This is hilarious! At first I got disgusted and quit watching after less than a minute. Then, at a friend's urging I watched the rest. These techniques sure knocked me down to the floor, ...laughing! Loved the parts where he eats punches and then says, " I told you not to hit me." Yep, that always works in a fight!

Trapping works but it works only when your inside the gate or outside the gate. Being inside the gate mean you are all ready pass punching range. Outside the gate is when you ABD. Attack by drawing. Meaning your setting up your opponent to be trap. Just trying to trap can get your teeth knockout. Last trying to trap a jab especially a good jab is hard.

Trapping really works. I remember I saw one fight between two drunk men, they used this technique a lot, very naturally, almost like taichi push hands. When drunk or broken, it's not easy to move fast like a fencer and trapping hands come into play.

This was hilarious, showing reality of wing chun like techniques. "He must not punch." Every wing chun/mcdojo dream when training and in a fight. I should remember next time that I should twist tie my opponents arms, especially when they pause and retracting and keep stiff legs.

You are absolutely right. This video is so awful, it's actually funny to watch. Real Wing Chun (and JKD) was supposed to be simple, aggressive and alive. Not complex and defensive and useless. Some guys like Alan Orr are trying to keep that practical approach alive today. I'm trying to do the same. Kind of a tough row to hoe. Easier for most folks to just get a good MMA coach. That's what I would do, but I'm old as F**** (almost 68), so I just try to get the most out of what I know.

Mr.Thomas,may i ask a question? this video shows the skill of wing chun but in the modern time,is it still useful ? i am a Chinese,i live in taiwan ROC. when i was a child,i fight with my classmate,or i see any street fight news on tv now,i dont think when anyone fight another man, he just use one hand, the other hand is gone. When i use the wing chun trapping skill (封手),maybe i am already punched by opponents another hand,why dont i just push off back half-beat then counter by lead or rear punch? i think it is more useful than trapping skill, evenmore, i shuffle back then kick a sidekick is better tnan trapping. i dont know am i right or wrong?

master Bruce lee was gone suddenly. maybe his whole or all system didn't established well. what we saw the jkd is a period condition, the condition is changed, whatever period or after one ,that were all part of Bruce Lee's martial arts. Because any period student taught by Bruce lee, all are his student, right? we all like jkds martial art and respect Bruce, don't mind the period change, the reason is that mater Bruce was gone too fast and suddenly. let Bruce R.IP. maybe is the best way.

Wow, this is really funny! A different kind of video. You're so really serious while doing your „super advanced” stuff. Showing over complicated techniques with a static stance. Wow... So unpractical, without common sense and far from any logic, that must be good. You even show the signiture moves of some of your beloved friends and followers, really honoring there advancement. Never forget the non-existent footwork, the straight static stances and all sorts of flapping, slapping trapping techniques with unefficient locks, pulls and throws. According to the motto: If it is not executed in at least one combination of three, it is not good enough. You are so wise „Sifu Thomas”. Personally don't judge you for your little failures while full speed. It is indeed often the student who does not do exactly what you say (what an embarrassment). Or at least like Bruce say, that you need to practice it at least 10.000 times. But let's forget, what he said over 50 years ago, you can also find and develop new application drills with new techniques, that works better for you as an individual. I mean you want the art to be evolved from the time Bruce where alive. I'm sure he would do exactly the same thing. LOL and Cheers! 🥴

Hello Sifu Thomas.I was taught the Jun Fan trapping skills series and to use them you must have footwork to enter and trap and hit fast and have follow up strikes by kickboxing and locks and taledown.Most of my students will trap and hit before you can launch an attack.Trapping is useful at close range.
@ThomasMarxJKD
@ThomasMarxJKD Жыл бұрын
Sounds jkd concepts.
@dennislauk
@dennislauk Жыл бұрын
Have you ever seen Thomas launching an attack in other videos. There is not much room for a save trapping reaction. Or in other words, what sounds more effective? Try to utilize a pak or lop sao trap and than punch with a limited body weight-strength relation because of your body posture even with footwork (and with a more open stance when trapping with both hands), or to evade or parry the opponents attack and then counter or even more ideal attack at the same time or just before the opponents attack catch you with all weight and body mechanical power you got on (and more non-telegraphed) ? If you or your students are experienced in trapping than maybe you can utilize it in specific situations. But against armed and multiple opponents or at least someone who want to hurt you bad there is something different that offers a great danger. Strive for the most logical way. Pay attention to the principles called simplicity, directness and efficiency and do not try to overwhelm yourself by doing unnecessary things.

This is so funny. I remember when Taki Kimura and Andy Kimura came to my city to teach a seminar, Andy taught the double trap. You punch, he blocks, you trap the first barrier, you punch, he blocks with second hand, you trap the second barrier, you finally hit. Andy was like, that used to be a secret technique that Bruce kept to himself for a long time in Seattle. In my mind I was like no way...until he got his ass kicked right? To this day, I sometimes wonder if there was a trick or circumstance to get it to work. Haha

@@axelstone3131 he had to have some feedback sparring Americans which were taller and stronger. It's more difficult to pull trapping on those types of people. Jesse Glover may have still taught trapping in his non classical kungfu as a legitimate strategy. Same with Bob Bremer. But these people are super big and strong and could get away with alot more fancy stuff. Everyone else only teach it for historical purpose/flashy stuff to pay the bills. Also, Bruce may have lost or at least struggled against Wong Jack Man, which pushed him towards adding boxing and fencing.
@axelstone3131
@axelstone3131 Жыл бұрын
@@Simon2k17 Bruce only had trouble with Jack man because he was unfit and the guy wasn’t willing to actually fight him. He went there thinking it was going to be a friendly exchange, which it wasn’t. That whole Wong Jack man event has been blown out of proportion. Only two years before that Bruce fought a Japanese karate/judo black belt at a YMCA in Seattle, beat him in 11 seconds and fractured the guys skull. I really don’t think Wong was a problem for Bruce. It was the location it took place in and the circumstances that caused it to go the way it did “In Bruce Lee: A Life by Matthew Polly, who shares a few insights from his extensive research and interview process, he says that according to David Chin, who arranged the match on Wong's behalf, Lee overwhelmed Wong with his opening series of attacks as Wong was approaching for the customary salute, causing Wong to turn his back and run. Lee chased him around the room until Wong tripped and fell. Lee jumped on top of Wong and rained down punches, forcing Chin to intervene and rescue Wong. Wong later expressed regret over fighting Lee, attributing it to arrogance, both on the part of Lee and himself.”

. . . because if you research, Dan Inosanto said he was not comfortable with the kicks Bruce Lee showed him. With his former training in Kempo, he was more comfortable with his hands. Him tearing up 🥺 & admitting on KZbin that he couldn't do what Bruce Lee did, admitting he was uncomforable with Bruce's JKD kicks, plus video showing how bad he sucked at the side kick next to Ted Wong and other JKD students, is plenty of evidence to show why he diluted and turned Bruce's art into inefficient crap. Hope that helps clear things up as to why he sucks 🙂.

@@dennislauk that's a good question. I assume because he was the most experienced student Bruce had in JKD at the time, he learned the curriculum & because he taught when Bruce was away.
