I would love if they could produce a program that shows us or explains to us clearly how they were able to make these terra-cotta soldiers because Clay would’ve had to of come from a number of different places and mixing it and then the fact that they fired this in kilns they were woodfired and I know that the kilns went uphill side and temperatures varied but you think they didn’t have great distortion to the clay figures is amazing I would love to learn more about this
@andycheng90663 жыл бұрын
The clay used to mold the terracotta warriors is a "yellow earth" sourced from around the burial sites. Yellow earth is easy to obtain, and was appropriate due to its adhesive quality. The earth was screened and ground to remove impurities and to ensure it was fine and pure. A certain amount of white grit containing quartz sand, mica and feldspar was later added, strengthening its mechanical properties The clay was then sent to various workshops throughout the empire, involving many teams Team 1 coiled the clay to shape the feet and legs, first starting with the foot plates. The feet were next, followed by the two legs and short pants Team 2 coiled the clay to shape the arms and hands Team 3 created the heads, by molding the front and back sides of the head roughly, glued them together, and then applied several layers of mud to form the distinctive and individual facial shapes Team 4 then coiled the clay into the shape of a body, placing a sackcloth inside and pounding it until the desired shape was formed. Intricate details were then drawn by hand, and the torso was placed onto the legs The headless clay figures were then fired in a 2000 degree wood fired kiln facing upside down so they wouldn’t topple over; the hands and head were fired separately as well After firing, the clay was dried in cool shade When this was done, the heads, arms and hands are attached to the headless body, and are painted and arranged

During the revolt that followed the power vacuum his death created the victor Yu dug access shafts all over the site and set it on fire. The fires were recorded as burning for 3 months. Hopefully the depth of the main chamber has protected it but the presence of Mercury in the soil tends to suggest that it collapsed allowing the Mercury to be absorbed by the soil. Tragic, you can only imagine how magnificent it was, its contents would have been the very best that Chinese craftsmen could make. Just to see the black pearl would be a joy for me.

There's no point in trying to put a price tag on the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huangdi. For one thing, we can't even begin to imagine what's actually inside. The only account we have is Sima Qian's, and it's debatable how truthful his account is, given that it was written over one hundred years after the emperor's death. Secondly, the historical and cultural significance of this site to the Chinese people cannot be measured.

Um, the monetary value of what its equal to today doesnt mean anything in relation to monetary values back in 200bc. To be frank, for all we know, resources could have been abundant and give and take of monetary funds may not have been as influenced back then as it is today, in our selfish 21st century civilisation. You even mentioned that we dont know the wealth of the emperor, which means it nay not have been a true thing of existence, but rather the emperor was served by the people in recognition of his greatness, and in exchange, the people under the Emperor were treated on equal terms. Expressing the nodern day cost of construction for the GW of China and cost of rare coins means nothing back in 200bc. The Mauseluem of the Emperor itself is of real question. Why did he create something so grand and large, that took so many resources, if only to write himself into history? It doesnt seem feasable, especially when they decided to hide it with natural fauna. This building seems similiar to what Egyptians did. They also built tombs and created ornaments etc to "protect" them in the after life and take with them to the after world. I wonder what the true meaning of all this is. Different parts of the world doing similar things during a time where lack of communication between continents was evident. I think we should wonder more about why this would be necessary for a dead man. Is there something more to life and this world than what we currently know?
