Well it also shows that she probably knows Jim checked everything. Even outside of sabotage, stuff can break even after checking or he could’ve been adrift prior to him checking. There’s a dozen ways he could’ve been axed off naturally. So she refrained from any blaming due to that most likely.

the 'etherium' is a reference to the " Luminiferous aether": light is a wave, and so physicists imagined that it travelled through a medium, called the Aether. But all experiments to prove the aether's existence failed. this was before James Clerk Maxwell showed that light was a wave through electric and magnetic fields. Einstein proposed that space-time itself could be thought of as the aether: a medium through which all things move Dr Doppler, a reference to the doppler effect James 'Pleiades' Hawkins, a reference to a group of stars The film was made by nerds of the highest order

The way I see it, Jims plot line is almost like the time line of the creation of this movie. Treasure Planet (Jim) was this idea that the directors saw as a passion project but many felt it wouldn't work. Disney (Jim's Dad) dropped the ball when it came to caring for the movie and walked away leaving it to fend for itself at the box office. We the audience (Silver) who were lucky to see the movie in theaters were captivated by this movie and saw its potential and feel like this movie deserves and can do so much more. Either way this is my favorite Disney movie and I'm so glad to see reactors watching this movie

Its not really explained well in the movie, but in this universe their version of space has breathable air. There was actually a sequel written for this movie. Since Disney abandoned it though (or intentionally hamstringed it in the box office depending on who you talk to) it was never made. The basic plot of the film was adapted into a RTS game called "Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon." Here's a copy of the story element of the game: Five years after the events of Treasure Planet, Jim Hawkins graduates from the Royal Navy Academy and becomes commander of an Imperial patrol ship. As Jim patrols various sectors of the Etherium, Her Majesty's Empire is in the process of negotiating peace with the Procyons, raccoon-like warriors who have been at war with the Empire for centuries. They send a diplomatic fleet under the command of Procyon diplomat Evar to Parliament, the centre of government and home of the Queen, for the peace talks. However, bizarre and almost unstoppable iron ships nicknamed Ironclads wreak havoc in Imperial territory, and pirate raids are a constant. During his patrols, Jim discovers his old friend Long John Silver's flagship is in command of the pirates aiding the Ironclads. After missing out on a chance to join the fleet scouring the Frontier for Ironclads, Jim is sent to investigate Ironclad activity after finding one apparently lost deep in Empire territory. After locating and destroying an Ironclad base hidden in a nebula, he discovers the Ironclads are Procyon vessels, meant to draw the Navy fleets to the Frontier, allowing the "Diplomatic" Fleet to kidnap the Queen unhindered. Jim is ordered to warn the Empire of the Procyon trap. However, they are soon intercepted by Silver's pirate fleet. Jim pursues Silver to a pirate fortress, where he discovers two identical command ships, both commanded by a Silver. Jim learns that Silver was captured by a robot doppelgänger, who has been aiding the Procyons in his name. Together, they destroy the false Silver. Silver regains command of his fleet, and, together with Jim's fleet, rush back to Parliament to stop the Procyons. They arrive at Parliament, only to find the Procyons have already sprung their trap. A massive battle ensues, ultimately resulting in the Procyons' defeat. An enraged Evar attempts to take Jim down with him by ramming his ship, but Silver's badly damaged ship arrives. He rams Evar's flagship, and both ships are destroyed. The Procyons are forced into harsh peace terms thanks to their treachery, and the Empire is saved. Silver is presumed dead, and receives a posthumous pardon and knighthood. However, Jim believes that Silver survived and is out there somewhere gathering a new fleet
@JenamDrag0n
@JenamDrag0n 2 жыл бұрын
No, the plot of the planned sequel and the plot of the game were completely different. The sequel was supposed to take place while Jim was in the Academy and about retrieving a stolen ship called the Centurion. It had nothing to do with the Procyons.

Edit: This movie uses a unique blend of 2D animation, CGI, and Deep-Canvas animation (which produces the 3D tunnel-vision effect, they used a lot of it for the vine-swinging/tree-surfing scenes in Tarzan), which makes it one of the more expensive 2D movies they ever produced.

Many of the Disney video tapes I owned as a kid had the treasure planet trailer on them. It was the kind of film I was always aware of but I was in my early-mid teens when I finally got to see it. I’ll be honest, the trailer didn’t really appeal to me. It didn’t explain the story or even the characters and felt more like a montage of cool action scenes. It was only when I watched a random KZbin playlist of somebody’s favourite Disney songs that i discovered ‘I’m still here’ with Jim and Silver bonding, and I was sold 🥺❤️ I loved their dynamic and the character growth. I got the movie for my birthday that same year (along with the goofy movie) and I completely fell in love with it. My younger sisters thoroughly enjoyed it too but I think they were annoyed with my obsession. 😄

So as a kid I only ever saw bits and pieces of it like one time when it came on Disney channel (some of the aliens creeped me out and I changed the channel. I regretted it later 😑) or when I came across scenes on KZbin. I got really into it at the time and it even inspired certain aspects of my own characters and stories. It's subtle but you actually see Jim literally grows through the film. At the start he is slightly shorter than his mom, then at the end when he reunites with his mom they're at the same height and at the very end when he gratiuated the Academy he is taller than her, to show the passage of time in the film. Movies rarely shows that, either very short amount of time passes so kids and teens (especially) stays the same, or there're time leaps from kid to teen or adulthood.

Morph is aside from being designed as the cute character to this picture and the symbolism of the bond between Jim and John SIlver, he's a sci-fi alien version of a parrot since parrots are associated with pirates and sailors. After all, Morph doesn't just mimic people by morphing into them, he does repeat their words like parrots do. By the way, the Pokémon you were thinking of is Ditto, that one is a slimey Pokémon that can transform temporarily into the opponent and use their moves.

14:30 To answer that question, look no further than the book narration in the first 20 seconds of the movie. The setting of Treasure Planet takes place in a layer of space called the “Etherium”; a stable (albeit science fictional) atmosphere that stretches between stars or even between multiple galaxies. This allows life to flourish between the stars and planets, such as the whales you see during the launch, and it even provides unique weather conditions like the “waves” of the black hole later in Beyond this layer of space is an empty airless void akin to what we possess. To my understanding, this is based on a early/medieval European depiction of space.

"He's like Anakin Skywalker." Me: Yeah, except Jim doesn't turn out to be a cringey, angsty disappointment. And, as for Long John Silver, he turned the treasure he got from Treasure Planet to start his own seafood restaurant chain on Earth with his name on it. Not bad.

Lol. Anakin is pretty cool actually if you take into account Clone Wars and his comic appearances, the movies alone don't do him justice, they're more complementary

Wow first Brother Bear, and now Treasure Planet! You’re spoiling me with my all-time Disney favorites! Keep up the good work. I hope you do bring some amount of anime content, or maybe something like Gravity Falls, to KZbin someday. But I’ll watch whatever you put out haha

You're right, this is a combination of 3d cgi with handdrawn 2d, one of a few movies to actually pull it off the hybrid animation impressively. This is quite the passion project and it shows, love the unapologetic creativity on display for such an unforgettable trip.

Treasure Planet, all with Lion King, Zootopia, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and a few others are some of my favorite Disney animated films. Now, even though the couple following recommendations aren’t set in space, I would still recommend Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and the live-action Muppet Treasure Island. Anyway, I surprisingly never caught on, until maybe a few years ago, that RLS in the RLS Legacy was an abbreviation for Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of the Treasure Island novel. Oh well! So, between the sci-fi underwater film, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and the sci-go space film, Treasure Planet, I would say that Treasure Planet is better, as I felt like most of the characters were a little more fleshed out, the pacing was a little better, and I thought that it had more emotional moments. The only thing that I would say that I liked a little better about Atlantis: The Lost Empire would be that that one had more named side characters. Another reason that Treasure Planet is one of my favorites is that I loved moments like Jim, and Silver’s last heartfelt bonding moment near the end. Also, how could one not appreciate the fact that this was one of the rare to few times where a Disney villain redeems himself? Oh, and the score by James Newton Howard makes this film even more worthwhile. One more thing that I would like to mention is that I created quite a few memories with this film when I was younger, including drawing B.E.N., and Long John Silver while having dinner at Macaroni Grill of all places. Well, thanks for reviewing this film once again! Oh, and looking forward to seeing you cover films like Titan A.E. fairly soon, as well as see you reviewing the Shrek franchise. Oh, and there are five Pirates Of The Caribbean films thus far.

I think those (even the "need-a-realistic-explanation" people like myself) who've read or seen movie adaptations of the book Treasure Island feel they don't need the explain to the technology that make the space elements and technology in Treasure Planet similar to the original in creative and stunning ways! By far my favourite movie adaptation and wish more people knew about it!!!

So this movie’s physics functions on the old sci-fi concept of the ‘aether’. This is the idea that only really light things could be in space, like air, so between planets was air. Very small moons wouldn’t be able to attract large things like people, but they would have air. Some people would even write fiction where some aliens were like spiders and would build webs in asteroid belts. The aether was an amazing idea, it’s such a shame that it isn’t real.

This was my favorite Disney movie as a kid (though I suppose Star Wars is now Disney LOL). I think the character arc of Jim is one of the best examples of a coming of age story for a delinquent style character as well as showing how important a role model can be. There is a lot of layers to that relationship, and it's awesome to see how Silver and Jim come out much better people because of it.

When you get pulled into a black hole long story short it pulls you apart particle by particle through spaghettification. Here, as they’re usually portrayed in kids movies, they made the black hole a wormhole. Or I guess in the case of a pirate movie, a whirlpool

They breathe in space because they are in the etherium. Or rather, it’s space with air and weather. Hence why they use solar sails. Purely fictional obviously. And BOY do they go through the effort of making it work.

25:38 if you go down the Disney/other animated show rabbit hole there’s a crossover of Sinbad from Dreamworks being related to Jim. Sometimes its as a brother, others as a father. Though some fans have sinbad as an older version of Jim. This movie is great between the blend of CGI and 2d, not a romance based one, and the focused on the bond between a foster father and son.

This is a wonderful movie, I grew up watching it every week or so and the only reason we had it is because my sister loved the music, we unfortunately never saw it in theaters, but I was too young anyway. I always loved the movie but didn't understand it until more recently, I watched it less after I was in my teens but now I get how relatable and down to Earth the story is (ironically). Still, the song I'm still here is something I listen to all the time even now and my favorite part growing up (and still is) Jim on his solar board at the beginning, that part is still awesome to me even in my 20s😅 Just also wanted to mention that you were spot on, they actually were supposed to make a second one and they already had about half of the storyboards written out as this was coming out, but something else came out at the same time and this movie unfortunately didn't do well enough, so they shelved the sequel. But yeah, it was apparently supposed to be Jim's ship and possible love interest/rival, his dad was supposed to be a part of it in some way, and Mr. Silver was apparently supposed to be in it as well, but I don't remember much about that last part
