Fantastic work! I had the luck to spend a month in 2nd growth Brazilian jungle in SW Brazil, where our daughter was working with SIL in missionary work. -- As a retired science teacher, I can't praise you enough for not just your research, but for thinking of the big picture, from teaching youth to working with the local people, and about what humans can learn from Nature. -- But how can we (including teachers like me passing this on to youth) stop the Oligarchs and stockholders and consumers who instead want to turn it into a hotel, or golf course, or mine, or oilfield, or rocket launch site, or military base, or acres of soybeans or palm oil? -- Half of America's population voted to ignore the environment and future of the Earth to keep gasoline and egg prices low, or to make more billions of dollars.. -- That is the puzzle of Human Evolution as our greed and arrogance is destroying evolution itself by destroying the environment and the entire Earth climate for centuries. -- Humans don’t change to adapt, they change everything else so they don’’t have to change their own comfortable standard of living.

Just wondered.. exactly what does missionary’s do?

@@shawnsanborn2057 Good question. Most missionaries are a mix of colonialism, arrogance and racism.Their goal is to destroy all old cultures and languages and religions. Now the Internet and globalism and tourism and corporations are doing the same thing on steroids ---- However one, SIL, which started out as "Summer Institute of Linguistics, " has a worldwide program to preserve ancient languages. All their missionaries are trained as linguists. The goal of course is to translate the bible into their native language,. --- But what i have seen is the tribes can easily ignore Christianity, but now they know how to read and write contracts to save their land and fight mining and logging. --- My daughter married a missionary boy who grew up in a Papua New Guinea tribe. My daughter was not a linguist at all, but they got a job in Brazil in a resource center doing maintenance and organization jobs. --- The linguists live with the tribe for a few months learning the language basics. Then they spend a month at the resource center to do the computer on their computers of what they learn, before going back. --- That is the only reason I supported them. As a retired science teacher, I have been doing research on ancient cultures and migration patterns, and often use SIL dictionaries. I can trace connections between cultures around the world better than genetics by matching words in their languages.

@@caracortage3270 I agree. But writing in comments like this encourages tossing out a few sentences without taking time to proofread and rewrite. --- A Scientific American article suggested that the Earth is in an Inter-glacial, and after we run out of oil in a few hundred years, the climate cycles will resume the last ice Age with global cooling.---- But with fracking, oil companies are pumping billions of tons of poisonous chemicals into the rocks. Over thousands and millions of years of future erosion, those chemicals will poison rivers and watersheds.

So your an ex-science teacher and your daughters was over there trying to convert indigenous peoples to believe in a delusional preacher from Galilee who lived over 2000 years ago. I really wish you religious people would stay out of other people's cultures and lives

The French guy is very arrogant, he claims the treehoppers aren’t aware of the rest of Forrest, yet the treehoppers communication system uses the trees!

Don’t believe that’s arrogance, more ignorance.

Ever try to crush a tree hopper like an insignificant bug?? It's impossible. I'm so greatful that these treehoopers don't bite or feed on humans. 😮
