I saw your video at first but I thought maybe my treadmill doesn't have an earth-ground so I did that, but I am still getting shock when wearing a somewhat cushioned shoes. The only solution is don't wear shoes at all when using the treadmill. Today I tried your method, and it works. No more static discharge, thank you so much!!! 👍

haha, yeah, I did have to replace the string finally, I should put a short out on that. It went non-conductive after a few years and I started getting shocked again. Replaced the string and back to zero shocks.

ay man, will wearing no shoes really solve the static shock?

I find this video the same night I hook up my static wristband to my tread mill. I just attached an eyelet to a chassis bolt and clip my strap to the eyelet. I run with the strap on my wrist which isn’t a big deal. It works very well and the 1M resistor has always made me feel safe when I’m working with electronics. Another option might be to incorporate a very low amperage fast blow fuse. Say 100mA. The static wouldn’t blow the fuse but an electrical short would. Either way the strap works very well. I once got zapped in the ‘groin’ and it rebooted my console when I was 6K into a run....double whammy!

The homemade static strap has ben great. Not one zap since. Ow. I can't say I've been zapped in the groin on a treadmill glad I got this fix in place before that happened to me!

I got the shock on my manual treadmill !! Only 2 x AA battery are installed on the machine. Very annoying indeed. Do you think the treadmill mat will fix the problem?
@AllThingsOnePlace2 жыл бұрын
What happens with my machine is I end up not connected to ground or earth and therefore build up static electricity in my body. That has to be discharged through some path, in my case the string of the treadmill is modified to be conductive. I haven’t had much experience with a human powered one though so the static may be building by some other means. I don’t know if floating the whole machine on a mat would help or not.

Im not as smart as you, could I just buy a premade electric static discharge wrist band and attach it to the metal of my treadmill and have it work the same as your solution? I believe those wrist bands have a built in resistor so I shouldn’t get shocked in case of a short. Please give me your thoughts…thank you!! Love from Ontario, Canada

Yes, exactly. This is still working.

Use copper Tinsle, run under belt connected to both sides of the earthed metal chassis. Use eyed crimped terminals at both ends. Drill n tap chassis, put a machine screw through eyed termination, screw into the chassis. Do this both sides. The copper tinsle should be tight with the tinsle in contact with the bottom of running belt. Job done ✔️

Good alternative, thanks! I'm still using the threaded string, still working.

I’ve shocked myself so bad it’s shut my treadmill down completely! I thought I fried the computer part but I unplugged it and thank fully it came back on!!! But man I’m super scared to touch it at times to just adjust my incline or speed😢

Ouch! Barring actual problems with wiring that sounds like a lot of static electricity building up! The static electricity fix I put together for myself is still working great. You an also get premade static straps as another commenter posted. Making sure there is a resistor between you and the metal of the chassis is very important though. I am somewhat SHOCKED there isn't a commercial solution for this. I tried lots of other things from forums and this was the only thing that worked for me. Let me know what solution you have found and if it is working consistently.

I keep touching wall every few minutes to release the static electricity that is built up in my body while running in the treadmill.

Yeah, I don't have to do that anymore, I did have to replace the fabric wire once as it corroded open circuit.

Same as Michelle mentioned, i am having the same issue, i havs check motor winding and health of transformer... i am not sure if this is due to Capacitor issue. Its really v high static charge, and some time due to high static charge it get trip aswell. But some time keep running till 6km without getting tripped, but yes static charge stay there, i just try to use wooden stick to operate speed and incline, but its not easy some time to manage it🥲😑
@AllThingsOnePlace3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that sounds like a pretty severe case. It does still sound like your body is getting charged up so an anti static strap from yourself to the body of the treadmill (as I made) may totally solve your problem as it did mine. If there is any other issue, issues with building wiring, etc. then the static buildup fix will not help.
