Today I'm back onboard Air Canada.. alone! After my last flight on their 787-9 in Business Class over from Mexico City, there's certainly a lot of room for improvement. I have a 14 hour layover first to contend with at Toronto international airport.
My second Air Canada flight will be on their 777-300ER in Business Class. I'm told there should be a number of improvements with their soft product for this routing including some bedding this time! I'll also get to meet the captain and this time I will have no issues filming as Air Canada are aware of this flight. This does make reviewing this impartially a bit difficult as you'll see, service is certainly adapted to account for my presence. However I will say I experienced some of the best cabin crew onboard, a huge contrast to my previous flight. The question remains.... will I fly Air Canada again (interestingly awarded North America's best airline). Let's find out.

Take a secret friend on the same flight as you, next time! Interested in seeing whether there is a contrast in service. Air Canada has spoiled several flights for me (far before the pandemic excuse) and I've been booking with ANYONE else ever since. The last straw was standing at the front of the check-in line, watching the two attendants with empty desks gossip about the weekend for 20 minutes. When they finally casually called us up to the desk, they were like "oops, you missed check-in! Want to pay for the next flight?" Fortunately the supervisor was sitting across the hallway at another desk and was well aware we were standing there the whole time. We were still late to our destination, but at least the new flight was comped. Never took AC again (and never will!)

I can personally say after flying Air Canada first class from Dublin to Los Angeles in August of 2022, the first experience sounds par for the course. We flew the 787 which was a great experience but the staff were rude, curt, and overall offputting. We were served dinner at 9am and when we asked why made to feel like we were the idiots for questioning a dinner serving at breakfast. The food was lousy as well. I have blocked AIr Canada from my flying choices and recommend the same to anyone doing long-haul flights, especially in the business or first-class space. Far too many competitors with substantially better service.

I remember my own Toronto layover! It happened when I was a kid, probably around 2012 or so. It was with Air Canada as well, and while I did have to stay in the terminal, Air Canada I remember gave us some free money and gave us constant updates on the situation. Our layover was due to some error and I remember them apologizing profusely multiple times. Regardless, we always flew IcelandAir after that fiasco. Speaking of which, I'd really like to see your review of IcelandAir! It's been a while since I've flown with them, but I always remember their service being impeccable.

@@Trektrendy I enjoy your vids, and don't give a toss what you wear... generally nowadays anything goes. In the past, it was relavtively expensive to fly or even travel, so it was an occasion. People would dress as a sign of respect to the other passengers and flight crew, to show it was a special occasion. Not just like a commuter bus journey, as it is treated today. And to be fair, it has become accessible as a bus is, so why not dress comfortably?... just as long as we aren't offending anyone with our BO or from dirty clothes. Were this your average citizen, they would have basically told him to kick bricks, deal with it, and done absolutely nothing. At that point I didn't care if they kicked me off, I.asked her if she thought I borrowed it. She then proceeded to show me my seat. Good job, kudos to you calling out AC and respect to AC responding positively, even in a corporate contrived way. I've flown AC so many times in a past life. Just watched both of your videos of Air Canada, and it is so on the money. I regularly fly Air Canada Business and there is a massive difference between flying within NA and the long haul flights over the pond and to East Asia especially. When you are set for those 8-16hr flights with Air Canada, the FA's are so kind and very professional, food selection is great, bedding is made for you, and all other things you would expect are there.. Under 5hr flights, the service certainly diminishes as well as the amenities (bedding, cutlery, beverages, food). In those flights, FA's don't really care and you feel like its more of a milk run than a luxury flying experience. Its a very different experience all together. I have flown with them an incredible number of times, never had a car to the gate, never had a concierge officer to assist me to the gate, etc. They definitely gave you the suck up treatment. As Air Canada becomes more popular, I really hope they step it up and become more of a leader in the space.

I can't help but agree with you on the "is this the AC PR machine at work..." sentiment but as a Toronto-based PR guy myself, I have to say that you can't deny how impressive that machine is, having been able to respond to your criticism within hours. Most large companies don't have that speed or effeciency, let alone track down the actual person that quickly. Great 'apology' video. Very interesting. (I've had mixed experiences with AC as well)

i think the fact they had to stage it so hard shows that treating passengers poorly is pretty normal for them. if bad service was uncommon on their airline, their PR team wouldn't have had to make sure every single employee on the aircraft knew who you were. they wouldn't have to do that if their employees treated everyone with respect by default.

Every time I've flown AC plus the one time in business class, I can confirm they have had amazing customer service every time I've flown with them to the extent that I think they're one of my favorite airlines now. You're previous flight most likely would've been the staff on an individual level. AC unlike other airlines actually provides apologies and vouchers etc for problems. One time there was a 1h issue with in-flight entertainment system and they gave us 250$ credit vouchers for the next flight for a very minor inconvenience

I think it’s great that you gave them the opportunity to redeem themselves, and the fact that they even noticed on your Instagram and did some thing about it immediately also says a lot in my opinion. Some people have a bad flight and then never make another video about a good flight or the flight redeeming themselves. (Lilly Singh) I think it is typically fair to say that we’ve all had a bad flight, that first one was especially bad for you - and I’m glad that this one was better and hopefully they continue to stay better in the future

I fly with Air Canada all the time. Other than going into the cockpit, my experience has almost always been great. I do fly a lot, so I get concierge service, the service director always comes over in business class and introduces him/herself. Food is generally good, wines are well selected, and hard spirits are now available. All pre-covid services have been restored, meaning no more plastic utensils. The lounges are better than most in North America other than Centurion lounges.
