I assume he was doing due diligence to make sure trevor was legit reporter, I'm sure the mafia had tried luring him out with similar tactics of meeting requests of some kind. In the criminal underworld anybody can be contacted just put word on street so & so is looking to meet & if they choose to meet they'll get in contact or approach. If not you let it be.
