Justin and Anna Hit the Trail

Күн бұрын

The PCT journey continues! We get some incredible views as we make our way past Three Finger Jack and head around Mount Jefferson. However, while we’re on the mountain we get treated to a thunderstorm and a big temperature drop. This doesn’t bode well with Anna’s raynaud’s syndrome, and we have a scary moment when her fingers go numb. The following day we get more great scenery as we hike down to the beautiful Ollalie Lake. Cheers!
We no longer need town beers on the trail! A huge thank you to everyone for following along with our journey on the PCT. However, if you would like to support future videos and future hikes, feel free to contribute whatever you would like to the Venmo or PayPal below. Cheers!

Mittens are better than gloves for rain. Your fingers heat one another.😊 I was raised in Canada… I use mine as bags to carry small items when it’s nice outside.

I also have Raynaud's and it gets pretty bad in my toes. Honestly the best thing I have found to help is keeping those hot hands warmers with me so when it happens, I just use those. Mine affects my toes the most and I ended up buying heated socks and they have helped me a lot.

What a great surprise. We saw u on Chaps. I thought you were behind that tramily(Chaps, Hollywood, and C.C. Grace..not fireball). I think you guys and other hikers following the PCT "skip ups" to avoid fire and closure are doing it right. The hikers who are "trying" to maintain "continuous footsteps" are really torturing themselves. Re-route is tougher than everyone thought. Re-route = many boring/foot killing "highway" walks, bush wacking, water stop issues, long food carries, no convenient re-supply towns. Then ultimately possibly "new" fire closures and smoke zones. I hope you guys can gear up for the cold weather and bugs, so you can truly enjoy the rest of the hike. Washington looks beautiful, but so far the climate looks miserable. (soon, the heat dome will fast approaching) keep on. btw, look for a small chemical bag hand warmer if you can get to an REI or outdoor store.

Sounds like we were close to Chap and that tramily for a while. It’s funny how you can be so close to other hikers but just always be a day or two behind. Also our videos are delayed more than his, so it might look like we’re further behind.

I didn’t know Anna had Reinauds syndrome. I grew up in Oregon, those rain storms can get very cold, even in summer. My friend with it keeps hand warmers with her. I have some that are rechargeable. They each weigh 8 oz. Once they complete their heating cycle you boil them in hot water. Once cooled, they can be reactivated to heat up. I gave her a set. She moved to where I live in So Cal cuz where she grew up was effecting her too much. But you both still crushed over 20 miles. Good job. But take care and enjoy the sunny days and beautiful scenery. I know you are probably done by now with the PCT, or close to it. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

Almost finished! We’ll look into the rechargeable hand warmers. Seem weighty for a thru hike but might be worth it when it’s wet and cold.

@@justinhitsthetrail5225 they are a little heavy for a backpacker but you carry whisky. lol. The ‘luxury’ items each person carries varies. With reinauds it might feel worth it in certain circumstances. Wishing you all the best on your journey to the monument

Gorgeous views!! So sorry, There are usb chargable gloves to help keep hands warm, lightweight half finger 4oz, reasonable price. Its probably going to continue to be cold so maybe get sent ahead? Then wear cheap plastic gloves over them.

Some one taught me to make fast arm circles to send blood to my hands and fingers to warm them up. I wonder if this easy little trick would work with your condition.

If hikers would just 'hold it' ti'll they get into town the deer wouldn't bother us. jejeje I've been seeing a lot of battery powered apparel at Cabela's and the like so wonder if heated gloves are available. Or those hard warmers? Once or twice in the past few decades I've seen the type you can reuse indefinitely by boiling them so they solidify for next use.

Rain mitts along with dry gloves should help. The mitts are extremely light. Probably too late to help now.

We have some. Even spent up on the pricey Zpacks rain mitts. They soaked through, or some water got in through the cuff. Either way her fleece mitts underneath also got wet.

@@justinhitsthetrail5225add some nitrile gloves to the mix for Anna. The vapor barrier will help, and they should be easy to find and cheap. Think in terms of a system- vapor barrier, then insulation, then shell.with hot hands. I saw a comment about arm circles- that ‘s a go to ice climber’s trick and should help too. Good luck.

What I use and love for my hands when its really cold are these awesome reusable heat pods called " HotSnapz". Onces, you use them just boil them and they are ready to go the next time you need them. They last a good hour to hour and a half.
