Thoughts and general overview of the Decathlon Triban RC120 road bike.
I previously owned a B'Twin Triban 300, and that was a great bike, it took me on both UK and European cycling adventures, along roads and dirt trails, and I'm hoping the RC120 will do the same.
The bike weighs 11.52kg on my scales, that's with lights, bottle holders and SPD-SL pedals fitted.
Microshift shifters
8 speed cassette
28c tyres
Disc brakes
Versatile frame with threads for panniers and mudguards.

I'm 5'10''/178cm and went for the small frame size. By Decathlons size chart I should be a medium, but I always found the reach a little long on my B'Twin Triban 300 which was a medium. I ordered online without sitting on the bike as decathlon at the moment have almost no bikes in store due to demand, but try and get a test ride/fit before ordering if you can.

If you have the option, maybe running a wider tyre at a lower pressure to increase comfort. There is a chart online where you put your weight in and tyre sizes and in shows the ideal tyre pressure. For instance you can run a 32mm at a lower pressure than a 28mm and still achieve the same rolling resistance

Hey everyone, i bought this bike as my first roadbike ever. I had a low budget but decided to go for the rc120. I've been riding at least 1000km for the moment and I'm very very happy ! Saddle is confy, groupset is really good, disk brakes do the job. There's nothing else I can say. I recommend this bike for beginners and people who want to improve in road cycing. I rode a budget hard tail for 3 years. Every single weekend, all types of terrain, from 25km up to 150. Before blowing my money on a carbon road bike, I got this on sale for 450 Euros. There's no better feeling than a spandex lover on his 9 grand carbon road bike cursing and getting angry after being overtaken by a dude in jeans and Vans on a cheap Decathlon bike.
@IIISentorIII

Thats because the "spandex lover" just did a expert 120km 8h road ride from Grimselpass loop from Göschenen 3,790 m up and down again and on the last 5km home on a flat surface you saw him and showed him who is faster on your 12km ride. ;) Trust me I know. Sometimes I Inlineskate 110km all the way to the *rhine falls* against a constant and steady wind and when I reach the town there some people show me how fast they are on the Skate and I'm like:"dude you have no idea" and smile :P

Amazing bicycle at this price point. I just ordered one. I do own some other, more expensive Road bikes with more gears, more sophisticated shifters and light weight, but I intent to use this bike as a daily commuter to work, to drive my daughter in in a child seat, and to do some off road riding too. That is why I ordered 35mm Cyclocross tyres and I plan to put 46 30 Crankset on it because I think that for offroad rides, 50 34 is a bit too much and not enought when attacking really steep climbs with 15, 20 or more %. So with additional upgrades with tyres and Crankset, it is possible to get very versatile, sturdy, reliable, easy to maintain and inexpensive bike that costs all together arround 600e. A real workhorse. Can't wait until arrives....

The frame is the one that was in use for most of the BTwin range - from the Triban 100 up - until the rebrand in about 2020. It is an excellent frame and rides very well. Although the new frame is touted as being lighter, the actual difference is only 80 grammes - about 3 ounces - a negligible benefit unless you happen to be a fanatical weight weenie. By the way, I bought a BTwin 100 and immediately got the weight down to 10.8kg, including pedals, by changing the gravel style tyres supplied - which weighed a massive 1,600g the pair - for a pair of road tyres at 300g each. Incidentally, as a long time 'brifter' user I must now confess to having become a fan of the AO 50 changer, to the point where I actually now prefer it. It is very precise and is much quicker for multiple changes. I was also sceptical about the Tourney rear derailleur, but that has performed very well and has been trouble free over nearly 4,000 km. Decathlon offers a range of great value bikes, and only bike snobs will tell you otherwise.

I read it is the second version with improved handlebar and rear wheel twisters instead of bolts. ps I bought the M size, I was exactly between M and S. I lilke the comfort. This bike is a steal for 260 euro. And nice looking too with the silver and black. I thought the tires might be a bit to broad but no problem. I personally like the retro shifter on the handlebar. This might be a problem for someone used to brakeshifters. But it works very smooth actually. I only see great reviews of the rc100 and i can agree with that, especially for the price.

@@jackcarpenters3759 Couple questions as someone weighing between the RC100 and RC120: Would you say the 100 weighs less than the 120? I don't know much about how things work, but is the 100's gearing make it slower in the straightaway? I typically don't do hills and only care about distance and top speed - it's why I gave up my hybrid bike pretty quickly
@jackcarpenters3759
@jackcarpenters3759 3 жыл бұрын
@@atticus6572 I read a review of someone who used the rc100 for triathlon training and he said he usually ride in the highest gear 7th. He did like the bike. Personally i don't get further than 5th gear usually which is approx 35km/h. 7th is for 45km/h and faster. I ride only flats too. The rc120 has a little bit higher topgear then the rc100. (11 vs 12 sprocket) The RC100 weighs 11,3 kg. RC120 weighs 10,9. So if you are really a fast top speed guy, i guess the 120 is better. The 120 has microshifters instead of retro. and carbon frok instead of steal. I guess that is where the double price comes from.

The RC100's shifter(1x7 speed) is on the middle of the handlebar while the RC120's shifters(2x8 speed) are on the brake levers. Some people have said shifting at high speed on the RC100 takes a bit of courage/experience.

How do you feel about the 8-speed 11-34 cassette? Are the gear ratios too far apart?
@51North
@51North 2 жыл бұрын
It wasn't even that long ago Tour de France bikes had 8 speed cassettes, for most people this gearing isn't what is slowing them down. For certain riding I actually prefer 8 speed as you get a more meaningful change in ratios for each gear change.

@51North
@51North Жыл бұрын
The difference between disc and non-disc isn't really that much, especially since these are on the budget end of disc setups. If you are in the UK were commuting usually means lots of riding in the rain the disc might give a bit more piece of mind when someone pulls out on you. Discs are great on trails where rims brakes will be grinding mud and dirt, discs will remain pretty clean and not much loss in stopping power. In dry and non muddy conditions there isn't otherwise much in it.

The expensive bike would be lighter, and you'd feel the difference when riding out of the saddle, but all round the difference wouldn't be that much, also expensive bikes increasingly have diminishing returns, i.e. Spending more and more for smaller gains, the best road bikes are in the region of £1000 IMO.
