The speciality of Gavaskar which people less mention was on and off field charisma. Gavaskar with his sharp expressive features, a swagger and excellent communication skill was a greater joy to watch on field and even off the field he was a superb orator.

Quite right, but lets not forget the institution Sunny learned from, the great Vijay Merchant, the founder of the Bombay school of batsmanship, 'never give your wicket away'. Merchant in First Class cricket made over 13,000 runs averaging 71. Had he played more Tests he might have outshone even the great Sunny. But this is not to denigrate Sunny in any way - he is my idol - merely to point out that Merchant Sahab laid the foundation for all great Indian batsmen.

To think of 10,000 runs in that era was a dream and if you were an Indian it was an "impossible" dream. But that's what legends do, isn't it? They make the impossible, possible.

Sunny Gavaskar is one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game. He is the greatest test opener in the history of the game. His batting exploits against the legendary West Indies comprising the four horsemen i.e. Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts and Joel Garner is remarkable. They were menacing and accurate. Given the fact that he played without a helmet. And at a time when there were no restrictions on bouncers. Hats off, Sunny G. 🇮🇳

20 centuries in his first 50 Tests, second only to Bradman. The best batsman Viv Richards says he ever saw, and no wonder, for Sunny made 13 centuries in 27 Tests against the West Indies.

Viv never said he was best he saw he always rate Lawrence Rowe as greatest he saw and best batsman he played again were Ian Chappell & Javed Miandad.. Obviously thay excludes Viv who was best batsman of his era by some mile.

As for as I concerned, he is one of the greatest batsman of all time. Reson not for wearing helment against furious West I ndian pace bowlers. Still, I remember he well left the ball during Benson & Hedges against I think against Australia tall left hander fast bowler under his nose. What I am trying to say , Sir's judgement of a delivery....

It's lengthy but need it to know u people. Test cricket is real cricket. If we keep Sir Don out of the context, then Sir Garfield sobers , Sunil Gavskar and LARA are the best batsmen in the Test. The innings these guys played against quality bowling attack and under pressure which Sachin never played. Sachin never played under pressure. Sachin never win matches in Test. His second inning run chase Avg is very very poor which shows he is not mentally tough and Gutsy player like Gavaskar, LARA, Steve Waugh and other Gr8s. No one (great cricketers) have said sachin is all time Gr8 except Few Indian cricketer of Sachin's friends and Team mates. All Gr8s have put Lara above sachin becz the innings Lara played in Test cricket which sachin never played . Sachin can only dream about it. We INDIAN People are just spectator and do not have cricketing knowledge. We just see country cricket and dont follow world cricket. We do not know what happened in the past who played... how they played. Against which bowling attack. We hv zero knowledge of cricket. Can Anybody have seen Sir Garfield sobers batting ( I mean on You tube) ? How he is batting? How he scored runs? His shots? He is natural like Lara. Do you people know he has scored 365 runs ? Hit 6 sixes in an over. Can anybody seen Gavaskar 221 innings at oval 1979 chasing 437 in fourth innings? The match end up with draw with 2 wickets remaining. Sunil Gavaskar was 8th wicket and only few overs remaining to close the fifth day, Do you know he made 14 centaury against west indies killer fast bowling attack MARSHAL HOLDING ROBERS GARNER? Except Sunil Gavaskar No one stood in front of them in that era . Hope we spectator know these west indies bowlers.. Can anybody seen Lara's match winnings 153 against Australia in 4th innings? from 91 for 5 wickets, he did 200 runs partnership wit last 5 players and win the match with one wicket remaining ( Hats off to Walsh for playing 4 balls of Gillespi and gave Lara a chance). One can only dream such a innings. There are many such innings these guys hv played in TEST. All I cannot put here. Go and search on you tube. Go and see them first then I am sure u people will think differently with cricketing mind and not by heart. Show me sachin's a single innings (like these guys played )where he played and win test match in 2nd innings run chase except one against Pakistan 139 which he got out playing a stupid shot when only 15 runs required and 4 wickets in hand. Now Don't say his back was paining. No excuse please. Scoring 100 or 1000 century is not imp but how you scored, in which situation u scored that is imp. Sachin completely failed. Thanks god Lara played in the same era in which sachin played, so we came to know the huge gap between the gr8 lara and sachin. Sachin is light year behind lara. LARA u r GENIUS. Many Many love to the Gr8 LARA from India.

Idk about the rest of your comment, but I agree on Indians having zero knowledge of Cricket. We just lack the nerd culture in general. At best, we try to one-up each other with some obscure fact, which is just cringe, imo.
