No one wants to get injured and mostly we do our very best to avoid it at all costs but… sometimes we can push things too far! That’s what happened to me and now I’m paying the price!
Sciatica and knee pain, it’s a double whammy!
This video takes you along with me as I attempt to deal with an overuse/ impact injury that has slowed down my daily life.
What advice is out there for treatment? Should we ask Dt Google or go to a professional? What therapies are available?
Watch and see how I’m coping. I’m not back to 100% yet, but I’m working on it!
Thanks so much for tuning in, I appreciate all of you.
Nancy xo

Loved this video! Jacked up my knee 2 weeeks ago, which was the knee i had 3 major surgeries on in the early 80's. Im sure i broke the scar tissue and am hoping I didnt do any damage to what was repaired in the 80's. Two weeks later and my knee is looking like a knee. The 1st 4 days after my fall i couldn't put weight on that knee and it was really swollen too. I moved in with my mom almost 5 years ago to take care of her and my knee has made things very challenging to say the least. Unfortunately, i can't afford a mri to see if there's soft tissue damage and even if there is I can't get surgery and be unable to take care of my mom. So, I'm resting my knee as much as i can and I think I've become a big ole ice bag from icing so much. Anywho, guess time will tell but i am hoping for the best, no damage! Thank you again for posting this video!

I fractured my right femur in December was not discharged from a rehab facility until the last week of January. Then had a follow up with an orthopedic surgeon in February and had to have a rod inserted because I also have severe osteoporosis and the bone was not healing straight .All the while having to be non weight bearing and my right leg was in a mobilizer to keep the knee from flexing. Just was finally approved for physical therapy through insurance .I have lost the ability to flex my knee past 90 degrees or straighten it fully. This last week I was given the okay to finally put weight on my right leg.Having been non weight bearing I have plantar fasciitis now too!!All this on top of my multiple spinal compression fractures and scoliosis has really gotten me down and worried I will never recover. At least you are pretty much mobile on your own. Doctor referral for physical therapy was the only thing that helped my sciatica issues years ago. Four months of doing practically nothing is making me crazy!!

Thank you for sharing your journey throughout your knee pain and OTF workouts. I loved going to OTF. I ultimately cancelled my membership once I found out that I had the beginnings of arthritis in my left ankle. I go to the workout room at my apt complex for 20-30 min daily. I do squats, heel raises, supported lungs, incline walking, etc. something is better than nothing. Lately I've been using the cable machine too. Take care.

I wish you speedy recovery! I am dealing with my right hip/glute/knee for more than six months now( I did an MRI, I visited several neurologists and physiotherapists, some massage therapists literally tortured me and left my back and buttocks looking like I was a corpse found in the river Thames. And I still have this pain. Sometimes more sometimes less. I try to use lighter weights especially for the unilateral moves that put too much strain on one side like lunges, step ups etc. I concentrate on my upper body more. Some specialists say that this hip problem is often caused by weak gluteus medius so your clam exercise is great. You can even make it harder by doing it in a side plank position - so both your hips in the air. Squat University have a video on this subject. But I don't know if these exercises will completely eliminate the problem for me as well. So I wish us both to be cured and be able to do crazy burpees in no time.

A couple of years ago I fell on my tailbone and definitely had to scale back a bit! Did a careful heating/icing regimen. Then I was able to focus on other parts of my body and keep mobile, which I think helped a lot. Luckily I recovered in about a month or so and built my lower body strength back up. I actually didn’t mind the setback as I became more appreciative of what I was able to do than normal times where I tend to be hard on myself.

Good thing you slowed down and are taking care of the issues...I'm sure you will 100% be back to work out Mama stage real soon. When the weather gets warmer that will help. I use a Hypervolt massage gizmo by Hyperice that seems to work after a workout. My friend is a professional dancer that loves it on her legs, me too :)

Hi Nancy 🤗 hope you feel better soon. I’m in a similar situation as you. I have snapping hip syndrome which doesn’t cause any pain but is quite disconcerting. It’s my left leg that is affected. I too have gone to see a chiropractor and now staring physiotherapy. We are trying some acupuncture as well as some strengthening and stretching. I am hopeful that it will get sorted out. Good point about focusing on what you can still do. I have also focused on my upper body and fine tuning my eating as well as riding my bike at a more leisurely pace. I’m 60 and yes - it takes longer to recover- patience! 😊

Hi Jaycee! I’m wondering if it’s one of those things that if you get it once you keep doing something that irritates it again? I’m trying to build up my “weak” area. I have to say that I’m very hesitant to throw myself back into it, I’m afraid to re-injure it! ❤

@@MamaTenny Figuring out your weak points and strengthening those muscles is going to help reduce injuring yourself again Continue physical therapy at home For me I injured my knee initially from box jumps and then running downhill As a marathon runner and lifting heavy I’m always hurting I admit I don’t run or lift smart I’m 24 years old and my knees are constantly throbbing I have sort of accepted the pain as apart of me Currently I’m elevating and icing my knees Please don’t stop! Slow down and come back stronger

The longer you let a ruptured scatica disk go the more inflamed it becomes. Search out an Orthopedic doctor and get treated properly as soon as possible. Massage and red light won't cure it and more exercise won't either. Been there and done that one. If you continue doing what you are doing you will more than likely end up needing surgery on your back to alleviate the ruptured disks for the continued pain. Best wishes for your recovery.

I totally agree, made the same mistakes. The only thing that fixed it was physical therapy after seeing an Orthopedic doctor.

Consider wearing a knee sleeve on the other knee as well. This was both knees are treated equally so we don't do any overcompensating.
