I liked how Dr. Grande was able to come up with objectives to meet his client's goals while also providing her information about her behaviors and thought process. This provided her with the awareness she needed to collaboratively set realistic goals and objectives to meet these goals. Very useful!

I always like how Dr. Grande is very detailed with his clients and makes sure that the client understands different processes during the counseling session. He is collaborative with his clients and the rapport is very strong.

+Melissa Clendaniel I also like how he continually checks in with the client to be sure he's understanding her and staying on the same page. That shows that he cares and really wants to understand her perspective.

I appreciated how Dr Grande deflected the client's questions and challenged the client's value system versus others. He also brought awareness to the client that she has had the same feedback in the past. He brings awareness to how the client's past behaviors are affecting her currently. The video displays a counselor remaining nonjudgmental and empathetic. He allows the client to set goals and objectives and does not try to change her values.

+Michelle Robinson You made a great point about the way Dr. Grande brought awareness to the client. I think this is something that we will face as therapists often. As rapport is established, we may have to begin to ask questions that challenge something the client has done or thought for a long time.

+Michelle Robinson Yes, there was confrontation in a very gentle and empathetic way. He did well not just focusing on the first thing she brought to the table but addressing additional concerns like her romantic relationships.

This video helped me to understand how realistic objectives can be established. Dr Grande was beginning to help the client see other perspectives and he did so in an understanding way.

Great demonstration of how to develop goals and objectives on a treatment plan. I really liked how you worked with the client in developing the plan.

I like how Dr. Grande explained the process of treatment planning in great detail and avoided making assumptions that the client would automatically understand and know what to do. I also found the video to be a good reminder to take the treatment planning process fairly slow in order to remain realistic.

+Jacklin Skibicki I agree, Dr. Grande did a great job explaining the process and taking things slow with the client to avoid setting goals that are unrealistic or not attainable at the moment.

This video will come in handy during my practicum/internship with relational issues. I liked how Dr. Grande allowed the client to share her objectives in regards to therapy. He also confronted the client with unrealistic goals and spun that into a positive objective.

I think it's awesome that Dr. Grande explains what goals and objectives are. They're surprisingly difficult concepts and it's imperative to give an explanation. This started out very simple; the client wanted to have a better relationship with her brothers but it became broader as the session went on. It was revealed that her romantic relationships also tend to give her trouble and she experiences a lot of rejection in that dynamic as well. I think Dr. Grande did a wonderful job of finding certain behavior patterns that could be worked on which are applicable in her relationships in general.

+Alicia Zahn I too think that the explanation of the goals was great! I wouldn't have thought to do that in that it seems a pretty straight foreword process but in hearing the explanation I realized that it's actually very complex.

This is a good video to refer to during Practicum/Internship. It shows how to appropriately provide insight to the client vs. advice giving.

It's interesting to see how goals dealing with relationships are so different from goals that are helpful in treating depression as seen in the previous video. I think this video goes to show you how important working with your client is. The goals for one client wont be the same as another. This is obvious when it comes to different presenting problems but I think it's also true for clients with similar presenting problems. Again, this session was very client directed, the goals were not forced on the client, and great rapport was built in the process.

+Mandy Moore This is a good point. The entire course of the treatment plan can vary based on symptoms or diagnoses, but also from client to client even with the same presenting problem.

This was an interesting video. I liked how Dr. Grande proposed the idea of waiting to talk about commitment and then the client had the insight that she had greater success when commitment was discussed later in the relationship. I liked how they comprised the goals and objectives together and bounced off ideas such as her relationships and anger.

I like how Dr. Grande asks specifically if the objective is something that the client will be able to do. Also, he points out that the objective may be in je of jeopardy of being fulfilled as life occurs. I like how Dr. Grande talks about the client's value system. This makes it very personable for the client.

+Bethany Elstrom I think that making sure the objective is achievable is important because if the objective is something that the client cannot do or has no control over then that will probably hinder the client

This video was great in regards to clarifying what goal and objective setting is all about as well as learning to be realistic and set goals that are achievable. I think breaking everything down to the client helps to provide them with an understanding of how treatment will go and what to expect.

I liked how this video described how the goals need to be achievable. Some clients may want to make goals that will take a long time to complete but as a counselor you want to help them make goals that are more achievable. The process of goal setting does not need to be completed quickly, take your time and make goals that would be important to the client.

Making the goals achievable is very important. That's why objectives are useful in breaking down the goal into something that is measurable for the client.

I like the use of objectives for the goals. I've been remiss in the past because I haven't used objectives/steps of how to reach the goals. It has been helpful to learn to make the goals smaller and more acheivable.

I like how importance of each goal is established. If they seem hesitant or not completely sold on an objective being necessary, you can draw upon how important they consider the goal and to keep that in mind as they think about the objective. I also liked that the objectives were tailored to what was reasonable but challenging to the client. Dr. Grande pointed out that there isn't necessarily a perfect answer but what seems reasonable... what's the least amount of communication that will still satisfy your need to communicate.

In this role play, the counselor set two goals with the client and made a plan to come back to discussing additional goals next session. Now I see that counselors can be flexible in setting goals and how many goals to set. It was interesting how the counselor had insight to ask the client if anger has been a problem in romantic relationships as well. He also further explored her anger to see when it started.

I think the goal and objective parts of the treatment planning are extremely important because the goal sets the tone of the sessions and provides the client something to strive and work towards. Objectives are a great way for the client to observe their strengths and weaknesses

The client definitely appears to have an unstable relationship with her brother, specifically, which seems to be causing some anxiety and rockiness in her life. She also seems to struggle with romantic relationships; she comes across to others as needy and clingy and this seems to cause her some distress.
