B'twin has a new bike in its 2017 range ! it's name : triban 100 . It's a gravel bike but also a really cheap road bike ! When I saw it I knew I had to test it on a mountain bike trail to see if it can resist this experience !
In conclusion , this bike has pros and cons:
+ :
+Frame
+ Fork
+Tyres
+Position
- :
- Drivetrain
- Brakes
Again I'm not a pro rider nor a pro film maker ! It's just for Fun ! Enjoy !

Thanks for this amazing vid and other vid build on this bike and your responses to the comments. Finally got the triban rc100 (the newer version) and manage to install 11-36 cassette paired with altus m310 and hacked the AO50 to become a friction shifter. It works perfectly. With 38t chainring and 35mm tire, it’s now a budget adventure bike that is more than enough with my type of ride. Many Thanks sir. from PH.

Thank you for showing us the capability of this bike. I am just an older rider who is looking for a light weight comfortable budget bike for going on day long tours on the paved and crushed stone pathways around my city. I think this is a great choice for a recreational 60+ rider who isn't going to beat the bike too hard.

Bought my B-Twin Triban 100 literally three hours ago, used for a great price. Took it to the hills immediately and I love it so far! Still working with indexing the gears and adjusting the stem and dropbar angle, but it's wonderful. Great review! BTW I do agree that the brakes are quite soft and lack bite, I'll definitely replace the pads and see if that helps.

I think riding with SPD shoes should be much better for you. When i first tired them i can't imagine riding with normal shoes anymore, it's just much more power efficient and comfortable. One year ago i bought CX bike full aluminium with sora road components for 2.5 times more money than triban 100 but if i had to choose now then i would choose triban 100. I like cheap parts, drivetrain on triban 100. You can ride on all terrain without worrying for expensive road components. It's unusual for gravel bike to be that cheap and it is also quite light. I like steel fork because steel fork is flexible working as suspension. Maybe i will buy this bike later.

Hey, do you think we can replace the front chainring to a smaller size? If I put a 38 in the front, it would be much easier to ride all around (like a very cheap 1X version of a SRAM lo)...Great review btw, love the music...:)
@TrailsonWheels
@TrailsonWheels 5 жыл бұрын
Hey ! Thanks ! I don t think you can change only the chainring on this cause it s really cheap so don t think shimano has other size on this model. But yoy could easily change the hole chainset and choose one with 38. You can even take a mtb chainset and even with 3 chainrings and get rid of 2 of them. Just make sure it fits to your bottom bracket and adjust the size of your chain. Hope it helps a bit.

Hi ! I did not expect someone could compared a 260 euros bike with a 700 euros ! So no surprise I would go for the riverside 920. I mean for the city, both bicycle would work fine, but on gravel and mountain tracks, you'll be much better on the 920, especially with the 11 speeds, the suspension fork and mavic wheels! Defenetly more confortable and ready to climb !

@@TrailsonWheels actually I'm comparing the 920 with the new triban 120. Both 6/700 euros. I'm not sure if go with a gravel or a more comfortable 920. In your opinion wich is a better choice?
@TrailsonWheels

@@StefanoGinnetti Oh I see the new Gravel one ! Well, for Gravel and city I would go for the 120 because of the geometrie, but it is pesonnal. I still think the 920 has better components with better group set and wheels which is a game changer for your mountain track, especially if it's hilly ! The 120 is the new gravel bike from B'twin, I like the Idea but I think components wheels + groupset is not great quality... So if you don't mind about the geometry of the bike go for the 920. Hi, the Triban 100 and Riverside 500 are 2 very different bikes ! The triban 100 is a road bike so you'll be faster in general! For the rest the Riverside 500 is way better in terms of confort and you'll have more gears . It has disc brakes and front surpension which is way better if you want to go offroad . I like the triban 100 better because of the sporty position but the Riverside 500 is better in terms of components and confort.

Hi ! If you want to have fun on trails and practice with a real mountain bike you should buy the 540 cause the triban 100 is to ligth to be used as a mountain bike and on the long term it will break... Moreover the 540 as better components that will be usefull on rough terrain . Maybe you should start with the 540 and then buy an extra pair of wheels with road tires on it and just swich accoarding to your mood ;) have a good ride

Hi ! I would say it depend the category you classify this bike ! But as a "road bike" it is really upright ( you can reverse the stem to be even more upright) Yeat it is more agressive than a normal mountain bike or city bike.

Hi again ! No problem ! I'm 180 centimeters which is probably 5,9 feet (accoarding to google) In this video I'm riding a Large size. Accoarding to me you can take a medium size up to 177(5,8 feet). , If you r between 2 sizes there is no right or wrong choice it's your feeling on the bike. Me, I like having an upright position so I took the large size; you can then change the stem to adapt your position.

It depends on your level but I found quite hard to climb with this one, It's heavy for a road bike ( 11,300 Kg) If you have a long trip to do or if you add weight on this bike you'll see it's hard to climb especially offroad. Anyway you can climb but on short distance

Trails on Wheels what about the ratios? I might like a single ring more if there was a bigger sprocket. And the shifter I don’t like at all. Re the QR, am not much of a mechanic, is that a modification one can make?

@@DHTCF i understand your point but the bike was built for short trip or as a commuter and to discover the sport so the ratio is ok for that . Well yeah the shifter is anoying right ahah^^ . For the rear weell there is nothing you can do exept changing your weelset because the frame accept QR for sure. You can find second hand pair for few amount of money but be carefull to take a cassette with it. I guess they did not use QR to prevent from steal...

Puctures are just about tires, as i know it has quite good b'twin tires and i think that b'twin makes rather heavier more durable tires with more rubber so i think it should be quite pucture resistant. I see it has B’Twin Sport 700x32C (590 g) so these tires are really havy for 32 mm width, it must be strong with a lot of rubber. You must have had a bad luck and hit something sharp or just had too low pressure and rim puctured it.
