I had two nightmare neighbors when I lived in an apartment a few years ago. The first one threw my kitten out of their balcony down to the streets below which was on the third floor and my cat went over to theirs because the kids was standing and lured the cat over. The other threw boiling coffee at the other cat. Fortunately, both survived that, but are still very scared to this day.
@Flufferz6263 жыл бұрын
That is awful. That being said especially in urban apartment setting do not let your cats wander outside unsupervised. For both the cat's safety and health and that of native wildlife.

Back in high school, we had a pretty varied friend group. Our house was pretty much the midway point between everyone's houses, so seeing friends on our street was normal. I was dating one of those friends at the time, Bobby, and he was the typical grunge skater guy the 90s glorified. He was also notoriously mischieveous and would often drive his mom bananas over his antics. One afternoon, I'm on our front porch with some other friends and suddenly, we see Bobby RUNNING up the street like hell was on his heels. We shout a hello, which he responds in kind but doesn't stop. Once he was out of sight, HIS MOM drove up the street behind him in her car and was shouting at him. My teenage years were closer to a sitcom than real life. That wasn't the weirdest thing Bobby did, by the way. He was a wild child.

I bought my home in fall of 2019, I absolutely love it, despite the work that was needed. While the moving truck was still there the cops show up and ask me if i was the home owner. Apparently, an older woman, around 60ish, who was watching from a few yards down, had called them to say squatters were moving into the house. Thankfully, my real-estate agent had just arrived with my documents for the sale. Over the next 2 years, she called the cops or fire department on me 7 time. Three for breaking social distancing guild lines by having people over. Once was a plumber to unclog my sewer line, another was contractors installing new windows and the last the gas company in to do an inspection on a new furnace and hot water tank that had been installed. She called then that I had taken down a tree on public land, I had to take down on old Oak tree beside my house, on my property because it was rotting in the middle. and twice she called the fire department, telling them i had an uncontrolled fire in my yard. I was BBQing. She also flipped out because I had a fence installed in my back yard and put a lock on the gate after someone was letting their dog in to crap there. Ended up having a cease and desist letter served to her. A few days after that her adult son came to my home to offer an apology/ She wanted to buy the house for her son and his wife to live in, but neither wanted to live near her.

My mom's parents lived in Thailand from the early 1950s to the mid 1970s, and the neighbors they had over the years were interesting, to say the least. At the time, northern Thailand was far more rural and hadn't modernized yet. My grandparents were the first non-Asian people most of their neighbors had seen, so they got stared at a lot, not out of hostility, but simply from curiosity. Most of the neighbors they had were very nice, but one set of them was underhanded. My grandparents went on a trip for a few days, and asked the neighbors to look after their dog. When they got back, the dog was missing. It turns out that the neighbors had cooked and eaten him. When the other villagers heard about this, the neighbors who had done the deed became pariahs (not for eating the dog, which was fairly common in that time and culture, but for betraying trust), and soon moved away. My grandma still gets sad when she thinks about the dog.

In 1998, my husband and I moved into a townhome and just a month later, I found out I was pregnant. When the baby was born, we had a baby monitor so as she slept upstairs, we could hear her downstairs. Here's the thing for all you young people that don't know, those old cordless phones your grandparents might still have, well sometimes they were on the same channel as baby monitors. We got to be serenaded every night to the sound of one of our neighbors having phone sex. Never did figure out who it was.

Neighbor With Shotgun: This is precisely why we have a steel security door and cameras all over the outside of our house. We repurposed an old but very large flatscreen TV to show a constant video feed from 9 different cameras. It's mounted on the wall in our main room where my desk is. Plus the front door has a motion-detection/video recorder mounted above it, so we get alerted to any movement there and get video/audio recordings of it saved to a service. After that, we have a Chow dog and my favorite weapon, a .454 Casull revolver. I suffer from PTSD and my wife is an electronics wiz, so she wired our house up to the point I don't freak out too much. Love that goddess of a woman.

My old neighbor, who I had lived next to since I was 4 , turned out to be a ‘ person who shouldn’t be around children’ (hopefully people know that) we didn’t know until I was 14 when people spray painted his cars with slurs and smashed his windows in. He also used to have 2 German shepherds, Ben who once dragged a poodle under the gate when it walked past, and molly who was an absolute sweetheart. After a couple months molly disappeared but Ben remained. Turns out he wasn’t actually allowed to own dogs, and he had one of the most violent dogs on the street . Thankfully now I have a nice neighbor minus the odd screaming child but I can’t really complain because I deal with my nephew lol

Late to this party. My family and I lived in an apartment for almost 12 years so we had seen a string of bad neighbors move in but one of the worst was when a middle eastern family move in. They are from the same country as my husband so I understood the wife’s restrictions and tried to help her were I could. My MIL does not speak English so I would ask my neighbor to translate at times. She once told me “I told your MIL that you are the nicest person and her son is lucky to have you… blah blah blah”. Come to find out what she really told my MIL is that “your son should divorce her she is just American trash who will leave you son for American d***” Needless to say I stop doing favors for her.

When we first moved into the place we're still renting, we had downstairs neighbours. We live in a house that's split. Upstairs and downstairs are sperate. They did several shitty things. First they would smoke in the doorway and the smoke always came up through the vents. Second they played the same two songs on repeat all the fucking time. So loud you could easily hear it in our living room. Third, their fucking alarms. Always went off at 8am and you could usually hear it for an hour plus every day. Fourth, their fucking dogs. They let the dogs out in the back yard but never picked up after them. Oh let's not forget the amount of times the cops came to our door, for noise complaints. . .

My husband and I lived in an apartment complex where our neighbors had dogs that barked day and night. It was so annoying. It didn't matter how nice we were about asking them to keep their dogs quiet they didn't seem to care. We worked nights at that time and we needed them to keep their dogs quiet duribg the day so we could sleep. Whenever we talked to them about it, they would sympathize with us, say they would keep the dogs quite, but never actually did. The worst thing about this was that our neighbors were my husband's sister and her husband.

Not really a nightmare neighbor, we are actually kind of good friends now. But when I moved in, the first few months, my downstairs neighbor would listen to music so loud and with so much bass, my wine bottles would just skip to the side of the table when I ate. Had to move it back to the middle multiple times when ever I had wine. Then I began vacuuming early in the morning, and it stopped.

Once when i was younger we had a neighbor who was trying to kill my aunt and didnt care if we were killed too. It started over an arugment that they both had like a day before and then i guess when she saw my aunt in our car, which had my grandmother two borthers(who were both under6) and me( at least 5) in it, she thought it was a great time to try and kill her. she was in another car driving down the street when she saw us and she used her car to slam into ours(which was parked in our drive way). she then tried to get away by speeding to the police station because my uncle, who was outside the car and saw the whole thing, got in his car and chased her. While that was happing someone called the cops and an ambulance. My grandmother was the only one that was hurt and she had to be rushed to the hospital.That lady ended up doing time and having to pay my grandmother for pain and suffering. She refused to move so we were really never able to play on our street again after that until she moved when we were in middle school.

The old guy complaining about the noise was probably a Schizophrenic having auditory hallucinations. One of those cops should have sent him in for a Psych evaluation. I have a cousin who was furious at the neighbor who kept banging on the pipes all night. It was pretty tragic when he finally realized it was all in his head. He said "I don't want to hear noises, I just do". He was so sad when he said that.

I have three bad neighbor stories, one from when I was a kid and two from adulthood. When I was 9, we lived in an apartment in the back of the building on the main floor. Based on how the buildings in our apartment complex at the time were designed, we had a unit above us and a unit below us. Both units had POC tenants that liked to play their rap music loud. The couple that lived downstairs were polite about it; you asked them to turn it down, and they kept it turned down most of the day. The woman who lived upstairs, however, was the polar opposite. She yelled at my mom, called her a sexually overactive female dog, and slammed the door in my mom's face. My mom called the cops and the woman would not open the door to any of the White cops they sent. My mom pleaded with them, saying to please send a POC cop. They finally did, but she still wouldn't open the door to them. She would play her rap music really loud at all hours of the day. Made it hard to sleep, I couldn't concentrate on my homework, and after a few months we finally moved. A year after we moved we received a copy of her eviction notice. Apparently some new tenants moved into our old apartment and complained. I guess my parents were called in as witnesses or something, I'm not sure. When I was in my early 20s, I moved into an apartment with an old friend. We were on the main level in the front, and had a unit above ours. We had three different tenants in that unit during the two years we lived there. The first tenant was a POC man who lived by himself, and his girlfriend and her son would visit on the weekends. The only complaint I had with him was a couple of times if his girlfriend was cooking, she'd use a meat mallet to pound some steaks or chicken breasts flat. The second tenant was a White woman who was a Waffle House waitress and her teenage gangsta-wannabe son. We'd often have music battles with them. She liked to play Deana Carter's "Strawberry Wine" really loud along with other country music. He liked to play gangsta rap. I had a decent stereo system, and my roommate and I combined had a decent CD collection with almost every genre covered. When the mom played her country music, we countered with rap (roommate had a couple of Eminem CDs and I think a Snoop Dogg CD). If the son played rap, we countered with Shania Twain or Alan Jackson. Sometimes we'd break out the classical (I had a few compilation CDs), classic rock (I had several CDs as did she), and I told my roommate if we wanted to get really ugly, I'll break out the secret weapon: I'll play The Chipmunks' "Witch Doctor" or the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird" on repeat. I had a Dr. Demento CD that had various novelty songs including those two songs, Alan Sherman's "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah", and others. The son also had a bunch of gangsta-type people showing up at all hours of the night, hanging out in the breezeway and on the stairs to the upper level. They kept us up many nights, and it got to the point where my roommate and I would make sure the cats were shut up in my bedroom, open the door to our apartment, and then sit at the dining room table and either chat among ourselves, read, or play some board game or card game. After maybe 15 minutes of this the crowd would disperse. We would also find all kinds of crap in the bushes in front of our patio. Some of it was kitchen stuff, and other was drug paraphernalia. I remember finding a couple of dime bags in the bushes, and a used condom. Can't remember if I found any syringes. The third tenant was a POC woman who was probably in her 30s with a little girl maybe 4 or 5 years old. She would jump on her bed on occasion, but otherwise we never had a problem from her. Back in 2015, I moved into an apartment complex that was very close to work. I was living on the main floor, in the back. One of the tenants that moved into my building was a young guy, probably 10 years younger than me. He had a pitbull-shepherd-whatisit mix of a dog with him he named "Scrappy". The dog seemed very friendly and starved for attention. And he barked all night and all day. I told the guy about it, and he apologized, saying he gets lonely. I told him if he's going away for the weekend, I'd be happy to look after Scrappy. Either give me a copy of his key, or else bring the dog over to me and I'll keep him in my apartment. He'll only be alone when I'm running errands during the day, and I hardly go anywhere at night, unless I wanted to go out to eat. I also suggested leaving the TV or radio on for him, ideally tuned to a channel with all talk, like any of the news channels. The guy also liked to work on cars, and he told he and some of the other tenants time and again if we needed any basic work done, he'd do it for us; just pay for the parts. I thanked him but said I prefer to take it to the dealership where I bought it. He had a lot of broken down cars in some of the parking spaces in front of our building, which was actually in violation of the lease. He was forced to give up Scrappy when he jumped up on one of the ladies who worked in the management office when she was showing his apartment to some prospective tenants. I thought it was wrong; he was just greeting them and wanted some attention. He later moved out.

Hubby and I have been living out here on the farm for the past 27 years with absolutely no neighbours for a mile in any direction. For the entire four years we've lived in this apartment, we had a family directly downstairs that would slam the closet doors so hard it would shake my bedroom, the front door was slammed so hard it shook the whole building, and there were eight apartments attached to this building alone, and it shook the whole damn building. This was CONSTANT. And nearly every night during the warmer months, what I assume was the dad would sit outside my bedroom window with his lady friend screaming like some crazed preacher man; 'In the name of GOD, in the NAME of God!' My guess is the landlords got tired of the complaints, one day a month ago they just had suddenly a U-Haul outside. We partied when they were gone, but they made sure to make their displeasure with our reporting them known by throwing some gunk at my window.

This is a long time ago and I am 16F this happened when I was like 6. We had a pair of neighbors who were just the worst. The husband Offered me and my brother motorcycle rides though(our grandpa let us ride his motorcycles with him so we gun ho about going with the neighbor). Mom got the gut feeling and never ever left us alone with them, probably with good reason. They reported our Milk weed plants as unsightly weeds! They reported us for having 'trash' in our yard when it came from the local Teenagers. They tried to make us pay for their help when we casually mentioned we were chopping down a Dead birch tree in the back yard and a dying pine in the front. We didn't ask for help we just mentioned we were doing it. They reported people for loud noises when it was literally our dogs barking at night when someone was trying to BREAK INTO OUR HOUSE. They purposely provoked our dogs into barking and then call them dangerous. (We have Pittbulls who just want to be cuddled and to have ALL the attention.) We were glad to see them go and now we have awesome neighbors who are just the coolest(because they leave us alone-)

The old dude jiggling the doorknob at 12am reminded me of a story. So my brother and I were renting a condo. Every so often, someone would get off on the wrong floor, run up to our door, then realize it was the wrong floor. Mostly kids running up, then parents going "Oops this is the 4th floor, we needed to get off on the 6th" Then one day, bro was home alone, sitting on the couch. He didn't hear anyone come down the hall or anything. But suddenly, the door handle started to turn VERY slowly. Like someone was testing the door. Luckily, we keep the door locked even when home. We moved the moment our lease was up.

This is going to sound ridiculous. True Story! We brought a rabbit home for the kids. It was a rescue - litter trained and basically had run of the house (no poo-poo presents) We bought a harness for the rabbit and would take him outside. He did really well on the lead and was able to hop about and happily nibble on the grass and get some fresh air. We generally did this while gardening. Our neighbor has an adult son that would visit on the weekends. He also had a very large golden lab that he refused to put on a leash. While trimming hedges I heard the most gawd-awful screech. (The very first time I've heard a rabbit scream) I turned around to see our rabbit in the mouth of the dog. Within seconds, the dog broke our rabbit's back and he died right away. My neighbor's son came to retrieve his dog and when we told him what happened, he said..."Who the hell takes a rabbit outside?" And then went to his car, loaded his dog, and peeled out of the driveway. His parents said much the same, how we were irresponsible for taking our rabbit out. (On a leash and in our garden) It's been decades since this happened and I think I still get angry over it when I think about it. 🥵

I lived with a family member for a bit. At one place their neighbors shot out my csr windows & denied it. They also tried to burn down my chicken coop & denied it. The cops did nothing about it. Their other next door neighbor threw mothballs, which are highly toxic & a carcinogen, all over her yard to "prevent snakes" (they don't). Her yard reeked! She also had a ladder on the fence so she could look over & see what the kids were doing. I cussed her out for creeping on the kids. My family members neighbor across the street was ok but always came over to "borrow" stuff. Like one time she was having a party & came over to borrow ranch dressing! She borrowed pans, toilet paper, sugar, I could go on. It was extremely annoying. Needless to say I'm glad I don't have any neighbors now.

That happened when I was little. But it stopped when my dad talked to them. Because my dad had a infamous life style. Which means don’t cross him or you might end up wishing you were never born. So that neighbor never tired to cross that line ever.

I've had crazy neighbors, landlords, etc... but I just moved back in December into a brand new building. I was assured it was quiet and lovely... and it WAS. Then ppl moved in. Its family housing and although I keep my 10 yo quiet, make him walk quietly...just being polite... the other neighbors didn't care. There were 3-5 kids running in the halls ALL DAY. I learned that the floors, ceiling and walls have the sound-proofing of tissue paper. Anyway..Christmas day rolls around and my son and I left at about 8am to head to my mother's for the day. We got home around 3 and he was sitting at the table playing with a toy he'd gotten and I was on the couch relaxing when there was a knock on my door. I answered and it was a very nice young lady from downstairs. She lived directly beneath me and first she apologized for bothering me on Christmas and began to explain how much noise we've been making. Stomping, running, yelling... ever heard the toilet flush, which (to her credit) she said wasn't our fault, so I wasn't sure why she brought it up. Anyway..I listened quietly to her list of times and noises she'd experienced all day, and when she finished I said, "Im really sorry it's been so loud today, but I just walked in the door. I haven't been here since 8am. I think you're hearing the kids running in the hallway." * SILENCE * We just stared at each other for a few seconds and then she said, "Well I heard you banging around at 2am." I said, "No you didn't. We were both sound asleep... we're in bed by 9 most nights. I'm telling you... its the hall or other apts." She just turned around and went down stairs...I got some lovely looks for a few weeks. Moved out about 2 months later. Thing is...my son and I are probably the quietest apt in that bldg. I listened to the couple above me for 6 months. Older couple... she was abusing the ṣĥıṭ out of the guy, and their dog barked incessantly till between 12 & 3am. I called the cops once for barking (at 2am) and once for abuse. Nothing was done about either. Other neighbors reported her screaming and violence to mgmt & cops. Nothing was done. I put up with it for quite a while (had about 14 recordings of her verbal & physical abuse). It was so loud you could hear every word through my ceiling. I just wanted evidence in case someone decided to do their job. I told the bldg mgr again and he said... dont worry they're moving. End of the month comes and goes...I check again. Don't worry... its THIS month. This went on for 3 months... and they finally left. So now the apts above and below me are empty and I've NEVER been happier. Lol

There were these teens in our neighborhood that stole Halloween decorations every year. We knew who they were we even called the police but each time they would only get a slap on the wrist and do it again. One day a neighbor was cleaning their shotgun when they saw these teens backing a pickup into their lawn to steal a statue. They went outside shotgun in hand and asked the young men if they were lost. Boy howdy! Them boys jumped in their truck leaving track mark on the lawn as they sped off. The neighbor made a report, them teens were charged with vandalism and made to re sod the grass. Decorations never went missing in that neighborhood again.

I had drug dealers living next door. They were also loud, bitchy, constantly screaming at each other, and threw garbage into my yard. Everybody else on the street thought they were just a "nice young couple." Horrible people.

This happened a few years ago so my cousin just got a new car and put speakers in the trunk so he came to my house to show me my sister mom dad and uncle. So I now this is going to sound bad but he put the volume high for like 2 minutes nothing happened. Until this lady walked through a neighbors backyard and started yelling at us. I was baffled by the language she was using cause I was in like 5th grade so then my dad started cussing at her. My mom told us to go inside so we did and I don't know what happened but she left and everyone went inside.

Watching while my neighbour's kids are banging on the wall

I had a neighbour when I was younger that must have lived with his ear to the wall. Because whenever I was home sick from school, if I sneezed, he'd bang on the wall. Sometimes I wonder if he hurt his hand, because my family has this "thing" were we don't sneeze once, we sneeze at least 3 times. On the 3rd or whichever following number, he'd be banging like the wall was a drum

I have a neighbor who accused me for having let my dog poop on his doorstep He had apparently seen over a couple weeks that when I had online school I had our old sick dog at home with me as I went out on quite a few short walks a day because her medicine made her pee a lot. A few weeks later he found the turd on his doorstep and when the neighborhood meeting (sorta like a HOA but definitely not strict with any bs rules) came around he accused me of letting our dog poop on his doorstep and not picking it up. What he didn’t expect was that my mom wouldn’t shut him down immediately with one simple fact: Our dog died about a week before he found the poop RIP Bianca, best bitch I’ve ever known It most likely was either one of the outdoor cats or the lady that lives 5 minutes away that thinks our neighbourhood is the perfect place to make her dogs toilet

Second neighbour story. I have been there. I had a downstairs neighbour who would have parties almost daily, they were unemployed on benefits at the time so they could have as many parties as they wanted without worrying about getting up the next day for work. This meant loud music from 6pm to about 5am, then from about 7am to the afternoon. A few hours break, then back on again that evening. I couldn't hear my own music even with HEADPHONES on. I felt like throwing my own party the day she moved out 😂. My downstairs neighbours have generally been nice since then. I don't want to speak TOO soon as have just had a couple move in downstairs this week, I haven't met them yet. Hopefully they're nice 😁.
@Weirdandwonderfull193 жыл бұрын
Btw I wasn't judging my neighbour for being unemployed, I just mentioned that to explain how the music would be on late as they didn't have to get up for work.
