I always liked John's idea of the slits in the struts. I would like to think of them being there to separate the power feeds. The front support could house the return power from the nacelles, and the rear of the strut (larger portion) would be where the feeds from the warp core feed the engines.

So, technically a Constitution III (the "refit" was originally called the Constitution II but it was retconned as refit at some point. It's mare pretty clear to Kirk the ship is essentially brand new, and he proceeds to then get lost as a result lol).

@adamlytle26158 жыл бұрын
It is "advanced" looking in certain ways, but you have to appreciate the limitations they had in making a ship that existed before the constitution class but with modern design sensibilities. I think they could have done a lot with surface details to make the 'build' look primitive if not the overall design - ie, more visible rivets, pipes, varying materials used for the hull plating.
@TalesOfWar8 жыл бұрын
That's pretty much what they eventually came up with in the final version of the NX class. The aesthetic in Enterprise is damn near flawless, it's just a shame the storylines went a bit... shit. It ended pretty strongly though (up to the point of Riker walking out of the holodeck...), sadly it was already set to die before they went into the final season so no matter how amazing it could have been it was never going to get another chance.

Think we should ask the designers of all Star Trek ships to join some kind of competition, just for the fun of it. Rules: 1. Must be a Starfleet vessel 2. Type of the ship does not matter, shuttles and other smaller ships are excluded (unless as additional item for their ship design of course) 3. The ship should fit in the main timeline, it's up to the designer where to fit it 4. The ship should be well thought out, this meaning the designer can not just have a shape because it's pretty or it looks like it would add something. It needs a actual function. 5. Information added would be a big plus point. The designer may design new systems if this is needed, adapt old systems, etc. Also what type of ship it is and whether it is long distance or not, how many crew members and of course what role it is meant for. 6. The ship design may have multi-vector capabilities, it may have secondary ships that can be detached from the main body (Odyssey and Pathfinder class idea for example from Star Trek Online). This is not a requirement, just a clear notification of options. 7. Name of the ship and ship class is a requirement, in case of multi-vector system or detachable ships (see #7) as well. Good luck :D

i've had this idea banging around my head for a series based in the borg time line from that episode where worf bounces around a buncha different timeframe things. called U.S.S Survivor a single ship whose crew is around 5500 comprising the last known survivors of federation , romulan, klingon etc who've witnessed the borg spread and every other race band together to fight them from all quadrants but are pushed back again and again. the divergance is when they are about to beam picard back to the enterprise he simply doesn't get transported, an event that confuses even Q who talks lamentedly to the survivors captain that "if theres an event the Q cant explain, we cant fix what we dont understand and this is not how things were meant to go" their technology by normal federation standards would be labeled illegal but considering how fast the borg came in and kept sending periodic more cubes a torpedo named the Feltium named for the heroic actions of captain Feltium who lead a boarding party to steal assimilation infomation from the borg themselves, the borg realise too late what that crew was doing but blow the cube they were on apart to deny any more infomation. the time frame is set obviously in the immediate aftermath of Wolf 359 to - 11 years later where the borg are hunting the last few vessals. DS9 is heavily reinforced to protect from borg entering through the wormhole with quantum torpedos, the more exotic torpedos that exist. Episode 1 would deal with enterprises failure to return picard and massacar of 359, the borg reaching earth and luna and sending drones down. Episode 2-3 deals with the additional cubes attacking other races and an alliance of all alpha and beta quadrant races, combining their technology together Episode 4 is the gamma and what few remain of delta joining up and enterprise D disapering suddenly suspected to have been destroyed by the borg. Episode 5 is survivor witnessing the destruction of the hero ships, defiant, enterprise E, excellsior, neigh'var etc and the end of the episode the crew of survivor gathering the handfuls of survivors from the other ships and receiving no other friendly signals Episode 6 opens with Survivor destroying 20ish cubes with Feltiums and the captain delivering an altered ofthe star trek space line "Space the final frontier, these are the voyages of the USS survivor our continuing mission, to survive, to seek out starsystems the borg haven't assimilated yet, to restock our deuterium and live. To boldly go where no survivor has gone before." delivered to the crew after months of beleiving themselves the sole vessal not borg. a spatial tear is found on long range sensors with multiple cubes behind them they rush to the tear with the mindset of this is the last thing we'll be able to investigate according federations origonal goal, exploration, they deplete their Feltiums, then their conventional torpedos holding back the borg and approach the tear, deploying several torpedos as timed mines to blow the tear behind them, expecting it to be a wormhole to "hopefully anywhere not here" the latter half of the episode is survivor coming across prime timeelines Enterprise E investigating a spatial tear , hail the survivor with their crew beleiving this to be a final insult from the borg to have locutus in command of their next enterprise and fire upon picards ship. resulting in a pitched battle where due to having depleted their entire stock of torpedos against the cubes are whittled down first by enterprise leading them to ram the ship and board it at structrual connection points meaning survivor has penetrated several decks/sections into enterprise and survivors captain rallying all survivors crew who wear a diffierent uniform to enterprises and rallying with the battlecry "DEATH TO LOCOTUS" ultimately leading to a fight on the bridge where picard offers himself to quell the bloodlust after an impassioned speech about how his crew saved him from that life and if survivors captain wants him dead, hes right there, just needs to fire the phaser. the survivors captain clearly mentally shaked, calls off the scorched earth protocol of his warps core going critical. the final scene is enterprises fleet turning up awaiting orders from picard and him saying "we're go home together"

I can't see it working before the 1701 (as mentioned too advanced looking) but think this would fit well within the Enterprise-C era as a new and necessary Federation starship design (within that alternate timeline battling the Klingons) chunkier hull plating and love the different elements, which in my mind are compartmentalised areas of the ship which could be jettisoned if needed.

I always enjoy the episodes with John Eaves. Seems like a real nice guy. I also liked all those unused concept NX01s we say (including the ring ship), and today's feature is a great design that should have seen the light of day, somehow. How cool would it have been if THAT were the USS Discovery, or the reboot Enterprise-A? As to that concept looking like the Vengeance, eh, vaguely, I suppose? I think it looks much better, at any rate. Every time Trekyards shows work from John Eaves (or Andrew Probert, Doug Drexler, or Rick Sternbach for that matter), I think how much superior their designs are to what we got in the reboot movies. They just are more elegant to me, and that is not meant as a disrespect to the reboot films, either. I just prefer the ships from TOS Movie Era through TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT era.

There are some elements of these designs in some of the stuff in Star Trek Online. The drawing prominently shown looks pretty close to one of the newer replacements for the Connie's role of light cruiser and fits pretty well from TOS to TNG era styling.

5:00 There it is! I love Doug Drexler and his work, but he has to get over the fact that people call him on the NX-01 being an inverted Akira. In one Trekyards appearance he actually said that when people say that to him he know they are morons, or something to that effect. I get that he must be sick of hearing it, but those fans aren't stupid, just familiar with the ship designs. It is what it is, and here we learn that it was not his decision, or for want of other design ideas. He should just point that out when it gets mentioned instead of being so sensitive about it.

I would really love to see either John or Doug play around with some favorite "non canon" designs, like the Mann Class and Baton Rouge Class, just to see their take on those ship designs. It would be cool if Discovery would be more along the lines of the latter, but I'm sure that it won't. Still, sketches from John and/or CG models of either (or both) ship classes from Doug would be cool.

1:10 It looks somewhat like the Vengeance. I’d have to see it in colour for my final impressions, but this looks way too advanced in comparison to what we saw in the original series. I would personally have gone to Rick Sternbach given his work on the Spaceflight Chronology. 11:00 I know that John Eaves looked at the S.S. Valiant from the Spaceflight Chronology, but what did he think of the Mann and Baton Rouge classes? I would also be fine with the XCV-330 as I love that design. But this does underline the fact that they should not have gone backwards unless they were willing to commit to an older-looking ship. 11:46 When you think about it you wouldn’t have windows on a starship as within a star system you’d likely face blinding light while in deep space it offers no tactical advantage. The Galaxy-class was meant to accommodate more luxurious living quarters, but something like the Constitution-class was more of a nuclear submarine with bunks.
@eXcommunicate19798 жыл бұрын
Well, if you think about what Cmd. Cockings says in the video: TOS is "more advanced" despite looking simpler. It's the cell phone analogy. Today's smartphones are externally very simple. It's what's underneath that is advanced. The old school Nokias has all kinds of angles, an external retractable antenna, folded in half, etc., while modern smartphones are smooth and sleek, with soft angles.
@TalesOfWar8 жыл бұрын
It's similar with modern naval vessels too. They're very sleek and flat compared to ones even from 20-30 years ago. Compare a Type 23 Destroyer with its replacement the Type 45.
@enterprise-h3128 жыл бұрын
That is true. I guess I meant to say “more modern” in terms of the Star Trek universe where it would not feel out of place between the First Contact fleet, but I personally consider the Constitution to look more modern. One way to make it feel less advanced would be to add spikes to the nacelles.

The side view does look like a shrunken Kelvin Timeline USS Vengeance. On the other hand, I love the Enterprise from JJ Abram's movie (1 and 2). It was the closet re-imagining/update to the original TOS design - and it was beautiful. The size itself made sense to me because even as a kid, I kept thinking that the TOS ship had a really THIN neck and THIN pylons. The fact that some pictures of the TOS ship showed WINDOWS ON THE PYLONS where it shouldn't be annoys me! I've also seen some of the MSD and cutaways of the TOS ship, and that neck area had some suspiciously "spacious" rooms on something that skinny. I've seen bridge cutaways of that damn TOS domed bridge and it is basically just ONE room. If you take that into account; there isn't enough room to squeeze four or six regular-sized humans side by side with shoulders touching inside the neck of the ship. It's very clear to me that even in TOS they sometimes cheat on their own measurements the same way they did with Voyager when the effing Delta Flyer looked suspiciously BIGGER than it should be given the shuttle bay isn't that large. Heck, the Delta Flyer WASN'T the ONLY ship parked in there since they also had Neelix's ship - the Baxial - INSIDE the same shuttle bay for most of the series! So that makes Voyager have at least 2 or 3 small shuttles prior to having the Delta Flyer AND that includes Neelix's own ship - so a total of at least 4 crafts at best estimate.

That concept would have been good, but I think the writers and directors wanted to give the impression that mankind was just starting out on it's journey. That's why they ended up with a simplified and smaller version. They didn't want to be too close to the constitution class ship of James Kirk. I believe they made the right decision even though they had to compromise on a really good ship. that ship design looks like it belongs in a time frame after James Kirk. Maybe a smaller version of the constitution class star ship. Maybe something designed for battle rather than exploration. Perhaps an early version of the intrepid class star ship.

Ultimately the problem is that a prequel ship needs to make the Constitution look like a sports car vs a Model T. You get that with a Daedalus and certainly with the TOS-R/TAS Antares - maybe even the Bonaventure. Likewise you get that when comparing a Galaxy to it's predecessors. This ship looks like something I made out of legos as a kid (which I consider a complement to my lego ship). But that also means it looks like a generic any era starship.

You know, this is the hull that they should have put the STD Destiny saucer(?) section on. Would have worked waaay better. Then they could have made the Destiny a hull tester that bridges the gap between sphere saucer and the TOS saucer. And this funny enough, grips back to the NX-01 upgrade as well, if you think about it. Two saucers mounted bottom to bottom, with something in between them that flows out to the new ring section. The pylons can then also be a pylon with a safety extra pylon bar since they don't know yet if the actual pylons can carry the forces on their own. Makes the pylons from the NX-01 to NCC-1701, straighter. And they could thus have had a upgrade of the Destiny later in that serie, where all the gaps where closed up. STD sucks, but it had some very interesting designs. But this design would have worked quite well in the STD time period.

I like the ship and I would have liked to see it in on the air, so to speak. But I don't think it fits in the ST:Enterprise era, and it looks a bit more advanced than the Constellation class. It may be an early design of the Constellation refit, but Star Fleet ultimately cancels this and turns toward an update to the Constellation instead. However, I think there can be another scenario: a colony gets separated from the early Federation. It still has the Federation technology, to be sure, and it ends up patterning its starships after that. The colony ends up designing Mr. Eaves' NX-01 concept. It's analogous to a language that develops into dialects. Distance in time and space and exposure to other cultures contribute to the development of a dialect. I know the analogue isn't perfect, but what is?

I would so love to get my hands on a model kit for this ship. why are all the most beautiful ships never used? the prototype Ambassador & then this one.

valor0dragoon yes it’s really fat, not, this thing looks fatter than it, and fats not a bad thing because apparently everyone thinks the enterprise d doesn’t look bad

Yes, too advanced looking, but a very nice design.
