My favorite snake also! Thank you for making a clear distinction between the 2 snakes and encouraging folks to know their snakes and their benefits.

I love snakes. Thank you for encouraging people not to kill them! I knew about the color and the tail vibration, but have been confused about the shape of their heads. This clears that up! (BTW, I've found several copperheads on my property and don't kill them either.)

It is awesome you let the Copperheads have their space too! Not many people do! I think they are beautiful!

Cool snake, I have garter snake living in my food forest. I told him he was welcomed as he eats the pests, but I did ask him to not come out if my mother was around, terrified of snakes. So far he listened. Thank you for pointing out relocated animals usually do not make it. I have woodchuck that I am trying to live with, blood meal seems to keep him away from garden. people tell me to catch and relocate, I try to educate that it is a death sentence when you relocate wild animal.

Sounds like great all around stewardship...and even the garter snake respects your mom's space! I am working on a video now on Toads! If I go out after 9 pm I can find 4 or 5 American Toads every night!

That snake had round pupils. When I was a kid (in the 1960s) I once read that all venomous snakes in the United States, except coral snakes, have slit pupils, not round. Of course, if you see an unknown snake in the wild, it may be best not to get close enough to check.
@natureatyourdoor Жыл бұрын
Actually the venomous snakes that have eyes like suits can also make them round at times!

I found a pure white with black stripes snake in my field. It was a baby, only a couple of inches long. It looked like the California corn snake, but the head was different. I am not finding a picture of it in any identifiers for snakes in Maine. I'll have to see if I can find the picture we took and send it to you. The stripes were solid and the white area was snow white. I am always finding baby snakes around the yard and we have some that are pretty big, but they stay hidden. I don't kill them, but I have a hard time convincing my son that they need to stay in the wild. We are always picking them up and relocating them around the place, but he wants to keep them 🤣

Venomous, not poisonous! Poisonous is if they are toxic to eat.
