The Carlos Watson Show

OZY Media’s third prime-time television show, 'Breaking Big,' explores the unexpected journeys to success of some of the world’s most influential stars.
First up? None other than Trevor Noah, host of 'The Daily Show' on Comedy Central. If you’ve read his memoir, Born a Crime, you know that the famed, mixed-race comedian grew up under apartheid in South Africa, where being mixed race was indeed a crime. Luckily for him, he had a strong parental figure to shield him.
Be sure to tune into OZY and PBS on Friday for revelations on how Noah’s mother, Patricia, escaped death not once, but twice. Watson and Noah discuss the abuse Patricia faced at the hands of her second husband, and her miraculous recovery from a gunshot to the head.
But this fiercest of moms - Noah once told Oprah Winfrey that he was merely his mother’s “punk-ass sidekick” - also faced down a Black racist taxi driver who threatened her and her children. The cabbie threatened Patricia’s life because she had a mixed-race child with her (Noah), and thus had obviously been with a white man. Check out the OZY Flashback by Sean Braswell about this scary incident here: ow.ly/iOYN30kCCmJ - and how Patricia and her boys had to throw themselves out of the moving vehicle to escape harm - as you gear up to watch 'Breaking Big' and learn about Noah’s journey to the top.
'Breaking Big' guests include chef Eddie Huang, actress Danai Gurira, country music star Jason Aldean, SoulCycle and Flywheel cofounder Ruth Zuckerman, fashion designer Christian Siriano and acclaimed author Roxane Gay, among many others.

OZY is your home of fresh stories and bold ideas. Our mission is to help the curious see the world more broadly and more boldly by vaulting them ahead of the traditional news cycle and introducing them to the new and the next. #LiveCuriously

@Jeremy toohey, I agree. His charisma is absolutely memorizing. He already is in fact; a "great leader", his honest, strait forward, grip of reality makes me less afraid of where America has gone the last two years. I cry knowing where our country has headed. I watch TDS to bring me back to reality, knowing sanity is worth fighting for, and we are not alone in knowing what needs to change, and how to accomplish the task.

I became a fan of Noah before Jon Stewart announced him as his replacement for the Daily Show. I love standup comedy and found Noah in YT. I saw one video and immediately looked for everything about him. I fell in love with his material. His outlook on life included me. How he related to his family included me. I found it fascinating that someone who is half white and half black all the way from South Africa had me rolling in laughter to the point my belly hurt yet we were worlds apart. I noticed how he turned what could have been traumatizing into comedy gold. When Jon Stewart announced his replacement I was surprised but immediately recognized why. Maybe because I wasn't an avid fan of the Daily Show (too busy in life to take such time off) or maybe from the little I did see of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert when I started to pay more attention to politics is why I understood that the outlook and humor of Trevor Noah would fit perfectly on the Daily Show. I found the backlash from the true avid fans of Jon Stewart interesting and never doubted that despite the numbers going down considerably that Noah was going to reach an audience that was massive compared to Jon Stewart. Noah can reach the world. Sometimes it is hard to give up your favorite for someone else. Sometimes it is never the same. Fans of Jon Stewart constantly tell me how much better Jon Stewart was. No, he came to the same conclusions in a different way and when he was Noah's age he was virtually unknown. He worked for that admiration for 17 yrs. Let's see 17 yrs from now where Noah will be. I'll be following him closely because I've become an avid fan. The day he chooses his replacement I'm sure I'll be disappointed. It will never be the same.

My perspective on Trevor's success is that he's not only extremely talented but also isn't entitled. He lived a much harder life than many yet he never got bitter. He's a very positive person. Instead of questioning his success, his peers should learn to adopt his positivity and humility.

I am a fan of Trevor Noah. After seeing some of his clips from The Daily Show on KZbin, I setup a Trevor Noah Playlist, yayeah I did!!! This "Trevor Noah - Breaking Big" ended right where I needed it, "Where do you see yourself 20 years from now?" "I don't do that; I focus on where I am TODAY." Amen, Trevor, AMEN!!! Today I am a single mom, widowed in a GA emergency room; raising 2 fabulous sons; celebrating my testimony going from wheelchair to walking and chasing 2 Special Needs sons - I'm loving it!!! Thank you, Trevor for giving me the chance to post my story!

I'm a nursing mother, had my son April 12, 2019. I'm sleep deprived 😴 💤 and going threw first mom growing pains. I turn to his shows, clips , docus and interviews. They make me laugh every time, keeps my sanity. He was doing politics before the show. Some of his best works about the ANC in Africa was amazing. He's built for the job, on the daily show.

I was sad. I just moved from a very Racist horrible place. I’ve been arrested. Almost raped. Living in a Beetle infected apartment. I found a new apartment but had no money to move. A family member helped me some but robbed me and I’m stuck not completely moved. I’m a Registered Nurse with a broken back. Breast cancer that Spread. I also have Scarscoid the disease that claimed Bernie Mac. My Heart is very weak. I have a severely delayed son with Autism. Then I’m listening to this and I hear Trevor’s mother say,” we must move on”. Then I realized I must move on. I need to finish moving and my Landlords want to keep my Security deposit. I will take her advice and move on. Thank You

What Trevor Noah is doing right now with his "Social Distancing" episodes is amazing. Not only a comedian, Noah is a well-rounded, wise and empathetic person. It is to be hoped that his broadcasting of the ludicrous and tragic (especially at this point in history) political grandstanding by Trump will educate a great many people. Let's elect a much much more intelligent and capable President next time around.

Best advise from Trevor "I wish i could give people the advise which is have a good parents.... You you take that for granted". I knew it that was never easy, because if it was easy everybody will be doing it.

The brilliant and brave man that Trevor is, is due to the world that his Mom showed him, even the one that, at the time, he was not a part off, she recognized that he would one day, be able to conquer it, Bravo Patricia ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Trevor Noah is born to rule his stage He is a genius man, very funny and eloquent He is lovable I fell inlove with him When I accidentally watched him in his you tube about accents Russian and Indian terrorism It brought myself laughing like crazy insane, very consistent His actions coming fr a mixed race British African His childhood ,apartheid and all He had himself laughing with his life story And most of his jokes being black is comedy in a level no one has done as radiantly funny to audiences. His accents, it is nvr annoying, constant jokes won’t take eyes off him Besides being handsomely sexy! Hope to meet you someday

I met this comedian about 4 months ago. He took over this job in 2015! All of the sudden, I see him in You Tube. He makes me laugh and we have something in common, poverty as children. I am not rich, but not that poor.

What i love about trevor mom say, let's not lose whom we are! and she forgive about the past. Even if she nearly risk her life for what happen, but she give peaceful and move forward. She is really respectful human being. Now i understand why you are so strong and powerful like this, you had her struggle and strength from her inside your body. Beautiful people, i really respectful.
