That's funny, same people complaining are the same ones watching love and hip-hop, empire and power, etc and hood movies. But now all of a sudden after Black Panther was released pseudo woke people want to act like there can't be a balance for both positive and negative black images in the entertainment world. And Black Panther isn't the only positive black superhero out there, ever heard of Static Shock.

It's just a movie, people act like they can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. John Travolta is coming out with a movie playing John Gotti and I don't see one white person boycotting or complaining about how the movie might depict white people in a negative light. Black people have range, and should be able to play all kinds of characters good, bad, and evil without it being a representation of a group of people.

If you're going to say that because you've never personally seen any examples of good marriages, so therefore you don't believe in marriage, then you have to apply that same line of thinking to other arguments. For example, I could say "I've never seen good fathers in my life or in any of my friends lives, therefore I don't believe in fatherhood." That's immature & illogical reasoning. Come on now.

For all of y'all shouting "Amen" about Jason's views on Monogamy, y'all should be the same ones preaching safe sex. Oh, yeah. I'm goin' there. A whole lot of MEN agree with Jason, but won't use a condom to save their lives, then want to accuse the woman of "trapping" them. LADIES, you ain't innocent in this either. You should make sure that you are protecting yourselves as well, and INSIST that man use a condom. You don't believe in marriage or monogamy, then you can't be out here going raw in everything. This is why we have most of the problems we have among us now.
@simonsez17876 жыл бұрын
Brent Foster how do you make the connection from non-monogamy to sleeping with hella people, plus raw?? Lol. You gave like the extreme most worst case scenario. Like he said, you can sleep with one person at a time, far and few in between. Just don’t get married. You made a large leap as if marriage stops infidelity or repeated marriages (from starter marriages).
@brentduanefoster6 жыл бұрын
Karehma Simon Think about it. It's not as extreme as you may think it is. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be seeing as many single parents out here as we do. Obviously, that's not the sole reason for it, but it is a big contributor. Also, let's keep it real. Most men HATE using condoms. I don't understand why that is (Well, I do, but I don't), and they put the responsibility on the woman to be on the pill. It's seems like many people have taken the notion that being in a monogamous relationship is somehow restrictive and abnormal, because of the failed attempts. Well, what about the successful ones? Do they not matter? Are we that focused on the negative?
@simonsez17876 жыл бұрын
Brent Foster the answer to sexual health/ safety and single parent families is not marriage. It’s practicing safe sex and having a relationship with children involved that is active and responsible. Marriage is one path, but it has shown its not a cure for infidelity or people “growing apart”. Ask children of divorced parents, especially if they witness toxicity. The way you’re describing marriage, it sounds like a solution or preventive measure to these things... Idealism says it is... but it’s not. As far as marriage as a means for structure... it *would* be if marriage was practiced only for creating nuclear families. These days, people are marrying for “love”, romance, companionship, etc. I say that is the “wrong” reason to marry because not only can all of those things can become stale after a while, they can be achieved without a marriage certificate. When people marry to ward off loneliness, it doesn’t seem to work out, which I think is part of Jason’s point. It’s a fix of sort. One of the keys to relationship is honesty and the ability to adjust if things don’t work out. Even if that means dissolving it. Further, the marriages that are successful are actually “in progress”. It *may* be successful. How do you know? If success of a marriage is “in sickness and in health and until death due us apart”, then technically the marriage isn’t successful until someone dies lol... or someone is sick and their partner is a happy and fulfilled caregiver, which is also questionable. I know some great couples and I admire them. I have a few good friends who have married their best friend. But I don’t think that is credited to marriage. That is credited to people who work well together. Marriage is not a fix IMO, nor a framework for a great long-lasting relationship. The relationship is so because of the people. And btw, I do not envy (no pun intended) Envy’s nor CTG’s wives. That sounds like an arrangement, not a happy marriage... after all the cheating and relative obscurity the wives have? No thanks lol. 👎🏾 Brent, this is probably a chicken and the egg question in which we could debate what comes first: the solid relationship or the marriage? That determines whether marriage is truly necessary for some people. It’s okay to have differing views on that.

Karehma Simon Karehma Simon Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that marriage is the cure to all relationship woes. What I am saying is don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'm a firm believer that there are only two ways a marriage will end, death or divorce, and no one knows which one will occur, nor when it will happen. I agree with you about co-parenting, but the sad reality is that in many cases, there are so many damaged emotions from both parties, that it makes co-parenting difficult. I know this firsthand, being a product of a divorce. To keep things from going stale takes imagination and work, which is a main ingredient to a successful marriage. Long story short, I'm not advocating people staying in marriages for the sake of staying in. I'm simply saying that we shouldn't give up on the concept.

Brent Foster to not throwing the baby out with the bathwater: that’s fair. 👍🏾 I think Jason made a solid point tho: the key is honesty... one of em anyway. Now, I don’t know how he knows he’s “never getting married”. I don’t think you can know if you will or you won’t without a person with you to help evaluate that option. That’s the only discrepancy I find in his statement. But other than that, many people sell themselves a dream over the reality that forever is a mighty long time and many people can’t even keep a job longer than 2 years lol. I think it’s refreshing if people have a thoughtful attitude towards marriage rather than just agreeing to it’s concept just because. I’m glad he stuck to his guns on the matter.

coalcityIyke I think saying your against marriage is absolutely taboo at least that's what I understood he was saying. Anyone who says they are against marriage gets a negative stigma.
