maybe this video has two approaches to the surveillance paradigm of the 21st century. the butterfly, nature, is distorted and disfigured by the videographer. the very act of recording it takes its nature and distorts it beyond recognition while harming it. likewise, the human living in a dystopian surveillance state, always under a watchful eye, is disfigured and trapped by the Observers. there is a parallel here: in the barren wastelands of a heartless capitalist world, the scrutiny of the arrogant human warps and deforms all that is natural. as crafted in the lens of a camera, under the glass of our phones, in the lenses of our eyes, the world is only pretend. our perceptions are a superficial facade silhouetting what is true and what is beautiful. maybe there is a call to action here--to quell the cyclone of human anguish and misperception by looking within and without, and with a discerning eye, finding what's really behind the distorted glass.
