"They pay 'em 7 dollars an hour to clean up our feces." Trey, I doubt you'll ever read this comment, but THANK YOU for highlighting the injustice dealt to housekeepers/cleaning staff. Millions of underpaid people clean up after all our body fluids in hotels and other public areas, and hardly anyone even thinks to leave them a tip or at least say thank you.

I did a brief stint at a major hotel chain as a housekeeper. Pre covid. They paid 5$ per room. The expectation was that you could do 2 rooms per hour. Only way to succeed at that was to not really clean anything well. It's criminal to be that greedy. So yes tip...but the supervisor will steal the tips by going in first to strip the beds. Sigh

I have an airbnb and always thought the laundry list of check out chores was ridiculous, I had none of these for our guests. The only rule was no smoking or pets. We even had special instructions telling them to not worry about any chores (this is something they're paying us for and who wants to worry about that moments before they have to get on a flight home). Yet, somehow they would still take out the trash and make the bed, which I would need to undo anyways to wash it. My cleaning fee was $25 but it was reasonable compared to our comps.
@Tinasburrito666

I always strip our beds down and clean up when we leave air b n b’s and even hotel rooms. I have also never been charged an exorbitant cleaning fee though, either. For me it’s a respect thing, although I don’t expect everyone to do that. I just feel like it’s somebody’s home. And I am a guest in that home. And as far as hotels, I clean up every time because I KNOW they get paid dirt to clean up probably the most disgusting things you could imagine. Also- leave a tip in your room for your housekeeper.

After a bad air bnb I don’t think I’ll ever use them again. At least at a hotel there’s staff there to help with any issues you have , plus they’ll come and clean everyday. I think air bnb’s were cool when they were cheaper than hotels, but now they’re so expensive . I had one where it did not look like the pictures at all, was in a super creepy building, nothing worked right, they were late having it ready, and the AC was broken. Went to a hotel instead and it was fantastic

Same! I stayed in an Airbnb that only collected rainwater. We used a lot of the water because we brought our own water filter for drinking water. They said no flushing number #1, but didn’t put that in all 4 of the bathrooms. We couldn’t do laundry like they said was part of the amenities. Two weeks after we left we were charged, $1200. They tried to say we broke the water pump by using too much water and burning the motor. They said we left too much trash, but we couldn’t do dishes because of the water problem. We didn’t have to pay it, but I cleaned and scrubbed the entire Bnb before we left. We stayed 5 nights too. There was no instructions on calling if the water was low or the water pump situation or trash. They said leave the trash on the porch. It was the worst…

airbnb's used to be a great option for those on a budget or for groups that wanted to share one big place together. now, it's so expensive since many cities have started controlling and taxing the airbnb hosts. i've done my fair share of airbnb's to know what types i like to stay in and which ones to steer clear of, so i don't usually have particularly uncomfortable stays anymore. with the prices getting so high on them though, often times it's around the same price to just get a hotel where you can generally know what to expect depending on the type of hotel you're staying at. the area i travel to the most often, i've fortunately made good friends with an airbnb host after staying there a few times, so now i just contact him directly when i need a place to stay in that area. also, bedding is questionable no matter where you're staying...i never touch the comforters and sometimes even lay a towel over the pillow if i'm sus. and a good tip - before i leave any place, i always remove all the bedding and towels i've used and pile them on the floor. places are less likely to put the used sheets back on and it makes things a little easier for your underpaid maids.

Don't forget the host asking you to leave 5 stars at the end even though it wasn't clean. How are you going to ask someone to leave a good review? You earn good reviews, not ask for them. And if their stay was exceptional (not just average) they will write one. If a host (or hotel) asks me to do this, I will rate them lower and mention this. Crazy how some don't understand this.
@Kattywagon29
@Kattywagon29 Жыл бұрын
Speaking of stars/reviews...We recently stayed to days at a VRBO rental. We were bopping around Costa Rica and were coming from an Airbnb stay to the new location. It was supposed to be a 5 week stay, but the place was terrible for a variety of reasons. Anyway, when we got there and realized the unpleasant conditions, we reached out to the host and asked to change the reservations to only stay a week because we were trying to be nice - figuring this guy was expecting a certain amount of money from us. We didn't complain, just gave some excuse that sounded reasonable. He said he would give us back 80% of our money and asked us not to leave a bad review and in return he wouldn't leave US a bad review for changing our reservations after arrival. Well, long story short, conditions continued to deteriorate, and we realized there was no way that we could make it through a week of bugs, leaks, faulty appliances and so on. We left after two days to a much nicer and more expensive (sometimes you get what you pay for) Airbnb. He ended up giving us back 100% of our money after we explained the situation.

I have to say that I stayed in a private room airbnb in Charleston, SC and had a wonderful experience - the couple left me alone but we still chatted about the area during my stay.

You just have to find one that’s a super host. As a single female traveler I like staying with a nice lady in some places that will give me local tips and they often have a nice lil continental breakfast and one lady even baked me banana bread muffin! 💖

a list of things we're doing while checking you in: putting your id info into our system, checking your profile notes so we know what your room preferences are, taking a pre-authorization for the cost of your stay, finding answers to the fifty questions you ask us while we're trying to do the rest of the check-in procedure, adding all your accompanying guests and their IDs because you didn't put them on your reservation and we can't give them keys unless they're on the reservation, and more.

Leave a tip for the housekeeper before you leave your room to check out. Also strip the bed sheets and pillow cases and put them all in a pile to save them time. Do the same with the towels you used
