Point one: exactly my problem with these wide bars. I’m in trails in pines and often trails go between two trees (or more) or they are poorly maintained, overgrown. I got a pipe cutter at the hardware store and cut them down 1.5” from each side

SLX is not a short fall! You cut on the dual upshift feature and then you say you want xt. All the upper end Shimano shifters past the Deore have the dual upshift feature. You want that gone, down grade to Alivio or switch to SRAM. No other full suspension at this price level comes with SLX. My 3k Giant came with SLX and my buddy’s 4K Rocky Mountain came with SLX. They are solid parts. My least favorite thing about the D7 is the D7 is the long chain stays, they limit the bikes maneuverability. Yes I’ve ridden the D7.
@OLKIEMTB
@OLKIEMTB 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for telling me, I was under the impression that the higher end Shimano shifters removed the dual upshift feature. I agree the D7 is not the most maneuverable bike especially compared to my other trail bike.

I have the D7 as well in a Medium 29er. I’ve heard most complaints on pedal strikes coming from those on the Large and XL as they use a 175mm long crank arms compared to the 170mm crank arms on the Medium and smaller. I’d too hated the factory bars but it was due to the 6* back sweep killed my wrists. I found when going tubeless I removed to O ring from the stem and that helped getting them to seal. Also the odd seemingly proprietary chain ring bolt sizing as to replace it you’re left replacing the cranks. Another complaint is the use of center lock rotors and not being boost in the front, makes upgrading the forks difficult as pretty much all new forks these days are Boost spacing and the availability of an adapter kit makes it very limiting. I did design a “Bottomless Token” for the Recon RL forks if you’d like to give them a try I’d be happy to get them to you to try.
@OLKIEMTB
@OLKIEMTB 4 жыл бұрын
I am considering getting 170mm cranks but I don't know if I will keep the bike for much longer. I didn't even know the RL could accept tokens. How do yours work?
@boneheadfish7893
@boneheadfish7893 4 жыл бұрын
OLKIE typically the Recon RL does NOT accept tokens as the ID of the air can is a bit smaller. What I designed and made inserts into the top air cap like traditional tokens but is retained with an O ring. Also the internal volume of the air can is smaller so there is not as much room so they are a bit shorter. I offer a 2 piece package with a 10mm long and 20mm long token to be able to tailor it to a wider range of riders.

That 2-way upshifting? It's freakin' GOLD mate! If you often switch between Ye Olde Shimano and SRAM, you're always getting it wrong, whichever bike you're on. With this trigger, you just can't. It's a solution for a problem few people have, but I'M few people. Love it. More relatable might be switching between Hilux and Ranger. Hilux reverse is where it should be. In the Ranger, you look over your shoulder, select 6th, and stall. (If you're lucky, you don't pop forwards enough to damage your manager's air conditioning unit outside his office. Twice.*) *Scenario is definitely entirely made up, and never happened to anyone, especially me.

i just bought the D5 that was on sale. so far, i have 2 complaints already after 3 rides. the handle is too wide and it is a liability. and #2, the chain or something is making a ton of noise when coming downhill on rough terrain and shifting was smooth but last ride it started to slip between gears which was annoying trying to climb hills.
@OLKIEMTB
@OLKIEMTB 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't like the D7 bar length either. I don't think the D5 comes with a clutch derailleur which would explain your chain slap noise. Try adjusting your derailleur if you are having shifting issues.

what do you think about this bike with 160mm fork? is it worth it?
@Mr.P.Griffith
@Mr.P.Griffith 4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the rear shock has something to do with the pedal strikes.. Does it sag too much during pedaling or is the rebound so slow that your body expects the bike to be somewhere it isn't? The rear shock is a "cut corner" item, that's why I'm wondering if it's under preforming and catching you out.. Know what I mean? Great video. I'm a hardtail owner wanting to go full sus, so video's like this are quite helpful.
@OLKIEMTB
@OLKIEMTB 4 жыл бұрын
Others have made this suggestion as well. I adjusted my sag and rebound but it didn't make a difference. I have just had to get used to the bike. I don't pedal strike as much now because I know that I have to get my pedal strokes times right.
@Mr.P.Griffith
@Mr.P.Griffith 4 жыл бұрын
@@OLKIEMTB my thought was it's not acting as it should or as you'd expect it to during use. Not just having the sag set right. The only way to test my theory is to strap a gopro to the frame and watch it's movements during a strike. But since you've basically overcome the problem then all is good.

I've never ridden a decent shimano set up. My only experience with shimano shifters has been on lower end bikes. All of the descent bikes I've had came with Sram set ups. I've been riding for about 4 years now. I currently have two bikes, my polygon and a 2017 diamondback catch. I've had four rim setups that were tubeless and none of them were asymmetrical.

OLKIE well just to let you know, one of i9’s top carbon enduro wheel sets that cost over $2,000 are asymmetric. Maybe you should familiarize yourself with more than just the two bikes you’ve owned before you knock tech that is tried and true.
@OLKIEMTB
@OLKIEMTB 4 жыл бұрын
I've owned about 10 mountain bikes in the last 4 years. My channel is focused on affordable and budget topics which is probably why I haven't had any experience with asymmetrical rims. I wasn't knocking the concept of asymmetrical rims but simply the ones that came on my bike. They just haven't worked well for me and that's all I was complaining about. I'm sure there are great asymmetrical rims that don't have the issues I've had with my entity wheels.
