What a machine. Excellent looking model. I tried to bid on one on ebay recently but was never in the race. Another model that has increased in value. What a motor. Great vid Oscar.

Thank you Steven. Sorry to hear you missed out on eBay. These Hornby Dublo models are definitely from a bygone age. That may have been so to by the mid-60s as the age of mass production kicked in! They really were built to last. The Tri-ang models have a very disposable feel to them in comparison! progress always comes at a cost somewhere down the line. Thanks again for watching Steven and taking the time to comment. Oscar

Nice heavy model of a fairly accurate model of a west country locomotive. I was given one of these a couple of months ago that had been in a cupboard and never been used. I was totally amazed to get it in nos. Mine is an original HD version without the Hornby lable of the clearance versions! I always wondered why Hornby never made a match coach to go with the wagons?

I can remember the Trix west country about the same time, is was an amazing model and very heavy.

Lovely stuff. I have Dorchester made by Wrenn, almost identical apart from metal wheels all around.

All those lovely lovely screws! Lol. Never known anyone to appreciate old screws so much! Great vid though. I like the jazzy lounge music and your appreciation for older 00 loco's. I'm starting to like them more than I used to. I model in P4, 00 & N so I do some finescale stuff and sadly am a bit of a rivet counter but these older examples have a different attraction I like.

Another “gem” of a video Oscar. And a bit of a rare find, that wonderful rebuilt West Country “Barnstaple”! You are right when you said it appeared only in the 1966 catalogue of Triang. Also correct in saying it was a Hornby Dublo surplus after that company’s demise carried forward to Triang to clear stocks. Interestingly (to me, as I’m a devout Dublo fan), is that it inherited the Hornby Dublo catalogue number 2235 into the Triang range, to become R2235. And the converter wagons were a godsend at the time. Indeed now, I’ve repatriated and restored the open wagons to allow me to run my Dublo wagons behind Heljan locos, and my elderly Dublo N2 to pull some of the fine detailed coaches. All very eclectic but fun! Last word on this loco, engineered in the true sense!

Hi Andrew. that's great to hear you enjoyed the video and that you a Dublo fan. Some of the Hornby Dublo building also appeared in the catalogues in the late 60s and they seem to have held onto there HD catalogue numbers and gained the R prefix too. It's odd the locomotives only appeared in the 66 catalogue. In the 67 catalogue p24/25, there is one of Tri-angs great studio photographs the showing part of a supposed layout there are a number of Hornby Dublo locomotives in this picture as well as building. The locomotives do not appear to be listed in the catalogue. It's a great picture! It would be great to know how they priced these disposal items compared to Hornby Dublo. You railway sounds great putting all items to good use. I have to admit I have a small number of Hornby Dublo items myself! When we had a local Model Railway Shop they had a fantastic second had Wall! and I all to often got tempted by these great models. Sadly the shop is no longer there. And my Hornby Dublo collection has come to a halt. (probably for the best) you can see some of my modists Hornby Dublo collection here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iafJq3RqdpiUnpY sorry about the size of screws holding the track down! Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar

Nice Vid. Thanks for sharing ....Just got my Barnstaple out of it's (blue) Hornby-Dublo box after 60 Years! Had it for Christmas 1962 and only having a 3 rail layout at the time it's been in the loft ever since. So have recently built a railway to put it on. It can be seen in all it's splendour on youtube - "South Park Model Railway""

That's right there was a period in the late 60s early 70s when these models were technically Tri-ang Wrenn I think by this point they had the Tri-ang D shaped couplings also and there was a range of wagons too. I think Wrenn was sold off with the financial problems Tri-ang Hornby had in the early 70s my knowledge of this is not what it should be! I think anything in this small Tri-ang Wrenn range will be very sort after. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar

Thanks David. Tri-ang only had them in the catalogue for the one year. And it's unclear how many Hornby Dublo 2 rail models were made or leftover when Tri-ang acquired Hornby Dublo/Maccorno in the mid-60s. It would be interesting to know how these models were offered to the dealers and on what terms! Oscar

Really enjoying these video's, great to see these in-depth chats about some really lovely rolling stock and locomotives - But! Is there any chance that the "lift-musak" could be dispensed with? It's very distracting and dare I say, annoying! These excellent video's really don't need this in the background and would be far better without it.

I brought a few H0 Jouef inox coaches this week that had the same coupling. I bet they are older then the rest of my inox TEE fleet do to they have different (color) bogies, and a huge brass screw holding them and the couplers (not weak clips). Good thing i had a few scrap french locos to replace them to normal (EU) couplers. For some reason these older coaches look better made, even their tamponing is more readable (?and they have interior unlike the later ones?).

Good afternoon Tom I've just had a look at the style of coaches you mentioned. Fantastic looking rolling stock. What sort of age are the Jouef coaches? And are these type of coaches still in use on the rail network? Oscar

I don't know the actual date, but according to their boxes they where in production from the late 60's till the mid 80's. And NO! nor the loco CC 40100, or the coaches are in service, the last was withdrawn in 1996 and the last TEE train departed in 1995.

Oscar the parts on the boiler with the pipes on that you didnt know what they are, these are clack valves. The pipes go to the water feed injectors and force water into the boiler? The clack valves only allow the water to travel into the boiler so that high pressure water and steam cant escape.

Hi Oscar, just bought a three rail Dorchester for 200 pounds, very good condition. Question? do you or any body out there. How do you reverse the direction on this model? Why would I want to do this. Answer I have 15 three rail Hornby locos and over the years I have changed the magnets to neo magnets and at that time made sure that that they ran all the same direction with central rail + dc on a C3 controller. On running my new engine I find it runs in reverse to the controller direction. Taking a look at the Dorchester motor I am at a loss on how to swap the magnet around . Any answer welcome . Like your site very much and the content. Regards
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Жыл бұрын
Good morning, great to hear you have a Dorchester in your collection, a model I'm on the look out for myself. It sounds as though the magnet has been magnetised the wrong way around at some point in the past when it has been serviced. If you have a look at the link I've sent you, Ronald Dodd demonstrates a locomotive running in the wrong way around, be magnetised in reverse. I'm pretty sure the magnet needs to be removed from this motor/ and similar motors to re-magnetise it as there is not enough access to it when assembled. When disassembled, if the magnet will go back in, turned around it should run the other way. Take plenty of pictures of the motor before disassembly, to help when reassembling, I always find this helps enormously. Hope this is of some help. Oscar kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6rcgX55fcZjnbM

@@oscarpaisley Thanks Oscar, I had a go at this before I received your answer. The strip down is a little more trouble than the older upright motors with the fiddle brush springs and 4 screws that hold the magnet in the housing. Being an old retired electrician I should have no problems, ok , after dropping the said magnet I had no idea it’s correct orientation. So of course I assembled it in the same position with the same results as before. I turned the magnet with the red dot to the bottom and then finally got it after about 4 goes. I got very good at reassembling the motor and brush springs ,after all that practice and everything ok now. Thank for your advice, regards John
