Installing a new MOSFET may not fix your problem. Other issues may be the cause of the malfunction, Check that the running belt moves freely, and nothing is binding, and all other connections are good and replace any other parts that may be suspect. I included a trouble shooting flow chart in this video reed through that and see if you have any other issues. Beond that I can't help without testing all other components.

Thanks for posting this video. We just bought a Treadmill from down the street for $80 which according to the previous owner was slipping. I noticed the motor belt was loose and figured I could fix it but very soon after adjusting the motor tension the unit died like the one in your video. I think the previous owners tried to solve the slipping by tensioning the running belt instead of the motor belt and once I adjusted the motor belt the whole assembly was far too tight and killed the board. We are going to do a service on the machine and I will try your fix on the board and I will update you! Thanks again!

Thanks, I followed your lead and after researching found my 250 N could be replaced by a large series of units the difference being able to handle higher amperage and heat dissipation. As you point out, a non lubed belt can cause the initial failure but so can heat. As a PC tech I can tell you the heatsink setup on Nordictrack is attempting to get to 3rd rate. I replaced a 250 with a 260. If course the Mosfet acts as a fuse to some degree if too much amperage is pulled and using a higher amperage Mosfet could cause other component failure. I use PC CPU heatsink paste with the thermal pad and get great results. I am planning on putting together a fixit kit, probably Mosfet, Diode, and capacitors in order to not only fix but upgrade the board for the long term. I am also planning on trying to add a PWM driven fan. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks! this fixed my treadmill! It was not easy to remove the mosfet for me. If i had a 3 tipped soldering iron, i think it would have been easier :) Every time i had one terminal liquid, I obviously couldn't wiggle it out since the others were still solid, but by the time i melted the other two, the first one had set up. I really needed a solder sucker, or whatever would help me remove the solder from each post separately... But that's my fault. Amazon had a two pack of Mosfets for $10.

just tried it this morning and it is broken again. I don't know if i did it. I was showing my daughter how to use it. I told her it shouldn't start in "6 mph" and assumed that was the case. But, it started fast for a split second and shut off. Now it does it every time i hit "start". So maybe i fried the MOSFET? or something else is wrong that is frying the MOSFET. I would have thought that the electronics would only allow a ramp up to 6 if you try to start at 6.

Great video with the best directions. What happens if you use a higher spec Mosfet such as Replacement and Equivalent of IRFP250N Transistor? The spec sheets say you can replace the IRFP250N with the IRFP250M, IRFP260M, IRFP260N, IRFP4227, IRFP4229, IRFP4232, IRFP4242, IRFP4332, IRFP4668, IRFP4768, IRFP90N20D, these go up to over 500watts heat distribution with a higher amperage rating. I would think you would avoid popping a Mosfet by someone just jumping on the board while it was running or very short spikes from your AC supply. These Mosfets the , 260N are constantly popping on treadmills while people are buying $250.00 replacement boards. Any suggestions on what supplier to use for parts?
@MrFixit1
@MrFixit1 Жыл бұрын
Just to be clear, I'm not an expert on treadmill speed controllers. Im just a humble mechanic lol I wouldn't know what supplier to recommend. I know using a higher rated MOSFET should work, as long as it physically will fit in place. Like using a 260n in place of a 250n. If the part that came off the board is an "N" type you wouldn't want to use a "P" type, as it will flow current in the wrong direction. As far as I understand. Using a higher amperage unit may caus over currant draw on up stream components when over loading the motor. The motor controller has fault management to reduce output power is the instance there is an overload but, it may have limitations.

However, now it turns on and continues running, but it only runs at full speed. When I replaced the Mosfe, I did not have another heat transfer pad to put on the back of it, so its back in there with out that. Could this be the issue, or do you think another part is out? The heat transfer pad delete will not cause the issue; you can use dielectric grease in its place. I would think another part is bad. Or maybe a bad solder joint in the MOSFET.

Got a multimeter and tested the rest of the batch (bought a pack of 5) and they range from 29 to 53 on the readings while the original shows as well as the one I replaced it with. Had accidently left the treadmill turned on but not moving and when I came back some time later the raised white bar (runs widthwise to the board) was very hot - is that normal? Also could I have a secondary issue that burned out the new mosfet as soon as I turned on the treadmill?

I've followed your steps & replaced the MOSFET. It does now run, but at top speed as soon as you press start. Are there different versions of the IRFP250N MOSFET? The full number string on the original is "IIRFP250N 442L B8 CA" and the replacement is "IRFP250N P033D 5105". @@GT-fh2ci I'm not an expert on treadmill speed controllers but yes it's possible another component is bad, maybe the big diode right next to the MOSFET is bad. If you can test this part I would start there. Also, possible the pulse width signal is not reaching the controller from the console. Check all connections from the console. Also possible the motor is bad causing a high current draw. Read through the troubleshooting manual I included in this video if you haven't already and see if anything relates to your issue.

Our treadmill stopped working today. It did function normally for around 1-2 minutes then the motor stopped, but the LCD panel worked and timers counted. I took it apart to clean it (I do this regularly) but the motor would not start. So, I researched and found your great video! This looks to be exactly my problem. I'll pickup a new MOSFET and try your fix. I've got nothing to lose :) Question: another video suggested that if the MOSFET failed, one should replace the SCR too. Is there a way to test it? Or should I pick up a new SCR while I am in the electronics store? Note: after I let it cool off and put the cover back on, it started working again. All I did was clean it, but after 2 minutes, the motor stopped again. I am guess it cooled off, then started, but failed as it heated up once I started it again. Any comments? Richard
@MrFixit1
@MrFixit1 11 күн бұрын
The motor has a thermal switch that will cut off power when the motor overheats. If the motor is getting hot this could be the reason. Something is causing the motor to get hot. either excessive load on the running belt or something else. If the motor will cool down and function again then the MOSFET is not the problem.

@@MrFixit1Thanks for the quick reply. Your right about if it started up again, it can't be the MOSFET. That makes total sense. I'lll try again tomorrow to make sure the motor doesn't start, that points to the MOSFET. On a side note, the elevation control stopped working a few years ago. Hi, I replaced the mosfet, and it still dies after 1 second of run time. However, it seems to start not at full power like before....Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.... Also, I used a battery and tested the motor directly, and it works. Also the large capacitor on the board is puffed up however it does have a rubber top....

Hi, great video. I am not an electronics guy, but you make this fix look pretty easy. It will certainly save a lot of $$. My Zordic Trac treadmill is doing exactly as your video shows, so I'm pretty certain I have the same problem. The only difference is my MOSFET numbers are slightly different than yours. Will it make a difference? Mine are IRFP25ON, I*R, 3371, 53, D3. I tried attaching a photo of mine to this comment, but KZbin would not allow me. If you have an email address I can send you the photo. Thanks, Brent

I have searched Amazon and Google and cannot find an exact match for my MOSFET. It has the numbers in my previous comment. Does anyone who is much smarter than me give me suggestion on where I can buy one and if another type will work. I find plenty with IRFP25ON, but they never match the other numbers/letters. Thanks in advance. Brent

I changed the mosfet, it was working until I stepped on. I changed the mosfet again, loosened and lubricated the belt. I then recalibrate the treadmill, had to lower the top speed to 10.5 ish. Everything seemed perfect, I got on and after 3 step the mosfet and what I think are diode's R29 and R30 all blew, diodes turned black. Any other ideas would be much appreciated, thank you for your video!!

Hi there, so I had the exact same problem, and replacing the mofset fixed it - but the bliss of victory died quickly, as the normal expected behaviour only lasted for a few starts, and then while testing by running on it the treadmill tripped out and stopped. Now it’s doing the exact same thing again… assuming another blown mofsat. any suggestions on what’s causing it to blow? Luckily my Amazon order delivered 10 mofsats.

A few more clues. When it did restart successfully the first few times, it overshot the speed at first and adjusted downwards (speed 5 launched up to 6 first then adjusted down to 5 after several seconds). It hadn’t done this before. Also on the first time the mofsat had failed, I recalled the treadmill ran up quite quickly, shut off, and then exhibited the failed mofsat behaviour in your video. Any help is appreciated!

If there are other damaged circuits on the board, I can't really help through Text. If you happened to order more than one MOSFET I would try replacing it again. It is possible the first part was bad out of the box, or a questionable solder connection failed and burnt-out the new part.

The MOSFET will burn out due to a few things. First is lack of Q.C. second is over currant draw from motor working too hard. Third is too much load on the running belt. i.e. lack of lubrication or improper adjustment. I'm not a treadmill expert but this is what I know.

Test the MOSFET If is shorted in the closed position this might cause this issue. The speed control board gets a pulse width modulated signal from the console so, the motor should not run without this signal. The MOSFET is just an on\off switch. if it is stuck on then the motor will run continuously. I'm not a treadmill expert so this is my best guess.

@MrFixit1
@MrFixit1 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasquintana4338 The cold could be the issue as to why it quit in the first place. If the motor has extra load i.e. cold belt dragging the motor down that would pop the MOSFET. Would need to check the diode to the right on the MOSFET and see if it also popped. Also the transistor to the far right. Condensation on the board could be an issue as well. A bad pulse signal from the console may also be the issue. The MOSFET is the most common part to fail.
