However, it took me about 6 months to fully get over their passing; it's only that I waited four years because I also lost both of my parents. I would have gotten my new fur babies sooner, however losing my babies and my parents relatively close together sent me into a very deep depression. Once I was over the depression, then I got my new fur babies. May I say now that we are one big happy family. I love my fur babies so much, we are inseparable. 🐱🐈🐾🐾🐾🐾♥️♥️

I'll add a 7th situation to use the jackpot treat (and two reasons why you should try to make it something thin and liquidy like Churu tubes, if you can influence your cat's choice at all): illness or injury Example #1: my cat is sick and has labored breathing right now (vet appt in the morning, don't worry). She had to be coaxed into 3 out of 4 meals today, and refused the fourth. She won't even take broth, so it's not just about avoiding solids, she just WILL NOT EAT... except for tubes of Churu. She is keyed into that specific treat as The Best Thing That Exists. Under normal circumstances, she loses her mind if she just hears us open the cat-proof jar where we keep them. Now, even when she's exhausted and has no appetite or sense of smell and everything aches, her automatic excitement when she sees the treat coming is enough to get her to perk up and eat two back-to-back, which gets a few calories and some much-needed hydration into her, and also restores her morale for a bit. Since it's a real thin puree, she can swallow it even with her sore throat. Example #2: this spring, we were at a vet clinic and sharing the waiting room with a woman who'd found her cat with a big injury on one back leg, probably an animal attack. She'd brought him to the vet clinic, but because it's literally the only vet with emergency walk-ins on weekends in this half of the state, they're swamped and have 3-5 hour waits. She'd driven miles and then been sitting for hours with her poor cat lying on a towel in a cardboard box, barely responsive, unable to move enough to eat or drink and not interested in food or water anyway. She was near tears and clearly bracing for the worst. We had multiple backup tubes of Churu with us, because we use them to distract from fear/discomfort in the car and in the vet's office. We asked the lady if she would like to offer one to her cat, since he wouldn't have to move at all to eat it. She didn't think anything would happen, but gave it a shot. It took him a sec to focus and react once she held the open tube in front of his nose, but after a couple weak sniffs, he started to sloooowly lap it up. It was good for the cat, but it was also the glimmer of hope that the owner desperately needed. Even if there was nothing she could do and she might just be waiting for the vet to recommend euthanasia, she could at least give him something nice. He finished the whole thing over the next few minutes, and about 20 minutes later, they were called back. (We ran into her again when we were checking out, and the news was good-the vet expected him to pull through and recover.)

@ccvjd39093 жыл бұрын
If the cat is that violent then it may just be a lost cause. You may have to actually intimidate and be aggressive with that terrible cat . If you're unable to train your overly aggressive cat and you're training it properly and it's still being aggressive, then you should just put it down. My cat was very agressive as a kitten. Just a little bit of giving back a lil guff let it know when it was going to far, now he's gentle as an adult. I met a cat at a person's house that would literally attempt to trap you in a room and attack you viciously , even if you tryed to use non aggressive cat body language. This thing was seriously dangerous and took the whole tip of a sock off in one swipe from under a door. That cat is even aggressive to its owners. It's so far gone and dominant that you would literally have to kill it if it attacked you .

I think the general idea I collect from watching these videos is identify what piss them off (eg: neighbor cat keep walking near the window or loud car passing around, moving house, other animal/person), identify where they are pissed off to see if something offending them there, check if they are actually in pain, and playtime everyday. If all done for two weeks and no improvements, the cat might have mental issue and need some calming medicine. JG channel helps to find out in depth info, but if you hasn't, also check cats from hell in case you find similar case like yours. This is assuming the cat isn't wild breed or born stray, those afaik are harder. I hope this comment help you finding those videos , good luck with the cat! :)

@Donteatacowman3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yikes @ ccv jd. I know you're probably not taking our random advice / may already know buuuuut if you want to keep reading, here's me channeling JG: First thing to do is get the cat thoroughly checked out by a vet. Maybe you did that when he was neutered, but there may have been other issues the vet was not looking for at the time. Even if it's not medical, the vet may suggest the next steps for behavioral interventions. Next - hone in on whether it's play or real aggression. When he's getting your legs, are his ears perked up, does he seem alert, does he jump around and swipe at you? That's play, and Jackson's remedy is the "hunt, catch, kill, eat, groom, sleep" method. That's when you structure the cat's play/food/sleep cycle to wear them out, reward them with food, let 'em rest. But alternatively, if he's slinking around the house, ears flat against his skull, darting around, hiding all the time, hissing or yowling at you? That's actual aggression, and some of it may never go away if he wasn't raised with humans. But you can help the situation, like Amethyst Orchard mentioned, by changing the housing environment to make the cat more comfortable (or give him "mojo".) That includes- removing threats to his territory, eg separating him from other animals; giving him places to climb up or explore that are safe, so he can get used to the home without needing to interact yet; considering the use of pheromone diffusers made for cats; giving him specially-designated "scent soakers," like a specific cat bed or fleece blanket, so he can start smelling himself around his new home. Avoid other strong scents in the home, like essential oil diffusers, which are bad for cats. Some cats really do need kitty Prozac but more often, it's an issue of their home not adjusting to the cat's needs yet. I have gone to the ER thanks to handling a cat who was not comfy yet (and it was my mistake, I knew he didn't want to be picked up but I needed to move him and didn't take the time to do it a slower way)... so in my opinion, if all you need are bandaids, the cat is probably not an aggressive evil cat who's a lost cause :P (That cat is now much more comfortable and sweet. I still keep my distance if he looks annoyed lol.)

If your cat's jackpot is a tube treat, get some reusable oral syringes, and you can stretch one out from about 3 minutes to almost 15 minutes. Load a syringe up with a tube treat and use it for all things vet-related. Your cat's nervous in the car? Poke the syringe through a gap in the carrier and slowly dispense it, keeping your cat fixated and content all the way there (use caution if your cat is prone to car-sickness). Use it inside the vet's office, too - my cat DOES NOT NOTICE vaccines if she has a syringe treat in her face. If your cat has a liquid medication, put some treat in the syringe, then the medication, then more treat after that. Right now we're using them to distract a 9 month old kitten while she gets ointment in her eye 3x/day (one person handles the treat, the other person handles the medication), and it works shockingly well. Also, if your cat still likes them cold, you can feed part of the treat, put the syringe in the fridge, and use the rest later in the day. I wouldn't keep one open for more than about a day, but this way you can use it for multiple training sessions/distractions/etc.

Try indulging him when he asks by using a treat dispenser toy. Often cats beg for food because they're bored, so offering food as play will help to satisfy his "hunt, catch, kill, eat" instincts. They sell a few at pet stores but there are also nice ones you can find online. Puzzle feeders are good too. You could also offer him every meal (if you give dry food) in "Doc and Phoebe's Indoor Hunting Cat Feeder."

Curious on how it's going. We've reached the 6 month mark but had to regress back to feeding by the door after getting all the way to joint play time with no barriers.

Once I started feeding my cat a high magnesium content dry food, all his skin issues went away to the point that I told the Vet if you keep recommending this, you'll put yourself out of business. Since then, I've fed all my cats this type of food from the get go. It's called CD and worth a try.

I’m so happy I saw this video. My cat loves those soft treats. And I save it one a day to reward him. I let him out in the back yard with me and when he tries to aim at a fence I speak softly to him singing nooooo that’s scary over there for some reason he listens. And if I see him stalk a bird in a tree in the yard again I say “there’s no need you’re well fed come on” and it’s weird but he listens. So when our time in the garden is up. I bring out his treat and he melts. He licks it from my finger then I coax him to the enclosure again and I put the rest in his bowl. He’s then satisfied. I’m so glad it’s ok to bribe him. Thank you Jackson 😻

Thank you so much for your videos. I want to register my cat bear as an emotional sport pet for myself. This will enrich both our lives. With that I know there is some training that she needs further than I know how to do on my own, like leash training And introducing her to other animals and people and your videos will be a huge help in that.

Hi Jackson Galaxy, I love the advice you give and it has been extremely helpful. A video on how to create a rhythm and ritual for our cats will be helpful as even though I have transitioned my card from free feeding to fixed times she still manages to change her rhythm everyday of eating, sleeping etc and now she remains awake for most of the night. Much appreciation all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦

I make my cats sit for treats and they gotta give me a “boop” too. I do free feed my cats but very, very little dry food just so they know that the wet food is a treat. My cats listen when I tell them to go drink water after treats too, and they do. 🥰🐈⬛🐈

Hi, Jackson. Thank you for all you do for cats and their parents. I remember when you helped a very young boy's cat who became so fearful. You taught him how to be a little 'Cat Daddy'. Anyway I digressed. I belong to two Facebook groups. They are 1. Weirdo Cat Lovers of Cleveland and 2. Weirdo Dog Lovers of Cleveland. Anyway, when people have questions, which would be too long to answer, I go to KZbin, pull up a video, and share it with the person in the group who asked the question. Again, thank you for all that you do for all of us.

We had a cat years ago that responded to my whistle, discovered by accident. Now, I am teaching my newer cat to respond to this. I barely CAN whistle, but they hear it. The older cat was funny, since the more I continued to whistle, the closer she came as if by magnet.

I haven't used treats for training yet, but my girl Athena and I have a nightly treat ritual at 9. I swear she has a clock in her brain, because she always knows when it's time and goes nuts when I get the treats. I give her a small handful of crunchies, placing one in my open hand at a time and giving her the last one in my other hand so she knows that's the last one. We have a great time.
@TraceyMush3 жыл бұрын
Switching the hand is an excellent cue - cats like knowing what to expect. l have a time for treats as well but l throw them - one at a time - for her to catch, or run after. lt's more like catching prey.

I have three kitties (two sibs, bro & sis) and 1 feral (boy) born in my shed along with his two sisters. The brother (BoBo) and sister (Sissy) I got at 6 weeks old. The feral boy (Jackson) came into the house at about 3 to 4 months old. BoBo and Sissy I gave treats to when they started eating dry food along with their wet food. They take it from my hand and I can place it in their mouths. Jackson, however, I have to throw for him and he "chases" it and eats it. I can't seem to get him to let me put it in his mouth. He will eat treats out of my open palms, though. I now have to place the treats into Sissy's mouth as she lounges on the floor at my feet. BoBo takes it either way, from my hand or thrown, like Jackson does. I tell my two kitties, "look at Jackson. This is a kitty that knew hunger. You two, who have NEVER knew a day of hunger in your life expect me to drop your treats into your mouth like you're some pampered pasha." Of course, I'M the one who is being "trained" here.

Hadn’t seen this video before I had to introduce my little singleton foster kitten to his new big sister (of about 3 weeks😉). I used his Nulo treats to get them together without his hissing, it worked fantastic! Now they snuggle all the time curled up together. Wish I had seen it earlier, but now I know I did the right thing and that makes me feel a whole bunch better. Thanks Jackson! Oh and btw that little kitten loved your videos he would watch yours and “the kitten lady’s" videos all the way through, lol. Thanks for that too.

For my boy, the jackpot treats are dried minnows or liver bits. The Trader Joe's turkey treats (yeah, probably considered "junky"), I use those for getting him to run after them when I toss them. He's pretty lazy, so it gets him moving.
@lexxivexx3 жыл бұрын
My food driven boy will eat the minnows, loves freeze dried chicken, but freeze dried tuna and crab are the BIG TIME treat. They look, feel and sound like packing peanuts... not at all appetizing to my human 👀. Mostly air tho, so at least it's less calories for him? 🤣🤷♀️

❤Such a good video....many thanks! Bribery is just a word, from my perspective and here's why. 😊 When my Husband deployed, he always brought me something when he came home safe (Thank GOD!). Was the bubblegum from Oman better than American bubblegum? No, Sir...but it did mean so much to me bcuz it meant he thought of me. ❤ So I prefer the word thoughtfulness rather than bribery. Our kitties are excited when they get 'cat go-gurt' / Churu and anything that knits our hearts together 💕 is a good thing! Thanks again!

I’d love a short video about proper sizing/fit and placement of collars and harnesses for my kitty. She’s tiny but fully grown and I have a hard time finding a harness that fits her and she’s still wearing her kitten collar.

I had no idea you made these videos, bravo 👏, you really are amazing to share these videos and help us less educated pet owners. I am deployed and going home soon. To the cat I started to bond with because my brother abandoned him. My concern is he won’t want to deal with me when I get home. He hasn’t bonded with either of my parents either while I’ve been gone. Can you give me a way to show him he can trust me?

Oh my god I found the treats that work! I posted on a previous video about how I tried at least 100 different ones… I went back to that bag of denied treats… maybe she was full. All the other times. Jackson, Man....you're a magician with a guitar! If not for your advice, we would be feeding Maxie with a bottomless dry food bowl and junky cat cracks. Buffet style - you coined that phrase and it is soooo true! Speaking of Maxie's feeding patterns, she's a "Buffet style" kinda girl! She will eat her wet food whenever she wants and slowly, never all at once.

I think it depends from cat to cat. Mine always have dry food available, but they always go to eat at certain times. In addition, they know when wet food will be served and then as if they are saving for that food and will not touch dry food.

I watch vancouver vet and he explains except if the cat have traumatic experience with starvation, they know how to self-regulate on food when they get a little fatter. But also, from cat from hell video I learn that cat that being fed too much carb would keep eating because they are looking for the protein.
@FlerkenCats3 жыл бұрын
@@RoseDragoness I believe that they can self regulate on food, but I am not an expert for cats and I am just saying based on my own experience. I weigh my cats regularly and for everything that I'm not sure I talk with the vet.
