This kind-of also explains why my cherries in the shop always have such a large amounts of bumps in them. Dropping them on metal plates or in an empty large crate from 6 feet and then they get crushed by 3 feat of cherries on top of them. But I guess it doesn't matter if you all use them for cherry jelly/marmalade/jam/flavour/juice. Or you buy a sorting machine that laser checks all cherries for damages and sorts them on color / ripeness / damage / anomalies for different processing.

If u eat sour factory cherries yes. But probably they are bumped by the threatment in the shop and the way to there. Sweet cherries dont ripe evenly enough and are way to vulnerable to be machine "picked"

+Eric Boyles We have never heard of hornet attacks like that. Usually orchards are using honey bees for pollination, which are kept in hive boxes and do not make nests on the trees. Also, the trees are protected from unwanted insects by spraying pesticides so there would be little chance for a hornet nest to form. That being said, it might still be possible but we haven't heard of any such occasions.

For cherries the tree should be cleared in one shake, a second time might be required if the tree isn't completely emptied. The harvesting only happens when the cherries are ready for picking, so each tree gets handled once per season.
