The water keys are on the side because they are not just water keys they are alo used to help you with some notes in upper register when open. That's why it is accesibble with your little finger. :)

More expensive rotaries may have as many as 3 keys that are used to enhance the upper register.

It is great to see someone use the available technology to make objective arguments about an instrument, in particular a spectrum analyzer to look at the harmonic series and fundamental resonances of the mouthpieces.. nice work!

Wow. Much more objective observations than I've ever seen on a trumpet review. Maybe any review of anything. And at the end, you made an observation about the water keys that I was thinking about even though I've never played a rotary. Oh, and nice sound, mate!

So yeah it's a copy of the Original Rotary Valve trumpet that was made in Austria, and they did an amazing job replicating it to get that Iconic Austrian Sound that you'd also hear in German Oom-Pah Bands. It's also great for playing in a Jazz setting due to its smooth mellow sound so that you don't overpower the other instruments.
@RockStarOscarStern6342 жыл бұрын
These instruments are common on Germany and the Rotary Valves make it easier to play with precision. The other neat thing about the Rotary Valve Trumpet is that you don't need quite as much air to make a good sound on it. Yamaha makes affordable Rotary Valve Trumpets that are in amazing quality.

JinBao is a very functional trumpet; it covers all bases. It will not have the sound of the top brands, but neither is it the price. For $300, the JB is remarkably good, when you consider all the materials, equipment, craftsmen, skills, required to produce a functional horn at today's costings.

Thanks for the review. It was very helpful. Do you happen to have a specific recommendation for the mouthpiece that you switched to? Thanks!

Unfortunately the Rotary lost popularity in the world wars, because of association with Germany/Austria. The piston, from france/England/Russia was copied and mass produced in USA for the military bands and so we have the dominance of the piston in the west, where of course, jazz developed.

It's quite a Jazzy little Horn, and I think it should be used in Jazz more often.

You would want a different style, a TARV (top action rotary valve) like a Raweni or Ganschhorn, because these SARV rotaries are two handed instruments, and therefore not useful if you have to manipulate a mute while playing.

@@rtpwyk OK that is pretty cute as a portable horn. Now two things you have to remember. A rotary anything has a really short lead pipe compared to piston equivalent so you'll never get the same sound out of both, but that does not mean you wont like it. I did some digging the Jinbao rotary cornet is called the JBCR-1500. I can't see one on AliExpress ATM but what I would do is find an Ali store that sells lots of Jinbao and ask them if they would get one in at a good price. You can order from the factory but that is more expensive - go figure! Good luck, cheers Pete

@@TresMamboMusicSchool Ain't it the cutest? The JP Mini French Horns are also cute. They actually sound like a small french horn. Have intonation issues, but who brings a mini french horn to an orchestra? Maybe caroling where it doesn't matter as much since everyone else is gonna be flat anyways? I may punt for that Cornet, even though the piping looks very flugel hornish.

Interesting review! I will definitely check out the mouthpiece video, too. In my opinion the short leadpipe is the main design flaw of common rotary trumpets. However, the different tone characteristics give them some meaning. I have one with a water key on the lower side of the tubing and don’t like it, because I don’t reach it with my pinkie. I agree that good rotary valves are an advantage for faster passages. Unfortunately, up to now that was expensive. And cleaning these is difficult, I‘ve never done that myself.
