@Jack_Stafford7 жыл бұрын
Mojokilljoy ricklesmits It is explained at the beginning of every mission briefing... they intentionally bring up a ship for first impressions and use their existing knowledge about ships in general to analyse and theorise about them in a casual exploratory manner. Just coming on and quoting a bunch of Statistics for a half hour could be very dry. Sometimes one will know a little bit about it and the other will know nothing or vice versa. I've never seen this ship before so to me I feel like I'm seeing it with friends for the first time and talking about what it could be or do. As it also stated every time on Mission briefings if you do know something put it in the comments which contributes to the complete episode about it to be made later. So I appreciate the post about the pronunciation; it sounds very Klingon and therefore that's sure to become part of a future episode. I'm always happy to see new and interesting designs from throughout the Trek universe and Beyond. These first impressions are fun to explore and give us a chance to contribute when we can!
@valuesubtracted7 жыл бұрын
No, they don't look into the ships before a Mission Briefing...that's the EXPLICIT point of them. And as I recall, the correct pronunciation of the ship class is made clear in maybe one mission in the game. Before that, I always thought it was pronounced they way they did it in this episode.
@Digby25837 жыл бұрын
Thats the point. They also rely on the comments for the information. Dale Stafford said it best though. Regards not knowing the ships correct pronunciation, it is an STO ship and they have said many times they dont get to play the game much so they are not aware of all the ships. Also ever tried read a Klingon word without hearing it spoken? They are rarely pronunced how they're spelt lol

Probably already been told this, but here I go anyway. ;) The Bortasqu' is listed as a Dreadnought Battlecruiser; it's not a carrier, even though it does have a Bird-of-Prey support craft. "War Cruiser" simply denotes the variant, with War being more engineering focused. It has has a Command variant, which is science focused, and Tactical, which is exactly what it says on the tin. The War variant is the one that comes with the HoH'SuS Bird-of-Prey, though it can carry the Autocannon (seen @ 21:34) and Subspace Snare that come on the other two.

One thing I noticed no one else has yet to mention as of this post...it's design is almost similar to the Shockwave (suicide) ship that the Klingons have in Armada, and looking at it from the side it looks like it's the Danube/Runabout shuttles.

In game the Oddysey and Bortas were released at the same time. You had a little mission which saw them actually face off during a test run as part of the games 2nd Anniversary. The Bortasqu variants and T5 Odyssey were later released for purchase.
@samronin11417 жыл бұрын
Half the confusion with the names are that these are the faction Flagships and subdivided into Engineering, Tactical and Science variants. Denoted with the added name aspects like War Cruiser. In game they were one of the first Tier 5 ships to come with such variants which of course lead to those of us completionists to want to own all 3 forms. And was following on into the newer Tier 6 versions as well. And it "was" the biggest ship. Supplanted by the recent Temporal Dreadnoughts which included a Klingon counterpart to the Enterprise J Universe class. So Klingons have a roughly 2 mile long ship now.
@Jack_Stafford7 жыл бұрын
Thank you to ZEFILMS for some great views of the ship! I find it elegant although imposing at the same time. I don't mind the windows on the engines as the ship is so massive that there would be plenty of need and room for support functions and in Klingon psychology it would make sense to put engineers in the engineering sections closest to their work without a lot of regard to their safety. With each engine being the size of the Voyager it makes sense that every square metre wouldn't be full of engine parts. So just the sheer mass of the ship means there's going to be lots of space within the housing for mere humanoids to sleep in bunks and traverse narrow walkways. Also there's always the possibility of Klingon slave labour although I doubt they get a window bunk. ;) Also I can see that the armour does somewhat look like a escape pods but due to the scale I really think this is heavy plated armour instead. And the yellow bars near the front I think we can safely say that is a new deflection system. The position is correct and are no windows in front of it which all speaks to a clear line of sight for the powerful deflector system. Great episode guys; I look forward to more STO Ships coming down the line!

Actually quite like that Bird of Prey design. Glad it finally got proper nacelles. And the skeletal wings are cool. Like the original wings needed to be solid for whatever help they were in atmospheric flight but now with technological advancement they really don't need them to be truly "wing like" - they're basically weapons mounts, I guess.

A spoiler free STO Storyline is basically Klingons and Federation where hostile but not in open conflict at that point, some fishy events created a ceasefire as they investigated. Bortasqu was launched and in service, the Odyssey class Enterprise was in secretive shakedowns and it made its debut fighting side by side with the Bortasqu.

Star Trek Online uses different weapon systems so you get Cannons, Beam Banks and Beam Array strips. So the models generally will have a visual mixture of each. So yes the strips look very Federation Phaser array style, but are Disruptor or other energy weapon type. You can technically use any energy weapon you wish. Phaser, Disruptor, Plasma, Tetryon and Polarons.

The Odyssey/Bortas'qu scaling is off in that one shot. The Oddy is somewhat longer than the Bortas lines. Yes, it only has the one BoP, like the Oddys have the Calypso corvette/diplomatic craft. The forward array is a Galaxy-X grade disruptor autocannon. Neither of your positions you proposed is the bridge, the bridge is actually up next to the BoP dock, recessed into the armor with massive holographic screens for 'windows'.

I imagine if there are warp cores inside the nacelles, if the nacelles get broken off the ship or the main part of the ship is destroyed, they could pack personnel into the nacelles and use them as warp capable life boats. Just detach each nacelle, power up and take off. An interesting emergency possibility that they could serve as ships in themselves if necessary.
@jaysus6207 жыл бұрын
There is a precedent for Klingons using phasers. The K'Tingas in 'Way of the Warrior' fired phasers (from the torpedo bay, no less) in the attack on DS9.
@keirfarnum68113 жыл бұрын
They must have phaser cannons that rotate into place when not firing torps. Although it seems foolish to put multiple weapons in one place where they can get destroyed simultaneously.

If you flipped the bottom of a d'deridex and had it flush with the top wing it's still vast compared to everything else. The length and height of the Bortas/Bortasqu mean an enormous internal volume compared to the sovereign etc. It'd be interesting to see scale models used to calculate displacement. Aside from anything else I suspect the Miranda would be a lot closer to the Connie than is assumed.

You know I play STO alot (got alot of characters on it), but this is the first time that I've thought about the actual size of that Captains launch on the Bortasqu, and "D@mn it is huge!" If you figure that the 'dorsal areas Fold over hatch doors' that lock the launch down in place in the rear Docking area, might actually be only a little bit longer then the full length of the actual hidden forward section of the launch(yacht) that is actually covered up by them (and stays hidden beneath them) then do a quick combined measuring out of both the hatch doors, and the visible section of the launches actual frame, and then compare it to the Sovereign class on the (top view) size comparison pic "then that sucker must be somewhere between 1/3 to just under 3/5's the length of the Sovereign Class, depending on how much of the actual length is really covered up by the dorsal docking areas fold-over hatch doors...." (0_O)' Wow! Dat be a Huge aux ship!! Suckers more like an Auxillery Battle Cruiser then a launch!!! (^w^) LMAOoo !!!

Yea, STO is def moving towards larger ships these days. But that just makes it all the more fun to pull out a tiny pilot ship and buzz around those large slow moving bricks. I like the design, it's just mean and bad ash looking enough for my tastes. But then again, my personal preference is all iterations of the Vesta - not too big, not too small, and packs a good amount of bang. The shape reminds me of an exotic Italian Chriscraft speed boats. Wait, sorry, going waaaay off topic... LOL I know when you showed it up against the D'deridex I thought it would have been longer. Against the Oddy, my jaw hit the ground - it's so much shorter then I thought it would be. Yea, the windows on the nacelles is totally weird - I thought due to radiation concerns you want to keep personnel away from those area's, esp at warp (I always figured the nacelle room would be clear of personal when the ship was at warp or was heavily shielded to protect personal with strict limits on how long people could be in the nacelle room). LOL, love the idea of having a yuge number of warp cores and giving then escape pods, err, ejection ports on the bottom of the nacelles. The yellow bit's I thought would be a 10-forward like bar - but with Klingon style. Cryptic says they are looking for a new partner on 3D printing ships, let's keep our fingers crossed (I have a couple I'd like to have).

Was thinking the same. Also, I'd say phaser is just the human/federation name of the disruptor (think they both use nadion radiation to do things to make it shoot...?). Whereas the federation prefer to control the energy output for science and research reasons, the higher phaser settings have a disruption "kill/destroy" effect (lower being stun, heat etc.), and disruptors having one (?) effect: kill/destroy. Also the reason fed kinda skipped pulse weapons since it's harder to control the energy output the same way, until they introduced more combat oriented ships. May all be fan-fic, can't seem to find it again...

7:55 Since I recently brought this up, I do have to ask. How exactly does the lineage of the Andorian and Tellarite fleets translate into modern Starfleet? 14:50 Given how the nacelles on the original Enterprise had empty space between them because Matt Jefferies figured that they had dangerous radiation coming off of them these engineering compartments feel as though they would exactly the opposite of how they should be placed. The way that they are placed the most radiation is closest to the actual ship, whereas I would place them at the back. That way not only would no living sections be affected by delta radiation, you could also quickly jettison them should they overload.
