Wally vee; At least believing they hold a portal to another world would be a biased conclusion, but based on a tangible experience. I mean, here, at the civilized world there’s lots of people that believes that breaking mirrors bring bad luck, just like dropping salt, walking below stairs, seeing black cats, etc. Not to count other forms of misticism like horoscopes, charms of all kinds, homeopathy.. I mean, if you thought we where any better, then ask yourself how there’s hundreds of thousands of religions and sects whose believers “are absolutely sure” they/r God/s are the only real one/s and all others are fake. Each single one of this behaviors are based on “evidence” which is impossible to connect with anything, therefore is, by far, more ignorant than the mirrors being portals.

This reminds me of a tale I learned when I was young in a book. A boy's father died when he was young. He grows up and finds a mirror in his field. He looks at it and sees his father. He thinks that his father is stuck there. He keeps it in a pot and talks and looks at it every day. His wife grew suspicious of what he was doing, so she spied on him. When he was gone for a while, she looked at the mirror and saw a beautiful woman and starts thinking he is having an affair. She proceeds to break the mirror and sees that the woman is gone, she is satisfied. The man comes home and sees that the father is gone and is angry. I forgot some other parts.
