For me, Eye in the Sky is a hidden gem of a skill on ships that use Spotter plane. Getting 20% better range is nice, especially when double uptiered or T10 games where camping in or behind spawn is the name of the game. Another perk is the ability to make shooting at ships hiding behind islands easier. As for Demo Expert, I'm not fond of it, to almost hating it. In theory, having better fire chance is always better. But when you start thinking about it mathematically, the skill starts losing its shine. You're gaining 1 fire per 100 HE hits. So if you have a lackluster game and only get 200-300 HE shell hits, you're only starting 2-3 more fires. I frequently have games were I can hit enemy ships 40,50, even 60 times before I set even 1 fire. And if you're like me who has terrible RNG 75-90% of the time, is 2 captain points really worth it? And with my terrible RNG, when I do set a fire, a ship can DCP a single fire and between switching targets, like a DD suddenly popping up, or having to focus on dodging incoming fire, and my generally terrible luck, the enemy ship that used their DCP usually has their DCP back off cool-down. Another thing to keep in mind is fire chance reduction. T10 ships have a 50% reduction, which means Demo Expert is only really adding 0.5% to your own ships fire chance.

I disagree with IFA and PT comparison on cruisers. It's not how much enemies are targeting you, but it is the matter of *when* they're firing especially from enemy BB's. Unlike BBs where they need to expect to be shot at, and DDs who guaranteed to be shot as soon as you're detected. Then, you have less utility on countering torpedo with PT either because majority of cruisers have hydro (unlike BBs). Lastly, it's a one point skill where a lot of good skill choices available for cruisers but majority of them are expensive 3-4 pointer. Well, other than that it's matter of preference, I guess. I do, however, agree on the previous explanation for BBs for these 2 skills.

I think similar aswell on most of open water kiting cruisers/mauverable cruisers it is IFA and not PT, especially when your fast firering like nevsky you will sooner ir later, depending on skill and awereness, only focus on your target, at that point you eat dmg if you only saw that people are looking at you, IFA only tells you the important thing when sb actually fires and with that tells you the moment to manuver, and you can fully focus on hitting your shells.

My metric for taking Grease the Gears on cruisers is, can I out-turn my turrets? If yes, take it. Nothing more frustrating than dodging fire and not being able to fire back at the same time.

Exactly.

Take away shell switch time skill on dds and I find incoming fire alert is good on cruisers with bad armor usually light cruisers so you use it to dodge since you can’t angle with weak armor

I find AA Defence & ASW Expert is also handy on the Commonwealth cruisers, with their anti-sub focus that extra damage from their triple ASW strikes can obliterate subs after you light them with SS. Also very happy to see Trenlass specs his Radar Mino similar to mine, very much a DD hunter/killer. 😈
@meatpiman224Ай бұрын
Last stand - I look at armor at stern to take or skip. Consumable Enhancements - if radar is long duration it is meaningful buff, 15s radar, really not worth it imo. Eye in the sky, love it on cruisers that I rely on spotter to do work at comfortable range i.e. Perth and Italian cruisers. I used to take PT on pretty much everything, these days at 2 PTs rarely, just other priorities, agree it is powerful skill. Superintendent - for sure if they have heal if no heal then lean to SE. I will take super and not SE in quite a few ships where I want points for something else. Good discussion, ty, have some food for thought.

Not as good guide as for BBs imho. The RPF for cruisers is a game changer late game. ASW expert for pan-am cruisers is a no brainer. Faster torps for Jinan is OP and i could go on :)

Offcurse it is prefference but i almost never use PT and almost always use IFA if even considering one of both. IFA frees up a skillpoint which is very easy to spend on cruisers and you can focus more on positioning and aim if you know when you have to dodge anyway. Also i find it very hard to spot incomming fire if it aint in your targets direction or already far too close to react. I like playing stuff like zao on rudder and with that pt is useless to me bc i Dodge 90% of incoming salvos. IFA on the other hand lets me dodge perfectly and when kiting there are verly few rapid firing ships that fire at you and disturb that rule blinking is manuvering.
@diesonne0127Ай бұрын
I am rather surprised that you dislike incoming fire alert so much. In this meta there are so many sniping BBs. I find it really useful to get a hint when somebody shoots me from distance. Just one point.
@trenlass809Ай бұрын
its really not a big deal if you have a decent map awareness and the blinking can also be really annoying
@philipreber3314Ай бұрын
Awereness which then is not on manuvering and aim though. When i consider one of both skills i always go for IFA if the cruiser is manuverable bc then you can dodge, those which are not manuverable mostly dont need one of both or have enough armor and PT is a indicator of focus, although you kind of know that in most situations anyway, speaking of map awareness. If you are in manuverable cruisers you can fully focus on aim and position and react on all incoming fire where with pt you easily miss out on the long shots for very long bc they are visible very late and your not only shot from the direction of the target your shooting at.

I don't think you've said anything wrong here, per se - just want to emphasize that cruisers are the most situational class and therefore hardest to make generalizations about.

Wish: I would like to see more T6-8 Tech Tree ships (cruisers & BBs) - for ppl like myself who are basically FTP & don't have many Premiums. It's hard to relate to constant Mecklenburg vids when it's a ship I'll never own, lol. btw, I've never loaded Incoming Fire on any ship - if I'm spotted, I just assume I'm being fired at & act accordingly, especially in a cruiser, lol - not only that, it would simply stress me out - I'm processing enough info as it is, I don't need to know if I'm about to be splatted, I already assume that, lol, besides, there's a mod you can add that will let you know the same thing without spending a skill point.
@philipreber3314Ай бұрын
How is this mod called? And IFA tells you the exact moment of incomming fire so you can chill until fired at which lets you dodge more salvos bc you react faster and often are less expected to react if you sailed in a almost straight line for the last minute.

2:25 When torp speed is increased, isn't detection increased too? I thought I tested that a while ago and found torp detection increased with speed increase.
@cristopherpikefanАй бұрын
No detection does not increase with torp speed. the only thing that increases as a side effect is the arming distance of torpedoes
