There are better spec'd direct to consumer bikes that are the same price as the Fuel Ex 5 but I compared it to the Siskiu because I have hands on experience with it.

I bought a closeout Siskiu T7 (2018) at the end of Dec for 1349.00. 140mms travel f/r and it's been great so far. The X Fusion shock is decent and when it breaks I'll upgrade it.
@meteormedia70214 жыл бұрын
I dunno man... You could upgrade a lot of stuff on the Polygon for that massive price difference. 800$ is a lot. Really don't know if the Trek is worth it.
@OLKIEMTB4 жыл бұрын
I agree. The intent of the video was to show what you get from a traditional bike shop brand vs buying online. I would buy a polygon Siskiu T8 over a fuel ex 5 anyday and they are the same price. I just wanted to show people that bike shop brands come at a premium.
@littlebrowndude34604 жыл бұрын
I think i would go with the polygon too i would change some parts on it after I ride it a lot
@neodro48314 жыл бұрын
That's the plan - upgrade shocks or tires (or both if possible by chipping in another 100$) - Polygon should be on everyone's list while considering a first dual suspension and entry into trail and mountain biking (I've a hardtail, just in case you are wondering)
@ghstofperdition3 жыл бұрын
This video doesn't really make the siskui look like a good option, when you factor in time aswell as cost the fuel ex is the better option, you get what you pay for right away, and it requires no work.

Bontrager info: A lot of the Bontrager components are just rebranded, but not all, lower end hubs are Formula hubs, not to be confused with Formula, which is an Italian Supsension & brake manufacturer. But Formular hubs manufacturer hubs for other brands, as well as sell their own, and license to other brands like Bontrager, Giant, but they are not always branded, some times sold blank with no branding at all, sometimes Branded as Bontrager. Bontrager seat post seem to be something similar too, I have seen Bontrager SSR seatpost, flic.kr/p/MwwiiV which came on my 2010 3900 & 6300, branded as GT from 2000s, and have seen it without branding on Scott, but I haven't figured out which manufacturer is making them yet. Seat post clamp was also seen on Scott, unbranded, but branded on as Bontrager on Trek bikes. as seen on Scott: flic.kr/s/aHsmhtbtzF As seen on Trek: flic.kr/p/zBjBAT

How does the new 2021 Siskui D7 compare to the 2021 Fuel EX5? The new D7 is $1699 and the EX5 is $2099. I spoke with Polygon and they'll be late Aug to Sept for availability in the US, and there may be a chance I can get my hands on a Trek sooner. Basically, I don't have a bike yet, want to get into the sport ASAP, but want to choose the right bike.
@OLKIEMTB4 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. The newer polygon has some good upgrades but if you need more travel and you want the bike now, the trek might be right for you. The polygon is still a great value though, even at 1699. They upgraded the drive train and the rear shock.

@@OLKIEMTB much appreciated. I went big spendy on an Enduro bike last year and find that half my rides are climbing with no huge features and started looking xc. This thing coming in at 30lbs with the 46t rear puts it really comparable with almost everything below 3k, I'll be happy to just mod it as I go.

Any thing from raceface is solid. I've had two sram NX cranksets on other bikes with no issues. I would stay away from sram Sx though, I've heard a lot of bad things. Shimano's deore crankset is supposed to be really good but I don't have experience with them.

You can't do that because the siskiu uses thru axels and the bobcat uses quick release skewers.

between those two I would go for Polygon, but maybe a different model. in my case, I would have to go for largest frame they offer, 20.5(29er) 485 mm reach, I ride a Nicolai Geometron G1 size large with 515mm reach www.polygonbikes.com/shop/bikes/mountain/trail/siskiu-d7-4/ 2:15 nice dual shear pivot. cus I have had bad experience with Trek Norway, and also I have researched on forums, youtube, and Trek still manages to make bikes with flaws, and major issues, even on high end models. some of the issues include: 2014 fuel ex: bending hanger regularly, bearings pushed out of rocker link, bolts getting loose there too, I was retired my 2014 Fuel EX. cracks in rocker link, and snapped rocker link on biggest size. 2013 Slash, snapped chainstay, also seen on older Fuel EX Issues with bearings coming out, not only on 2014 fuel ex but other models too, including 20019 Slash carbon. I have had comments on Instagram for people that worked on Trek bikes cus they have bakeshops, and they have seen similar issues on newer models. loosing MinoLink seems to be common. but I think the size of bike, ride, will play a role in how much issues a rider has, I have seen that people that had smaller frames or same size but had 27.5 model did not have issues. my Fuel Ex was flexy, too short for me, but it was also so problematic I had to stop riding it, So I had to get a new bike, So that's what I did. but the newer models are much stiffer, I see they are much beefier.

This is pretty funny, I'm that guy that bought a marlin 5 last year, upgraded it to compete against any of trek's better hardtails. But I want more.. For the last month I have had polygon and Norco's website up on my phone comparing back and forth. I'm mechanically inclined so buying direct is a viable option. The only thing holding me back is the minimum $2000 Canadian I need to drop at once. Like that's a down payment on a new SUV.. I just don't have that kind of cash. So we wait until the stars align.
