and true behind a tow truck!! Ugghhh. I know I am not the usual Tundra owner, but I am not alone in having problems with a Tundra either. That being said, you are right, this truck, for now does fill a niche where enough luxury meets hard work for a price that’s no totally out of this world. I live in Alberta, Canada and these trucks are actually carrying some decent rebates. When they were clearing out the 2018s earlier this year, there some significant rebates. With those rebates you get a lot for the money. They just don’t stand up to towing a 7,000 lb trailer up the side of a mountain on true off road trails. The trailer is a tandem, axels flipped and 31” tall tires so it can make it. I sold the truck at 50,000 miles. Ironically my truck before was an F150 XLT FX4 4x4 5.0. Both trucks had the same height lifts and 35” tires. The F150 was traded in on the Tundra at just over 70,000 miles. I never had a single issue with the F150. Aside from the bad gas mileage (I was willing to accept) Toyota has a brutally expensive routine maintenance program. Especially when compared to the Ford. Being a farmer/rancher, I have bought and sold about 100 work and personal daily driver trucks aside from my collection of classic trucks. I know trucks, and my trucks actually see work, off-roading as part of the work, we live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and family fun. I think I will look at more of your reviews. If they are as good as this one, you will have another subscriber! Haha. Stay safe out there.

Sounds like you need to upgrade to at least a 3/4 ton.
@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck 5 жыл бұрын
Duane Henicke - I have a 1 ton and F450 as well. The group I off road with are all in 1/2 tons all lifted with 35” (ish) tires. We all haul similar trailers (5th wheels mostly) and have been doing so for quite a while. I was the only guy with a Toyota Tundra and the only guy to have those problems. The F150s are standing up best (not a lot of water and the mud is only 8-10” deep so no problems with the automatic hubs) then the Rams. The Chevy and GMC trucks are a little too light on power. I don’t have any actual brand loyalty. We all use 1/2 tons because a diesel 1 ton (or 3/4 ton) is way too heavy, especially in the front. We are not where we could have an accident and hurt someone etc. I used a 3/4 ton to pull the same trailer I pull up the mountain, on the highway because that is where I want to be safest for me, family, friends and other motorists. (Hate these 1/2 tons rated at 11,000 plus lbs towing, my opinion only) We quite literally take our trucks on a trail on our own that we cut out over about 2 years to a plateau that has amazing views and is very sheltered from our west winds. We pointed straight up the mountain and created a trail that climbs to about 6300 feet from about 4200 feet above sea level. It is rock and dirt, not quite extreme 4x4ing, but very challenging somewhat narrow with corners that barely accommodate approximately24 foot 5th wheel trailers behind extended cab full size trucks. It is kinda our thing and anywhere from 3-11 trucks and trailers do the climb. We all have enough $ to do the “Red Neck Super Off-roading Glamping Trip!” as we call it. I did it way more with an F150 XLT FX4 with about 5 inches of lift and 35s for over its 70,000 mile lifetime with me, the Tundra first crapped out at about 18,000 miles! Some guys have trucks doing this with over 100,000 miles on them. All 2011 or newer. It’s just something we did for ourselves to have fun, if it rains, it’s terrifying fun,,,,, but still fun. I have slowed down on how often I do it and switched over to an 18ft trailer instead of 5th wheel. It was basically off road ready from the dealership, but not really beefy enough we learned! Adventures, Eh? My new F150 is a XLT FX4 lifted 3 inches and on 35s with the 2.7 EcoBoost. I am floored at how well that thing does and it is better than the 5.0 trucks that are running out of breath that high up. Fastest we go is maybe 30 mph when actually off-road. So, bet you are sorry you asked Eh? Hahaha. It is a club thing, the 3/4 tons that we tried to use tended to slide off the trail due to the front end weight (dents, winches, more dents, adventures Eh?) and were really not that good. The 1/2 tons are strong enough, I just think I found a dent in the Tundra’s armour. Wonder how a Nissan would do! Have to convince someone else to try one when they buy their next truck. Hmmmmmm Take care and stay safe out there, Eh!

@@user-ez2bs3fq1x I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it they are fantastically build vehicles and they last a long time if that is important to you I know it is to me. My wife loves driving it also I can’t get her out of it. I ended up buying her A tundra of her own. I have owned Fords and Chevys and the tundra just feels better. And I can go on and on about how much they are mechanically better but I don’t want to bore you to death. Just know they will last a long time compared to the competition.

So Toyota has to offer significant discounts in order to sell a new 2019 Tundra? Usually big dealer discounts are offered to sell unsold 2018 models gathering dust on their lots. No wonder Toyota owners keep coming back since their dealers are practically giving new ones away just to boost numbers. Toyota Dealership: "We're offering $20,000 off the MSRP sticker price and guaranteed 0% financing for 5 years." Toyota fanboy: "I'll take it."

@@rlthomas69 Great for you, but my point is that these 2019 Tundras are most likely being sold well below their sticker price to move them off dealer lots. Other than blindly brand loyal Toyota fanboys, most fullsize pickup buyers will buy a Ford, Dodge Ram, or Chevy/GMC before a Tundra. I actually think the Tundra is a good looking truck but it lacks comparable 2019 technology that's in most new $50K vehicles these days.

This video is now 4 years old. With everything that has happened since then cars and trucks have become the least reliable in history with Ford leading the way in recalls. The F150 was just rated a don't buy from Consumer Reports. I have never seen that it shocked me. Think about it they actually said Don't buy an F 150 holy $h!t. The 2021 last v8 Tundra will go down in history as the last reliable 1/2 ton pick truck ever made. I believe cars and trucks will only get less reliable as we move toward electrification and leave behind the internal combustion engine. I grabbed a 2021 1794 TRD Off Road last year. My wife and i travel a lot and reliability is more important then spending a few extra bucks in fuel. I know I wont be spending any money at the dealership anytime soon. I had a 2019 Ford Raptor that developed cam phaser issues at 11,000 miles. The dealer was going to tear my engine apart and replace the phasers with the same defective parts that failed at 11,000 miles. I said no thanks dumped the truck and bought the Tundra. Like I said Tundra's will be highly sought after in the next few years.
