Nice video. It's an annual hike of mine. A piece of advice for those that want to try this trail. Go counter clockwise. The very exposed east side is obviously scorching, but if you knock that section out in the morning the hike is more tolerable.

Yes next time I will do the loop the other way
@medor66355 жыл бұрын
Wait what? You did that loop 9 hours? Lol My backpack is about 35lbs and doing two overnights up there this weekend to shoot landscape and timelapse. Great video.

Yea I wanted to do it faster but the snow slowed me down. This year for my birthday I did the McKenzie River Trail (26.6 miles) in 11 hours, so that kind of gives you an idea of how fast I generally hike when there is no snow. You’ll love it up there, great landscape for photography and astrophotography.

I'll be heading there for this loop Fri/Sat myself

I had no choice with it being a loop. Lol. I don’t love this hike because it is so exposed to the sun but it is incredibly beautiful.

@@HikeOregon it looked amazing, so will probably still do it this year. Thank you for the great video!!!

If you encounter an anthill, you could lay a towel on it let the Ants spray it, shake them off, and use it as an anti-tick and mosquito rub, after wetting it a bit of water. almost all insects hate it. or use a miniscule amount of formic acid. much cheaper then most mosquito sprays. just a tip. that is my naturalist Birthday present :-) congrats to the record.And your birthday.

Congratulations on your new personal best for a day hike. Quite impressive. Waldo Lake was an intense day hike, I remember that. Great video, I was your 100th "like". I look forward to seeing more videos from you this summer. On a side note - how is your Garmin InReach? I'm seeing more and more bad reviews on them from PCT hikers in the forums. Curious of your thoughts.
@HikeOregon5 жыл бұрын
When I did this hike little did I know that a few weeks later I’d be doing an even longer hike in one day! Currently my PR for mileage in a day is 24.5 miles. I hope to do 26 for my birthday this year. The Garmin works great for what I use it for. I don’t use all the features so I can’t speak on those things like tracking and such. I love it and it gives me piece of mind. It has never failed in sending a message and even when I’m in the woods messages don’t take longer than a minute to send.

Hey so funny story, a few years ago, I was on that same trail. The first view area you show with the rocky cliff side and a view of black butte, I tripped, nearly fell, caught myself, watched helplessly as my water bottle went tumbling down the hill. Was not my finest day.

Happy birthday. I am one of your international followers, from Norway. I am not familiar with the measuring system in the US. When you talk about how far you have been hiking I have to calculate how far it is in kilometers. When you talk about the weight of your gear I have to calculate in to grams. When you edit your video can you somewhere on the screen put the international mesures? Best regard Trond

Happy 31st birthday! Love the video and the amazing views! It's videos like this that makes Hike Oregon the channel that I just can't wait for a new video! BTW, you were moving! 21.5 mile trek in 9 hours? That's 2.4 MPH not bad for wilderness hiking.

Happy Birthday! I am enjoying your videos. If you want a hiking buddy on a weekend, let me know. I hike more than my friends and prefer to go with friends so I can always use more. You can find me on Push Adventures on youTube. or Tisha West on Facebook. I just started documenting my hikes on youTube. I live in SW Washington, but willing to drive to areas of Oregon.
