I bought Greg's cookbook last Christmas. I am not a bodybuilder but was overweight and my doctor told me I needed to lose weight. I was 18 and a half stone last January and am down to 16 stone at the moment. I was eating too much of the wrong things. The cookbook is actually very good. "sugar substitutes are worse than actual sugar" - currently the biggest lie in the fitness industry. I know people can cite studies linking sugar substitutes and cancer, but the same people don't seem to have the ability to cite studies linking sugar and diabetes. and diabetes is nothing to f**k with (I've had relatives die from diabetes). so in the end, one is just as bad as the other. if you need sugar, it doesn't matter if its real or a substitute. my rule is everything is okay in moderation. but also with diets, you can't depend on super-restrictive diets being a sustainable thing that you can follow for the rest of your life. In general, the more restrictive it is, the less sustainable it is.

To be honest the biggest concern is the addiction to artificial sweetening chemicals and food dyes. They are so bad for your overall health that i wouldnt recommend anyone has them, let alone people aspiring to compete as athletes, this is especially true for those using PED’s since that a big enough toll on health anyway. Its not going to affect the way they look on stage but it will have negative impacts. So the question is how you perceive the role of the coach. If it’s strictly him getting them stage ready this prep then he shouldn’t care, if its about giving his advice with their longevity in mind he should care. (I do understand the irony here considering their steroid use is going to have a greater negative impact, but thats not to say well X is bad so i might as well take everything bad)
