My great grandparents came from Treorchy to Pennsylvania in 1852. I remember listening to the Welsh hymns at the Presbyterian Church in Scranton when I was a boy. Now, I'm a choir director myself, and the sound of this choir brings tears to my eyes. After a lifetime of making music, I'm so proud of my Welsh heritage. I've got a red dragon on my car's rear window.

Why is it anger, O Myfanwy, That fills your eyes so dark and clear? Your gentle cheeks, O sweet Myfanwy, Why blush they not when I draw near? Where is the smile that once most tender Kindled my love so fond, so true? Where is the sound of your sweet words, That drew my heart to follow you? What have I done, O my Myfanwy, To earn your frown? What is my blame? Was it just play, my sweet Myfanwy, To set your poet’s love aflame? You truly once to me were promised, Is it too much to keep your part? I wish no more your hand, Myfanwy, If I no longer have your heart. Myfanwy, may you spend your lifetime Beneath the midday sunshine’s glow, And on your cheeks O may the roses Dance for a hundred years or so. Forget now all the words of promise You made to one who loved you well, Give me your hand, my sweet Myfanwy, But one last time, to say “farewell”. Just beautiful!

My Grandfather was from Rhondda and moved to Birmingham for work after the pit collapsed in Aberfan he established the Welsh Chapel in Birmingham what we never knew was he was awarded the VC in WW2 saved two men under machine gun fire then tried to save a third but was shot but still carried on and took out the machine gun with grenade. Citation from his CO read never have I seen such bravery under fire and sheer desire to save his fellow soldiers from certain death knowing his own life was in mortal danger. His name is Reginald Thomas David Meredith his mother's name is Myfanwy This is a song I will never forget. RIP God bless Wales

Beautiful song. Although I'm technically English as I was born in Nottingham, I've spent most of my life here in Wales where I've learned how to speak the language fluently. This song always makes me think of the Miners' Strike for some reason and it brings a tear to my eye, even though I wasn't around back in the 1980s. But my family on my mother's side were deeply affected by the pit closures.

My dad died about a year ago. He lived in SE England and I went to the funeral. I cried all the way through it. I was the only one who cried. All the others stood there woodenly with expressionless faces. In fact I suspect they thought I was being affected. Most peculiar.
